Hey guys, in the beta, not being able to rotate the camera without the right mouse button was a real pain for a melee character. I tried looking in the options but didn't find a box available for it. Was anyone able to find it, if not, do you think ArenaNet would implement it into the full game?

Yes i would want to know this as well. Even as a caster it's important to be on the lookout when mobs/players are comming at you.

I don't understand what you're after here. You can rclick to turn camera AND character, or lclick to only rotate camera while keeping character in whatever orientation it was in. Really the best of both world, imo. This was one change I was very happy to see implemented into Guild Wars 2. Kudos design team.

I didn't find any problem with the camera with melee. I'm ALWAYS holding down the right click button when I'm playing, because that's how I turn. But I agree with tamzooka, glad it was added into GW2

I meant if the game's able to allow you to rotate the camera without holding onto any of the mouse buttons. An example is a shooter or some hack and slash games, when you rotate the camera, the whole character's body and view is rotated along with it.

but then you would be unable to click on anything...  unless you could toggle it.

Yes, was wondering if this could be added for toggling or not.

I was wondering whether they will enable you to click and turn at the same time. What I mean is, I want to use targetted abilities while holding down the right mouse button. When I'm running away from enemies in a circle or something and want to throw down an area spell behind me I have to let go of the right mouse button (even though I can target more or less correctly). Left mouse button doesn't react anymore.

I played the beta like an FPS, with a and d as strafe.  I also kept my mouse in the center of my screen when using fast aoe targeting.  Felt pretty good imo.  But yea, I had to hold down the right button most of the time and a toggle would be interesting.

Yeah I hate having to keep holding my right button down all the time.
I hope a mouselook toggle is implemented at launch too.

This is not to be confused with a freelook toggle, which is essentially what you get when you hold left mouse down in game currently.

Anyway, there shouldn't be any concerns regarding ground targeted attacks since its a relatively simple thing to make such spells automatically toggle mouselook off.
Even a basic third party addon in WoW had the function built in.

I don't mind holding right mouse button to rotate camera and char, but sometimes camera stucks with right mouse button. What I mean is sometimes when you are turning to left or right with A, D, and then press right mouse button, rotating somehow slows down.

I don`t know will it be implemented in game (i`m kind of used to hold RMB) but there`s alternative do rather expensive, Cyborg MMO 7 mouse, the mouse has lock options for left and right mouse buttons (overall extra nice MMO mouse) but damn expensive as i said !

Did anyone try the unlock feature in the menu for the camera? The way I understood it was that it unlocked it so you could move it freely with the mouse. Unless I read that wrong. It's just an option in the menu to check and un-check. I didn't try it because I like to use the right click camera movement. It's how I played GW for all those years too so I'm used to it.

Good idea! So to sum up, the option we'd like to see is that you get the "right mouse button effect" on toggle. I'd also like this option to add a small dot in the middle of the screen. The dot indicates where your AoEs will be cast (same as AoE fast-casting but with the mouse always centered). This way you dont have to switch back to mouse-pointer mode when casting AoEs.

Basically it's FPS style controls but with a toggle to mouse-pointer mode in order to allow clicking of UI elements as well.

Me, too, but I'm starting to think that may have been intentional after I the skills that cause you to roll backwards and damage the target at the same time.

There was reverse direction in GW2, and I binded it to X for familiarity. You had to go to the options menu, it was there but without any key binded to it.

TBH the camera is my biggest gripe with the game tbh.

The funny thing is, is that the combat is fairly similar to Divinity 2 -  action based hotkey combat (albeit Divinity 2 is more action orientated and GW2 is more traditionally orientated).

The camera system there is perfect. In GW2 is makes melee in PvP a bit frustrating tbh.

he is looking for a mouselook option. A common feature in most FPS. You move the mouse, you move the camera. No extra button needed.

Yes, and that helped a lot!  I use that key a lot in GW1...

I missed that, then. I bet that helps a lot with those skills.

The Witcher 1 had a system like this (when using over the shoulder view):

Game works as a general 3rd person action game when out in the world, moving the mouse moved the camera, selection was through a reticule at the center of the screen.
When holding Alt (I think) the cursor would appear. It would also appear whenever you entered a menu.

I'd like to see this in GW2.

I agree this was a big pain for me. I need to free up that right mouse button and finger. If I turn to the left I want my camera to follow me and look to the left. The left mouse button is already set up so I can look behind me then when I let the button go it snaps back to the way I'm facing. I want the camera to auto follow my movements. I am so happy you started this thread because this is one my only complaints.

Are we still able to access the beta forums. Is the a suggestion section? I would but this topic there if so

the problem with mouselook is ground targeted aoe spells. You can't always target where you want to.

Yeah I'd greatly prefer mouselook be in there. For melee mode you're at a big disadvantage if you can't quickly check all around you for extra enemies. Even as a caster I'd rather have it while exploring.

There should be no issue making GT spells auto toggle mouselook off on cast.
All we need to do next is to toggle it back on after we cast the GT, no big deal, it's what I have been doing for years in DAoC. WoW did not have this option but there were third party addons that enabled it.

The only hiccup here would be when you have fastcast GT on as well.

Actually when playing TERA I felt that that was done really well as the mouse buttons were free for abilities, making the combat (Note: the combat, guys) feel really engaging and upfront. I would like to see something like this as well, though not sure whether it's handy to implement. But it did feel really nice in TERA in any case.

Except that in tera you had no control over the mouse and no ground aiming mouse. In guild wars 2, you need the mouse for certain abilities especially ground targeted abilities.  So while it might have worked in Tera, but that is due to the way the WHOLE game is design, it wont work for most classes in guild wars 2.

I held down the right mouse button the entire time too. The auto camera got on my nerves very fast (and made me a bit motion sick too) with the way it swiveled with character movement.

Perhaps a "sticky" click for the free camera would be useful. Right Click once to active it, again to deactivate.
