Hi again to all the thief-enthusiasts here. I noticed that many posters, myself included, have made mention that they will be creating some videos using footage from the BWE this weekend.

Now, I know that typically comments about community works would go in the...well...community works section, but the format of that section doesn't lend itself too well to what I am proposing.

I'd like to request all who are planning on filming some gameplay footage of the thief post right now on what things they will be covering.

What weapon sets, game mode (sPvP, WvW, PvE, etc) and other relevant details will you be showing off?

I mainly ask because this way we can easily identify areas of the thief where others may not be covering, and in that sense we can have a broad area of aspects to cover (somewhat avoiding the pitfall of only getting dagger/dagger thief footage and nothing else...a thousand videos of all roughly the same build, style, and gameplay.)

Currently, the video that I am planning that involves the thief is mainly going to be edited and commentated footage of dagger/pistol (likely pistol/dagger secondary) inside structured PvP, but I'm certainly open to spreading out away from that, should I see an area that not many people are covering.

I will be making a simple PvP montage over the weekend (all I have time for with finals the following weekend) and also take lots of footage for some commentaries, like things from my "analysis" that I wanted to touch base on. I will most likely be playing with (dagger/dagger or dagger sword)+(dagger/pistol or pistol pistol). I'm spending the whole weekend in structured PvP and don't plan on doing anything else.

I won't be making any videos but i'll try my best to test out every skill available to the thief. I also have about four builds made for the thief so anything note worthy will be posted here.

I'm planning something similar aside from my videos. Things like steal-able items/skills, especially, I'll likely gather information and update the wiki, but not make a whole video on it.

some of my videos will be with a friend of mine some of them won't be

I will be playing in PvE and PvP with P/P, Shortbow, P/D, and S/D

Not a fan of s/p and d/p but I might test them out as well

I'll be running catacombs as much a possible as well with a "support" build to see how it plays and if certain traits work together (Venomous Aura and Leeching Venoms as an example like this http://www.gw2builds...ng_aura_support)

Thanks verrda, that actually sounds like something fairly unique (just in the way that I haven't heard as many people talk about trying support thief, especially running catacombs with it).

I don't have a video recording program so I don't see how.

Otherwise I have a pretty decent set up with being able to run the maximum graphic settings. I can run a stream though and record videos that way. So maybe.

If you have a second hard drive, Fraps is easy to acquire....Google is cool.

Not even fraps is required

the xfire client has a recorder, that MIGHT work

Personally I'll be using Fraps so I can also record commentary with a keybind

Right, I was just giving an example (and probably the most popular). Live comms are hard for me. I always end up going off track or accidentally raging a little bit lol

I'm planning record around 40 hours of thief's gameplay.
Probably a lot of sword/dagger, in every situation, PvP, WvWvW and leveling.

I don't have any plans on recording footage, but I do plan on looking into steal's usage in PvP. I want to see what can actually be obtained in sPvP, and determine if the stolen skills are actually worthy of a class mechanic.

This means, I will be attempting to create a list or table of all possible stolen items from each profession, and giving a detailed evaluation on each skill.

I'm planning to record some stuff.

S/D, S/P and P/P builds (I'm tired of so many D/D videos...), and I want to proof that with S/P (unless they changed stuff) you will only use 1, 2 and 4.

No damage oriented PVP to test the viability of a capper/distracter Thief in PVP.

Story mode, events and map cleaning to test how the Thief fights against PVE mobs.

I'm plannig to take some time editing the videos and try to make them "tutorials" to understand the profession.

Oh, and annoy people everywhere using Shadow Refugee randomly in non-combat scenarios like cities or the PVP area, I will probably get some friends to test how some stuff like the forms (tornado included) and special effects (like the fiery greatsword) look when stealthed with the blurry transparent effect, just for fun :P

I am going to test my various builds in both PvP and PvE. They include a mobility build, a condition build (shut-down), and a stealth build.

I will also be checking out the traits in the process, and testing to see if shadowstepping can negate fall damage - I will include all my failed attempts too :P

I intend to record the following builds (or something similar):

DP/PD Venom build
SP/SB Support build
SD/SB Mobility build

I will be testing the above in both PvE and PvP (and if I get time WvW). If I find I am limited on time and HD space, I will only video Structured PvP.

I don't think "combo crit chance" trait refers to Dual skills, but to the chain-skills in number 1...

sadly i won't make any video, due to not having here with me my loyal gaming mouse: i'm too used to mouse key binding, and i surely don't want to re-learn how to keybord keybind, and even if i re-learn it, i would probably be forced to click on U-skills.

And i really don't want to make video of myself while clicking >_> ( lol pretty childish).

But i'll make a list of stelable items in PvP, and if those items are not worth ( as they are now) their freaking 45 secs CD, don't worry, we'll meet up in beta forums and scream it to the devs :D

Initial Strike
1-slot skills have a chance to restore initiative.


It's what leads me to believe that Combo Crit Chance on the other hand refers to the 3rd skill you have, which is a combination of your main and off-hand weapon.

We'll really have to wait and see, few more days to go.

That is correct, Combo skills are referred to as the #3 skill slots.
the #1 skills are Chain skills not combo skills.

I plan on recording any PvP that I do, as well as testing out the following builds.

PvE wise, I'll be doing a write up of the thief which will touch on Stealing for ranged and melee, initiative system and how does this fare against the CD system.


No doubt the Vids will show everyone how to get your arse handed to you as a thief but hopefully my experience of this archetype will pull through.

Key points i plan to actually note are:
Haste duration on Trait: Hard to Catch
Values on Trait: Leeching Venom
Vigor duration on Trait: Vigorous Recovery
Cripple Duration on Trait: Ankle Shots
the feel of each weapon and how they were useful.


One of my main goals will be to finally decide which profession i want to take, Thief or Mesmer.

I'll be playing my Thief and doing short, 10-15 minute length videos. If anyone has any requests, I'll attempt to fill them.

Currently:

P/P High Initiative Crit Build
- See how well Signet of Malice Works with Unload / If it will proc at all
- See the benefit of Lead Attacks with 15 Initiative
- Determine if I can keep 10+ Initiative at all times
- See if Signet of Malice + Signet Use will regain Initiative -- or if the passive does, as well ( OP as hell concept )
S/D Stealth-Spam / High Burst
- Stealth. Always need to test this.
- Seems gimmicky, but I'll try it anyway.
P/P Condition Thief
- Conditions are very powerful on a thief
- Lacks survivability
- See if Basilisk Venom benefits from Venom traits
- Going to see if the various dodge / evade / roll traits trigger off of one another [ Such as Withdraw + Uncatchable ]

For the record, Signet of Malice does heal for every hit you make. There's only 1 thief video in the entire interwebz that has a thief using one and he uses unload once in a while which heals him per hit. I'm not gonna bother finding it again but it's out there. :P

No idea if it triggers other effects though.

Hmm. Interesting. I'll see if it's a viable tactic to survive with, then. Do you remember how much it heals?

And Sylvari are not included.

I also want to document as many weapons gained from steal as I can. Starting with all the professions and weapons. Anyone want to help me by being a cooperative enemy to steal from?

Ok I found it for you anyway. :P


It always healed 152 per hit (healed less when he reached full health) so I'm not sure how it scales. The healing probably just scales to your level to avoid a bunch of complex calculations. That's how I'd do it if I were them anyway. It's possible that it heals different amounts for different weapons though.

Thanks! I appreciate it. If it's 152 per hit and you can really let loose on Unload a few times, you might be able to self-heal through some rather nasty burst.

Do you know if, when Signet of Malice is on cooldown, you lose the passive heal?

Edit: Also, how slow he runs makes me realize the need for Swiftness.
