My experience with Petrified Forest was very good. The only thing that was a shame is being on an overflow server so many times as the server was clearly full. Then again I'd expect this to be a temporary problem that becomes less after the first weeks of launch.

Actually, I think the overflow areas are actually on the same server, it's just a second copy of the same zone.  All the people around you are also from your original server if I'm not mistaken.

Regardless, I'm confident that ANet will get the overflow stuff sorted in the next BWE.  It was a complaint that was near-universal that it was hard to manage to play with your friends.

Considering most RP happens PvE side, you will be able to guest to either servers anyhow.

Tarnished Coast. There's so many bad ERP puns waiting to happen there. Petrified Forest, of course, is no better. If I'm lucky, I'll see you all there this weekend.

Just want to give this topic a bump here as we go into the next BWE, as our Guild Wars 2 Roleplayers community has elected to stay with Tarnished Coast [NA] and Petrified Forest [EU] through this beta weekend as well.

As an update, since Tarnished Coast (North America) is full for the immediate moment, we're using The Wilds for a temporary overflow server until transfers open back up.  

UPDATE - Same situation for Petrified Forest, so Lakeside County is now our temporary overflow for the EU.

We're encouraging everyone to migrate to TC/PF as soon as it's available!

I've been rather disappointed with Petrified Forest so far...

Last BWE I played on Whiteside Ridge. After reading that the RP-community decided to go to (the much worse named) Petrified Forest, I transfered for this BWE. I was a bit surprised that there didn't seem like any difference. There were at least as many badly named characters, the community didn't seem nicer and friendlier, there was no RP going on (not that I expected any in a BWE).

The big difference I noticed was the huge change in WvW. On Petrified Forest, I felt alone when doing WvW, and the server owned literally nothing in the Mists at all.

I'm looking for two things for my choice of server. First of all I want to be part of a friendly community where I can participate in casual RP and with a higher percentage of mature players with well-named characters. Secondly I want to be part of a server that does recently well in WvW, or at least where there are some decent interest and participation.

As of now, Petrified Forest doesn't seem to offer any of these. Or do I just need to be more patient?

Apparently I should have been. Good fighting today in WvW. My experience today compared to earlier has been night and day.

Wish I could get better framerate during the big WvW-battles though. Could barely see anything.

Petrified Forest did awesome in WvW today. Sure we couldn't beat Whiteside Ridge but that is basically the biggest and baddest server in europe being the official Reddit server and all it has some huge communities. But the fights today where amazing and it was so much fun to group up with roleplayers and take their keeps against all odds.

The big problem this BWE was that for Petrified Forest the matching system didn't work, forcing us to stay in a completely unbalanced group the entire weekend. When they can get the matching system working again and Petrified Forest is matched up with some servers of its own size you'll see the fun in WvW increase a lot.

As far as RP is concerned there have already been a bunch of RP events on Petrified Server including meet ups in Lion's Arch, a player run tavern and a major RP-PVP event. I've seen roleplayers everywhere, seen a lot of talk about RP in map chat and even seen some random RP. There are hundreds of roleplayers from WoW, SWTOR, LOTRO and other games that found their way to Petrified Forest but many are now enjoying the game and trying out classes so you won't yet see the busy RP hotspots yet like you see in older games. I'm sure after release you will see a lot more of that though.

If you do want to RP in the BWE, the best way is to either check www.gw2rp.com for events or just RP against people, you will see a lot of people RP back even some you don't expect.

We're looking for a home for our RP/WvW guild, but we have a lot of guild members concerned about Tarnished Coast being too full and resulting in queues. I heard somewhere that The Wilds may also end up having an RP bent. Anything to that?

My sad story filled with QQ...

I left the TC server to play with my brother on another, emptier server (I was on first BWE and he had a late start, getting on by the second BWE when TC was full). Well...that was a stupid mistake on my part, and I don't know what I was thinking (wasn't obviously), because we had a little fun for 2 hours (btw he got me into gw1 in 2006 before going to the "dark side") but he stopped playing to get back to his WoW raids that weekend >.<  Never came back during the weekend either.

So I gave up a great server with lot's of good peeps (including my guild that I talked into going there in the first place) to involve my only brother and now I'm stuck on an empty server. I sure hope that TC opens a bit so I can get back in there, or at least find another dedicated RP one, and I'll stalk this thread to find it. I am not an RPer, but I like being around RP and am respectful to the immersion and am a good part of the setting in my own way. Seems like better folk to be around.

Moral of the story? Never leave a good server for a jerk family member. And please let me back in...it's so lonely over here.

The core members of my GW1 guild picked Tarnished Coast for the BWE's without realizing that is was the unofficial RP server. A few of us enjoy casual pvp and were concerned with how well an RP server would do in WvW. From what we saw in the last BWE, Tarnished Coast did okay. I'm now trying to get the rest of the guild to pick Tarnished Coast at launch. I enjoy the occasional RP and if TC can do well at WvW (and we can help), I'd like to stay and try out some RP

There seems to be a decent amount of PvPers on TC (me included), and they're putting together a WvW alliance; go to guildwars2roleplayers.com and it's in their boards.

AION's unofficial RP server was the strongest in terms of PvP and balance, a lot of us liked to go out and PvP and seige because it's fun roleplaying the lead up to, and the aftermath of, battles. Even Moonguard on WoW (don't laugh!) had some decent PvPs, with city raids going on regularly, very active tol barad, and a few decently-ranked pvp guilds (at the time).

So if y'all like RP and PvP, there's no reason not to come along. A very strong guild would certainly have a good influence in WvW.

And TC absolutely dominated in WvW last BWE. I don't know how it will be after launch (it's been officially picked as the launch server), since some guilds will likely leave for a non-RP server.

I can't say that I've seen anyone scolded for talking OOCly in any public channel thus far.

I'm looking for advice. I want to get into RP but not as a full time activity. I'm leaning towards playing  WvW (for the long term) and PvE. So I would probably prefer to be on a server that's competitive. My question is will I be able to "guest" on the RP servers without a problem?

Not really, my guild has a rule that most of our interactions are IC, but we don't scold people for talking OOCly as long as they mark stuff with a parentheses But that's how we roll.

If you'll roll on Petrified Forest or Tarnished coast you'll quickly learn that these servers are very competitive in both PvP and PVE.

As far as we know, Piken Square has been chosen this BWE. As they release the official server list closer to launch, there will be a poll to decide which server will be the RP one.

I was also wondering this, since the server will be present at launch. I'd like to know so I can conduct my friends there. :3 Looking forward to RPing with everyone. This game is perfect for Adventure based RP, I'm very very excited.

Yes, Tarnished Coast is still the North American RP destination.  And Stormbluff Isle is our overflow.

Super late quote, but I'm answering anyways. OOC chatter is totally fine. Unless you're rping with us, there is little reason to be "ic" anyways. In-fact most role-players will undoubtedly be OOC much of the time.

We already took a poll on Guild Wars 2 Roleplayers for the EU server.  They decided to keep the same server as BWE #3 - Piken Square is the final choice.
