So perhaps GW2, even though it hasn't released yet, is the herald of a return to 3-faction pvp in the genre. It would be a welcome change, definitely.

It is one thing to have muliplayer in the elder scrolls universe but making it an MMO?!! The flying !@#$
No, just no. The last thing I want to see in an elder scrolls game is a naked wood elf jumping around spamming "healer LFG questing!"
The Elder Scroll is a staple of immersion in the RPG genre. It is THE game to get lost and explore in, I played Skyrim for it's hidden wonders, freedom and exploration and couldn't give a rats ass about anything else.
And now they are taking the best thing away from the game, why?! How could mugging random townsfolk work in an MMO let another PvP in an elder scrolls game?!
It's release date is in 2013?!!! No, for the love of God just release an elder scrolls MMO when it's ready! If you're going to make an elder scrolls MMO at least make it as flawless as humanly possible.

ZeniMax Online, which still links it to the parent company of Bethesda and therefore they can get whatever they need from Bethesda relatively easy.
Oh and it's (according to the Zenimax wiki) using the same engine SWTOR used. The HeroEngine.

This. If you make TES multiplayer, keep it to something like 4 player co-op.

You are acting like they're not going to make any more singleplayer games. There's a reason they made the MMO so early on in Elder Scrolls history. It's so they have enough "lore time" to continue developing the single player games across the various regions while their pet studio can tend to the MMO.

Edit: For the record, I am very willing to be pleasantly surprised by this MMO. I just don't have very high hopes at the moment.

Elder Scrolls is not a game for massive multiplayer. At it's core the elder scrolls series are about wonder, exploration and freedom. Something that playing with other players quickly ruins. It feels like a very cheap cash-in by taking something popular making it into an MMO (ex. SWTOR).

The problem is they're NOT making a single player game now. Eager for Final Fantasy Versus 13? TO BAD, enjoy Final Fantasy 14, 13 and 13-2.

You do know that Bethesda Softworks isn't the actual company developing the MMORPG? This studio however...
I'm not happy about some seemingly inexperienced company make an attempt at desecrating the Elder Scrolls universe.

Also, what about subscription fee? If they have one, it smells more like a cheap cash in to me, which will simply tarnish the franchise as a whole. Elder Scrolls has always been about freedom and immersion, exploring that with a buddy or three would be fine, amazing even. But when you turn it into an MMO, and include linear fetch and kill quests ala WoW, Rift, or SWTOR, then we have a problem!
I don't like this, but I will reserve final judgement untill I see more information.

Seriously, I loved Skyrim but couldn't get into the two previous games. I am really not sure how they are going to pull this off while retaining that ES feeling.
EDIT- I am calling a sub fee right now.
