I am having the same issue but my computer crashes when i press PLAY

I got an Alienware Aurora R3 8 gigs of Ram Ati video card 8850 crossfire, windows 7 home premium, Intel i7.

I can play any other game like Battlefield on Ultra Settings with no problems, how can i change the resolution before hitting the play button on the launcher?

I am having crashes every hour and a half or so. I was able to play from level 2 to level 3 though so that was fun without crashing :)

uninstalled drivers, rebooted, safe mode, ran driver sweeper, rebooted, safe mode, driver sweeper again, rebooted, safe mode, ccleaners registry fix rebooted into non safe mode, installed 12.8 drivers, still crashes...

GPU temp is at a max of 74c and cpu is a max of 40c, nothing is over clocked. I reduced my GPUs factory overclock to stock clocks for a reference card. still crashes.

Im not an expert but my system have been through a lot, to me it sounds like one of your memory cards might be busted, other thing it could be, if you got a new graphic card or a new mother board there is a chance your source power isnt up to it so you may want to get a new one.

other solution would be to wait, if it has something to do with incompatibility Anet will addressed eventually , though it would still be of help to send a report to then with your system characteristics and stuff.

hope it helps.

I may have an idea, today while i was playing in windows mode, the same freeze occurred having the same problems - looping sound and frozen game- however this time an error report popped up and automatically exited my game, so i think it may be something with my driver an I may have to wait for a future release by amd to correct this issue.

putting on standard clock seems working for me. i only had one crash of game without strange sounds or reset.

btw, with an integrated souns card, the usual realtek bla bla, i put the sound on the lowest quality possible and i think i even gain some fps. could be that, don't know but just for information.

I came up a solution for this problem... I tested this to my system and it works with no crashes.
It seems that, the application is running with no permission or you can set it running as Administrator in Vista/Win 7.

Please follow the steps:

1. Check your GW2 files if it has a Lock Icon.
2. Right click each files and then select "Properties".
3. Choose "Security" tab and click "Add".
4. Type in "Everyone" to make sure every user has access to files.
5. Do the steps 1 - 4 until all files of GW2 has no more Lock Icons.
6. Run the GW2.exe like normal.

Hope this helps.

Are you in Overclock Settings? mine was in Overclock and set it to default and it's not crashing anymore.

Well I have not overclocked anything, so unless my computer has overclock set as default or something then no.

Ok, so installing the beta drivers (304.79) recommended on the Guild Wars 2 launcher and playing the game damaged my video card permanently....!

Like some people here, i started getting game freezes after playing Guild Wars 2. The image would lock up, the sound would begin to stutter and i was unable to ctrl-alt-del or alt-tab out of the game, only option was a hard restart with power button.

This happened 3-4 times and i finally gave up on the game and decided to wait for Guild Wars 2 specific drivers from NVIDIA.

Problem is, i started getting the same lock-ups in other games..Skyrim, Mass Effect 3  etc... witch had never happened before.

I could not play a game for more then 5 minutes before getting a full system freeze, i even bsod once. This shit has never happened on my system..its directly related to the beta drivers and running Guild Wars 2.

First thing i tried was going back the certified Nvidia drivers (301.42) Clean install btw.   Problem still there.
I tried a system restore to before i even installed the game    Problem still there.

So without anymore options, i formatted my system, re-installed everything clean, installed a game and 5 minutes in...computer freezes again.

So now im stuck with a GTX 460 that was loaned to me by a buddy instead of my GTX 580 because i have to ship my card for repairs.
The GTX 460 works with all my games without a hitch witch confirms my GTX 580 is damaged. (im not going to try Guild Wars 2 with it risking a second damaged card...)

My card is still under warranty but shipping and handling fees + pretty much a ruined week-end = major aggravation.

Btw, GPU and CPU are stock clock..

So be carefull guys...

System Specs:

MS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8P67
8.00 GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 808MHz
ASUS GTX580 DirectCU II

So I disabled nvidia 3d vision and turned the audio quality down all the way and now I'm able to play for 2-3 hours without any crashes. I guess I'll just have to wait for them to update the game and fix it themselves, because its only Guild Wars 2 that is the problem.

It maxes out video cards, thats all it does, its no more stressful then your average Furmark run. They card was probably defective when you got it since you say the other one also works with other games.

If you install the 304.xx BETA drivers DO NOT enable FXAA as a 'global' setting.

I got my first ever Nvidia BSOD in Win 7 64-bit when I was d/ling the client; I guess because of a conflict with the downloader.

Because of that I do not recommend it in case of other possible problems.

FXAA in game, is fine.

Been watching this topic for 2 pages, and I have to say: I have the same problems, although with some different .. Scenarios and settings.

First off, I've been using 304.79 on ALL games with no problems, I haven't got my GFX-card saused up by crashing.
Except for GW2... I've crashed 4 times before giving up, first I got a black screen with my sound going "DRRR", the second time my screen didn't go black but the sound still got weird (both needed a hard reboot). AND the third time it happened, I had a BSOD.

Now, for the very weird part. I just tried yesterday to play some, and it worked fine for 30 minutes. Then... My USB-ports suddenly shut off, I couldn't type with my keyboard, move my mouse, and if I plugged them out and then in again they wouldn't receive power.
I then proceeded to push the off-button and do a soft reboot, but after 5 seconds into the soft reboot, LOCK-UP and DRRRRRR from my speakers.

.... Yeah, I've no clue what's happening. This didn't happen in Beta week-event 3 or whatever the number was, point is - somewhere along the lines they screwed up their game biiiiigtime.

Specs:
ASUS p8p67 pro motherboard
8 GB of.. 1333 MHz RAM I believe.
ASUS 560Ti DCUII TOP
i7 2600k OC'd to 3,7 MHz

Funny thing about this set-up is that it works on literally every other game on high/ultra-settings. I'm playing Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, RIFT, everything else - with NO problems, NO stuttering, NO lock-ups and NO BSOD's.
I am clueless. :P

Twice I've had a weird "crash" where my keyboard and mouse stopping working and my character just kept running. All I could do was push the reset button.

Just pointing out that no user-mode application (that's applications like Word, or GuildWars 2, or anything you the user run) can cause your PC to bluescreen or lock up. Such an event has to be caused by a driver. It can be related to an application if the application makes a really inept call into the driver, but it's pretty hard to do.

Very often, such events are the consequence of the combination of one or more things: new game code that Nvidia & AMD haven't seen before (which GW2 obviously is, and which means the drivers aren't optimised for those call paths), buggy drivers, overheating, corrupt VRAM, and a driver kernel-level conflict.

One classic I have had is a conflict between graphics & sound, yielding a nice reliable hang with stuttering sound in games like Crysis, and the solution was to get rid of Nvidia's Audio HD driver (completely, which their uninstall doesn't do). Another time, it was a card instability & only one, maybe two games ever did enough of the right calls & memory usage to cause a hang.

In short - just because game X works fine & GW2 doesn't does not mean you don't have a problem. Consider running a full benchmark test on your card for an hour and see if you can get it to hang or overheat (disclaimer: if your PC build sucks, I am not responsible for said benchmark frying your card - GPUs are supposed to survive these things just fine).

Edit: Also note that beta drivers are just that. You assume responsibility when you install them, no matter what ArenaNet are advertising. They have not gone through WHQL testing.

Ok for those who are still experiencing a Random Freezes in any way. (PvE, PvP, WvW, Transfer to a map, etc.)
I found a solution that will hoping to work for all of us... I've researched some settings that GW2 might be using and found this.

http://www.guildwars...-t10039938.html

Although, GW2 the link above is for GW1... I tested it coz all the forums about direct x says that GW2 was using Direct X 9 and not 11 when it was made. So i tried to put -dx9 after the shortcut and it worked for me... No more crashes and i'm already in Overclocked settings both my CPU and GPU.

Hope this will work for us all.

Can anyone try to confirm this for a GTX 560TI.  I am getting the freezes and crash without an error report and the only thing I can do is a hard resett.

Thanks

I've been watching this topic for a while now hoping for a quick solution of this problem. PC freezes after ca. 5 min of login, blackscreen with no input possible and i am forced to do a hard restart. I updated the drivers of my Nvidia GTX 550 TI (tried 290.10, 301.42 and 304.79 Beta), and other drivers with SlimDrivers, checked my GPU temperature (~50-60C°), reinstalled my GW2 client and Windows 7 (64-bit), made a BIOS update and still have crashes although my PC works just fine with any other game (LoL, The Witcher 2, Sims 3). I didnt have this problem on the Beta weekends though...I think I'm gonna replace my graphic card and see if it works. Did anyone get a satisfactory answer from GW2 support?

No, only the standard automatic response bullshit.
Gonna try the DX9 solution to the guy over you, though.

Same, doesn't do jack for me. I even disabled Windows Media Center like the guy in the link described. Seems like we just have to wait for nVidia to fix their drivers I suppose.
