So I recorded my mesmer gameplay using Sword/Pistol and Scepter/Torch. Let me know what you think about it
:)

That was very interesting.  That was very different from my personal style -- I had tried using a sword as my primary weapon at first, but I had a hard time with kiting enemies.

I ended up using a staff most of the time in PvP, and using sword/torch as my second set.  I essentially used a "festering" condition build, with the sword functioning as situational melee dps and the torch as a as a get out of jail free card.  That worked very well me.

I'll have to try your build the next BWE.

Impressive! Next beta weekend, I need to try this combo. While GS is fun (and hilariously rediculous. ANCIENT EGYPTION LASERBEAMS GO!) I definitely prefer the zip in > zip out style of Mesmer play.

Grah, you're lucky, everyone I fought kited me when I had sword as a mesmer, even melee users, it was almost impossible to get a blurred frenzy off without a stun. Even then it was hard because a lot of people came with stun breakers or their friend stunned/launched me.

Well a lot of people didn't know you could change your starting weapons, which involves a greatsword.

I really like sword/pistol and scepter/torch its very good though I don't think you need 20k hp you should use the power/precision/crit dmg ammy since you are a mesmer you are able to not get hit too much :)
I'm sad i haven't tried scepter/torch myself !

Oh and can you tell me why you aren't using decoy ?
Decoy +  "the prestige" (torch spell) would allow you to juke even more your opponent, I feel.
instead of using mantra of distraction you could create another illusion and go invisible.           *IMO* tell me why you made these choice of utility! :D

The secret I learned to not being kited with the MH-sword is to start off fighting with a Staff.

Many people saw me swinging that big stick around, hurling all that pretty purple confetti, and came charging into range thinking they would put a quick stop all the fabulous hilarity - and just as they got close I dropped chaos storm, popped chaos armor, switched to MH sword and revealed what my real spec was.

Nice vid. My playstyle was similar during some of the the beta, but I had to drop the scepter.... the spam skill felt weak, so I used staff or greatsword with decoy instead.

Well i choose Mirror Images for obvious reasons;p
About mantra... I liked the idea of being able to stop them from using skills whenever I want (if mantra I ready of couse), plus with traits (+1 sec daze duration, using mantras twice) I get 4 seconds of daze.
Signet of Domination was useful when my pistol stun wasn't ready and i wanted to use Blurred Frenzy.

So, with Pistol in my OffHand, Mantra of Distraction and Signet of Domination i was able to cause 4 seconds stun + 4 seconds daze, and that seemed pretty decent for me :)

I was one of those people (though I played a necro in PVP). I've looked everywhere to find a way and change the weapons but couldn't find anything. Still had a blast with the skills provided :B

So why is everyone so against greatswords on these forums? I've seen someone say this at least 100 times. What gives?

I know there are people out there who didn't know you could change weapons...but what if people just like that style of play?

Sword/Sword, and GreatSword is the only way to roll as far as i'm concerned. Great melee, great range you have a push-back, clone/illusion generation, a block, invulnerability all while doing great damage. In my opinion greatsword currently is a must have to proficient pvp since ranged classes are king, and you need to able to counter that 1200 range.

I really liked gs/staff. I did a 1v3 and faired quite well. I'd like to try sword/pistol | staff or sword/sword | staff. Next BWE! :)

I dunno man although I do use the Great sword for the knock back most of the video I created was with the staff. Then again I was going for control and confusion. I wanted to be able to solo defend nodes. It was an epic experience! It really did motivate me to go Mesmer come live. I like how i can buff/debuff and defend effectively. I tried the dual wield swords and sword/torch, I noticed that any aoe dropped on a point where you are at just messes with the play style.

this is how in invisioned the Mesmer to be ! more like a ninja magician :) so much awesome

i rolled Sword/Torch + Staff and had so much fun. While as someone mentioned it was hard to get a blurred frenzy off - i believe they need to alter the mechanic for this - maybe add a cripple to it? for poor people like me living in NZ .. it was hard enough landing a hit with lag let alone them running away.

i used greatsword with pistol sword offhand. the pistol sword is great for evading and its decent dmg. the pistol stun helps ur shatters connect too
