Hello,
I was wondering from what you guys have seen so far, which profession would be best for PvP or World vs World vs World?

I'm leaning towards making a necromancer but this might change stuff.

Please provide reasons for your choice.

Thank you!
MAlandM

Edit: Another question then, which ranged classes are good at crowd clearing, at a range? My initial instincts would lead to either Necro or elementalist. What do you guys think? And why?

Imho there's no best class, but best team configuration tbh.

All classes are pretty balanced and need eachother on the field.

I think there is no ''best'' profession for pvp, it really depends on the role/style you wish to play.
As a dps junkie, I would prefer thief for structured pvp and elementalist for WvW.
I reckon thief really shines in 1vs1 combat, while elementalist excels in aoe damage.

There is no such thing as a best profession.

No offense mate but you kinda fail.

You want to roll a Necromancer. But if we all say Warrior is the best class hands down you would roll a warrior.

Weak move bro.

To answer your question all classes are nice. Melee does the most dmg tho.

Its a game all about teamwork. A team of all 8 professions will always stomp a team of 8 players all using the same profession.

Sorry... Just really, really excited! And I first saw a GW2 video yesterday!

I was just wondering which class would have good AoE attacks, or good attacks which focus on one enemy, not necessarily which class is "best".

Whatever class has the most aoe (elementalist) for WvWvW, for pvp is much more complex.

Thief will be the go-to class for spike damage on one target due to its burst damage and its various shadow steps.

Can anyone post a good link to an elementalist in WvWvW video, or just an elementalist gameplay video, preferably a skilled one. Just so I can see how the class plays. A thief and a Mesmer and a necromancer would help too along with that.

Thanks!

My name is Dirame, I am a class in GW2 and I am the most OP class. I kill dragons in one hit and I waste players just by looking at them. Also I am a pony.... with a unicorn horn..... and I barf rainbows.

EDIT: On topic; If you want to ask about a class just ask about what you like guys, don't ask what is the most powerful class 'cos that's just a load of horse poop.

Right, now may I ask what profession you are? I think I might go for your class. :surprised:

Why are some people obsessed with "best class" or best this or best that?
Play the class that suits YOU the most, cause in the end you'll have more fun playing that character than you would playing a profession you just play cause u think its the best.

Youtube is your friend. As is the search function on this website.

Also, every profession can AoE, and every profession can pick off single targets. It all depends on the weapon you're using. I'd suggest you go read up on the game-mechanics carefully. It would answer a lot of your questions.

We've got separate threads for that kind of discussions.

Finally, a helpful response. Thanks!

Didn't know Guild Wars 2 would attract such annoying gamers... Such a shame, a good game, but a mixed community.

Edit: I have been looking for the game mechanics. But failed in searching. That's why I came to these forums in the hope to gain more knowledge. Little did I know how some people would respond. Could you ever so kindly tell me where I could expand my knowledge on this game?

Here or here. You can find everything you need to know.

And look, I'm not trying to be mean, but imagine if everyone constantly asked for specific videos, instead of using 5 minutes to search for themselves. We already get a lot of threads that can be answered within 2 minutes on google. I'm all for asking questions, and answering as well, but I just dislike the fact, that people tend to ask here before even attempting to figure it out themselves. This doesn't necessarily apply to you, but I'm just saying.

Also, I did answer your previous question about AoE attacks. Like, say, a Ranger or a Warrior with a Longbow has got a lot of AoE attacks, while an Elementalist with Daggers, have got fewer AoE attacks. All this would be fairly clear, if you were familiar with the core mechanics.

You guys have really been spoon fed this equality cake.

Ranged classes that have non laughable ranged dmg will dominate WvW. Yes teamwork matters, but team work between those ranged classes will be more potent. Don't believe me? Wait till the first set of ranged nerfs, or melee buff's comes around. ( Well already happening in beta)

Judging from OP's question, i can tell you that you will be a horrible Necro since that class is heavily based on dot's, skill combinations, and controlling the flow of a fight. It has potential to be a really strong class but will mostly be a bunch of huntards. So you might stay alive longer then an ele, but you'll do shit dmg since you seem to be more about one button win all pvp.

Structured PVP will be dominated by guardians for support, guardians will break or make a 5 team that plays together.

Just role a Warrior with axes, you'll do big crits, and you'll simply have to mash one button when it tell's you its ready.

A weapon is only as good as the person wielding it.

The 'best' class, for you, will be the class you understand/ appreciate the most.

I've seen plenty of 'weak' classes in many MMO's do considerably better than the 'strong' classes, considering the fact that said 'weak' classes were in the hands of players that were both skilled and dedicated to that class.

GW2 *should* be more balanced than said MMO's. That being said, naturally, certain professions will be better at certain things, that's not to say though that certain classes, whether or not they were designed to be the 'best' in certain aspects, in the hands of 'skilled' players, will be capable of being.

GW2 will attract all types of gamers just like any other MMOs - so please don't generalize. Also, people are being "annoying" (as you said), because of the thread title.

No one likes "please tell me what the best pvp class is!! plsss!" type of threads. It's stupid. But you found the thread you needed to choose your profession, good luck.

There are tons of useful posts in the Vigil Academy and many questions that might come to you, answered in the Question & Answers thread, so take your time to go through them. After that if you have any specific unanswered questions please post them in the Questions & Answersthread.

For those of us who have been following the game it is easy to know all the mechanics, professions, etc but to someone who watched their first video yesterday...c'mon guys. There's a huge amount of info out there with a large portion of that being old and outdated. Just tell him what he needs to know.

Anyway there is no best profession for PvP believe it or not. Sure everyone says this on every MMO and then it turns out that the ranger or assassin class dominates but in this case everyone is pretty much equal. Just play the theme you want.

Well, imagine how we feel (i.e., the people who've been here a while). I'm not trying to be mean, but seriously, if you -- or, more accurately, people who ask questions like this -- would just take the time to look at some of the information that's readily available, 99% of your questions would be answered. Browse Guru, browse the wiki, browse the official site, browse YouTube, check out the buildmaking tools, etc. It's annoying to deal with people who want to be spoon-fed information on demand.

^ And that about sums it about. It'll depend primarily on how an individual player plays, regardless of his/her class.

Ok! Ok! I'm sorry! I didn't realise my mistakes at first... I have already apologised.

I just did 3 personality quizzes by the way and I got a Necromancer, necromancer and elementalist (although for the other two, elementalist was 33% and 17%). Thief came second, followed by guardian.

I think I'm gonna enjoy Necromancer, as long as it has AoE skills and in PvE, my pets can do all the bidding for me.

Sorry again! :qq:
