At first I was like "bleh."

But then I remembered the combat in Skyrim was nothing special.

If the MMO can improve combat, and keep at least a shadow of the "feel" of the world alive, it could be good.

If it's P2P not interested, B2P, then I'll try it out.
Also why is everyone making MMOs all if a sudden?

Yup thats what i was thinking... not interested in P2P games anymore.

MMOs = more money long term. Not only that but it limits the pirate copies. Its so easy to get something like Skyrim for free. Not only that but by now most people have moved on from Skyrim. MMOs usually hold peoples attention for alot longer.

Staring at the Game Informer scans right now.  Honestly this looks like just another MMO.  Definitely not seeing a whole heck of a lot that would appeal to the people who actually play and enjoy Elder Scrolls games.  Forced third person, no real-time combat, hotkey abilities.  The use of the highly suspect Hero Engine is the cherry on top.

Meh, sounds a little like daoc. I don't have high hopes for it but depending on how it shapes up i'll try it. If there is a cap on players in world pvp i'll probably just skip it though. I'd rather have a terrible looking mmo that can handle large amounts of people than them throw a cap on a zone (like gw2).

Like alot of people said, what make ES interesting is the exploration and discovery, but as a mmo you are not the only hero to find everything. everything will mostly be found, analysed and farmed before you even get there.

Also, no mods, which is the only thing that save the ES from being boring after the first run,

Just wait for the first CGI trailer that doesn't actually show any gameplay, it will be the best game ever.

However is Third person really a bad thing? I personally loved third person in Skyrim and used it exclusively with no problems (And I played a stealth archer) It gives a much greater FoV allowing for faster reaction and tactical positioning, I suppose it being optional in Skyrim was a benefit but they are probably enforcing a standard since it is a multi-player game.

Can't say I am interested especially if it is going to be pay to play.

I also like using third person about 50% of the time in Skyrim (like you said, better spacial awareness), but I'm sure the reason they're doing this in the game has more to do with meeting MMO conventions (again, like you said).  I just know that it'll be a huge turn-off for the first person purists.  I think the thing that is going to frustrate people the most (especially followers of the single player games) is that when the news broke that an Elder Scrolls MMO was in production, the initial hope was that it would be like an Elder Scrolls game you could play with your friends.  Not a MMO set in an Elder Scrolls setting.  Or maybe that's just me.

Oh I realize,

I was also referencing when Skyrim was first announced, we got a mostly CGI traler with only a couple landscape shots and absolutely no gameplay and suddenly it was the "best game ever". Sure it did turn out really good, but I still always save my judgement until I actually can see the game in action. (Just like I learned this past weekend that I liked playing a Thief more then the Engineer)

Not really bashing before I try though, its just funny how many people jump on hype trains with nothing to go on.

Pfff... They're trying to make a DAOC in the ES universe with 2007 game mechanics and a P2P model, ridiculous... I'm not even interested in this, and God knows how bad I wanted a full Tamriel ES game...

basically this is what will happen

The game announces, the guessing game begins, people expectations are way above reality
First CGI trailer launches, people go "OMG BEST GAME EVAR" everywhere on the interwebs and the speculations begins, expectations are still way above reality
A blackout of info for some years time, people still discuss it casually and a fanbase brews
First convention with gameplay after some years time, people go to see it in hordes then the future branches...

A)People get disappointed because its not what they imagined, TES fanboys says its not TES, fanboys rage and defend their game with tooth and claws, but the game is decent
B)People get disappointed because its not what they imagined, TES fanboys says its not TES, fanboys rage and defend their game with tooth and claws, but the game sucks(like we knew in the first SW:TOR gameplays that it was going to stink)

The development goes  on with their pink colored glass forums, beta begins and a huge backlash of the game begins

if(A==true)
The game launches, the subs stabilize and people stop to pick on it after sometime
if(B==true)
The game launches, they bleed subs, people picks on that fact for months and months

Welcome to your next 4 years year of mmo history folks
I just need to add one thing

Comparisons troll thread between Titan GW2 and TESO creates big battlefield for fanboys everywhere

EDIT:
Nevermind, it looks like it comes next year
Made some changes

Sounds pretty bad at this point. My bet is on it being more or less a WoW clone in Tamriel. Three-faction PVP is cool and all, but when it's done using traditional tab-targeting MMO mechanics, then it's just boring. Add to this the fact that Bethesda makes the buggiest games ever and I think we're in for another ride on the MMO failboat. :D

I think it's funny there aren't any "will it work?" comments when mentioning the GW2-esque mechanics when GW2 articles were full of such comments. Either the author is comfortable with still-untested concepts or thinks any game with TES attached will do well.

Bethesda isn't making this game, it's being developed by Zenimax Online Studios with collaboration with Bethesda.

I wonder when this will release considering 13-13-13 isn't a valid date.

To be honest, I think this game will be a big flop but we'll see.

^ LOL

But seriously, the announced release date being next year already is highly suspicious. Too bad, I really enjoyed Skyrim and some form of co-op multiplayer in that game would've been awesome. As others said already, Skyrim's forte is immersion. If they could somehow mix Skyrim's real-time combat with GW2-like dynamic events and systems that encourage exploration and ad-hoc grouping, they'd have a solid title on their hands. With the release date so near already, it seems too late to go in that direction. Will keep an eye on it but won't be suprised if it tanks.

I've long felt the Elder Scrolls could make for an amazing MMO. It's a world already filled with so much lore, so much potential.

BUT... I'm not going to get my hopes up till I read about the mechanics of the game. Perfect example - The Old Republic could have been an amazing MMO, but when I looked into the mechanics of the game all I saw was EverWoW set in Star Wars. And time has proven I made the right decision (for me) to not get TOR.

There's a reason GW2 has been the only MMO on the horizon I've actually been interested in. GW2 will be different. ArenaNet seems to actually understand what "fun" means. Will TES Online be different, or more of the same?

Amazing. These comments are absolutely amazing. We know almost nothing about the game and haven't seen any footage, and yet people are writing it off. This is doubly amusing considering the fact that the leader designer of DAoC is involved in the project. This was a game that is instrumental to GW2's WvW design. How you have so much faith in this game and yet none at all in ESO is slightly amusing.

Save your judgment for when the game has more details released. Right now, it will be intriguing to see if this Elder Scrolls MMO can bring something interesting to the table.

Meh. I've learned to trust my instincts. When TOR was announced -- I sat there watching that stupid countdown hoping for something epic -- I knew from what was said and the pics that were shown that the game would be underwhelming. I'm getting the same feeling about this Elder Scrolls MMO. I'd like to be proven wrong, of course, but time will tell.

I'm usually the last person to make quick judgement on a game before it's released, and I'm a HUGE fan of the Elder Scrolls, but I am almost positive that this game is going to be a flop. My question is, why? Seriously why would they make something like this? I think the worst part of it all that it's using the HeroEngine. When I read that I just fell back in my chair and died inside. The Hero Engine is hideous, it's the same piece of crap that TOR uses. Filthy disgusting models that look and move like something from a decade ago.

By the sound of it, Simutronics sold the alpha HeroEngine to ZeniMax even before they sold it to BioWare, which means it could be an even uglier build. Why would anyone start post-production of a game on an unfinished engine?

This will be like TOR. Fun at first because its a universe everyone loves, but when it boils down to it, it will be a WoW clone. After playing GW2, I couldnt see myself playing this for more than a week or two just to check it out the map and stuff.

A classless design is really difficult to pull off and still come out with a balanced game for PVP,

TES games I have played have been great in that they offer a classless design but there is absolutely no balance to the system, there are to many combinations out there for people to make completely broken characters, just think of the problems Guild Wars 1 had with having multi-classing, its a very difficult thing to balance in a multi-player game.

I like Bethesda's skill system, but it really wouldn't translate well to a multiplayer game which is probably why they made the choice to go with classes, it just means a more stable game in the long run. There is also a lot more opportunity with a class system to design classes that have good synergy with themselves and their allies.
