I do think people will have to go in with an open mind. I'm a big elder scrolls fans but I know there will be quite a few different things put in for it to be an mmo, so I'll try to keep my disappointment of certain features not in out of evaluating the game. I suppose it is kind of similar of GW2 coming from GW1.
This is huge.
We can't expect that we'll be able to kill any old peasant walking the street, or being able to steal 100 watermelons and then drop them all over the place. The sandboxy features we've come to adore will most likely be replaced with conventional MMO gimmicks. Hopefully, the world will still feel alive enough to enjoy it like other Elder Scrolls games.
Time will tell...

I highly doubt it. Elder scrolls players will go in expecting Elder scrolls BUT with online, while MMO player will go in expecting the killer on the block.
Or most likely based on recent history, during beta will be the greatest game EVER...till release.

Right now I expect something roughly to what I got out of skyrim, a rich lore to experience through dull, repetitive dungeons and combat. And without the sandboxy nature of skyrim to let me muck around, I'm worried that this is just going to be ESO the name, not the game. If I can't stack hundreds of world corpses in my house, I'm going to be mad. The ESO games have always shone for me in their freedom and modding capabilities, the vanilla games I've always found rather poor on the game aspect of things.

A slong as you fill out the full application you get excellent. rating. So if you chose 1 game add one game youve tested. Then add you dxdiag and then check all the boxes for ToS and newsletters and make sure to include tour play styles. You get excellent.

Although I know this is a good way to make money for Bethesda, I still don't get why they couldn't do this in Skyrim, Oblivion or Morrowid. Here's my concept on how it'd look with Skyrim:
Since Skyrim is quite demanding, the multiplayer would be instanced. You'd get one "hub" area, that would hold say 10 players (could be Whiterun or some new area) in "idle" status, meaning you could walk around, sit and do all kinds of random stuff. That's for the socializing part.
Since there's Console on PC (the "~" button) as well as mods, Bethesda would add a New Game Pure mode or something, where all the unofficial modifications would be disabled as well as cheatcodes. Console would still work, it'd be used as Chat system though.
As for PvE part, upon entering a dungeon or any area set to be PvE, a box would pop up where you'd choose to go alone or invite friends from your friendlist (could be done via Steam or using some custom method). A dungeon could hold say up to 5 players and the monsters difficulty would scale accordingly.
As for PvP, they'd simply add some kind of Arena (such as Imperial City Arena from Oblivion, not entirely sure if Skyrim has something like this), where you'd either get matched up against similar level oponents and rank up or invite a person from your Friendlist for a battle.
I think this would be much more appreciated by players than TES:Online and it doesn't sound that difficult to implement either...

The lore-destruction will be worse than ever before - and the extremely choppy combat will be pretty much laughable, by modern MMO standards.
Bethesda trying to cash in on the MMO-craze is just going to burn them. The only reason their games are really even playable are due to mods - and I'm not sure those will be possible, with an MMO.
If you're hyped for ESO, try to look at everything coming out about without fanboy eyes. I say that just so that you don't get burned as hard as I got burned by GW2.

If you like something you're obvously a blind fanboy and if you don't like something you're obviously a blind hater. May as well get used to it because nothing is good at anything these days, it's all just gold-plated crap according to the party lines.
Generally thinking independently and not succuming to stereotype game is not allowed these days.

I agree with your post but TES:O is being developped by another studio, specifically founded for it and with some very experienced devs.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a sort of bluff. Telling people the criteria to get selected isn't a very good idea, but those who clearly went out of their way to get an "excellent rating" by just ticking all the boxes, are the people are probably the least likely to do actual testing. So they know to avoid those kinds of people.
Plus they want a range of playstyles, so I think a lot of people with below average/average ratings actually have a higher chance of getting in than the masses who went for excellents.

People these days... I think the amount of cynicals has increased by 10 times in recent years. If you don't like the idea, fine. But don't try to ruin other peoples experience. I for example did not get burned by GW2, it's the best MMO I've ever played, besides GW1, despite not being perfect. But apparently saying that makes me a "fanboy".
Well, I prefer being able to actually enjoy games, instead of flaming them for the things they don't get right on day one and then loose all hope that any game in the genre will ever be good again.

Except you don't always get "Excellent" if you just fill out the entire survey. I did. I got above average. The only questions I didn't answer/boxes I didn't tick were if I wanted to be kept up-to-date (A.k.a. newsletters), * no. If they really decide the difference between Above Average and Excellent based on that...

As an aside, is it possible to like something without being called a fanboy?

The no shards idea is nice, a bit like GW. Crouching, blocking, sneaking are nice additions compared to GW2 and I definitely like the more realistic weapons and armour I've seen thus far as the more "strict" fantasy setting compared with the steampunky and cartoonish gnomes/asura and their robots. Also the DAoC 3-faction world PvP sounds good; I always liked the idea of factions and 3 of them is a lot more balanced and immersive than just "server pride" or 2 unequal factions.
But there's just so very little information available about the game. It can go a lot of ways, there's far too little information available to be either hyped or negative about it. WAR seemed a great game too (and I still love the style) - and look what it has become. I have a lot more questions than answers and doing the beta will clarify a lot.

I don't know why you're trying to make commentary on "people these days:(" being too cynical. On the topic of ESO, the only optimism I have is cautious optimism that the animation, combat mechanics, backstory for why the races are together, and proposed mechanics are reworked.
As you can see, that's a tall order - and probably won't occur.
Thus, I know it'll be a fail like TOR.
I -hope- it fails so companies stop jumping on the "we gotta have an MMO" bandwagon.
