I was reading a couple threads involving the map of Tyria when I got an idea in my head. Could someone make it all the way to the level 80 zone straight out of the tutorial? They could get part of the journey done already by taking the gate to Lion's Arch and going from there. I realize that someone trying this would probably level up a bit on the way due to discovering points of interest, but do you think it's possible seeing as there's no real requirement for going into zones? Could it even become some kind of challenge? Discuss.

well I got to the ring of fire at level 3 in GW1, there's no reason why wouldn't be possible in GW2.

There's no real requirement but you're going to be way underleveled to be able to even hit a mob. As long as you don't come across any enemy, you should be fine. But what's the point of doing that, if you can't really kill anything there? Perhaps do some pacific Hearts? I don't know if you could do them anyway. But since XP rewards are scalable, it wouldn't make a difference.

Im sure you could do it, it would be difficult, you cant get touched by an enemy along the way, but it will be possible.

I doubt it since you would unlock of a lot of xp simply by traveling there.  I think you can explore the 3 starting cities and hit level 7 alone.  Also gear is level required so you couldn't even twink a toon to try and get there safely.  Will you be able to drag players in parties from zone to zone?  If not I bet you'd hit something like level 10 just from the journey.

Of course there's no real reason to do it, haha. Obviously the biggest problem would be dodging all of the mobs. I just feel like someone could get an unbelievable sense of accomplishment from getting to Orr at a ridiculously early level. I know I would.

Sure it will be possible, I'm sure you will meet players wherever there are mobs and as such you will be able to sneak past :)

Reminds me of GW1 and being ran through everything, ascended at level 4 and later playing Ascalon arena at level 10 with FoW armor.

I remembered seeing a level 3 with Primeval armor once. But seeing as you can't really get run through everything anymore, it could become a bit more challenging.

Same, spent so much money on different characters just for the reason, had like 3 lvl 10's with that.

Well.. I doubt it'd really hard tbh. Usually roads or paths do not have mobs around, but who knows.

Yes, a level 2 player can go straight to Orr after completing the starter area.  It will be extremely difficult or impossible to do so considering how aggro range works.  Aggro range in GW2 works the same way as it does in WoW; the aggro range is dependant on the level difference between you and your foe.

For instance, I was a level 6 in the 15-25 area "Snowden Drifts" during the previous BWE.  I had to get around level 23 monsters in order to explore the area.  After many hours and hundreds of deaths, I did explore the entire area (and got some really nice EXP out of it too), but the aggro range was quite far.  I could not outrun the projectiles fired by ranged mobs, but I could out-maneuver/outrun most melee mobs.  It takes skill and proper technique to outrun monsters.

If the aggro range is linear and does not have a distance cap, I can see a level 2 dying very quickly as he ventures into the level 30, 40, and 50 areas.  Although he will get some awesome exp by running through the areas along the way (and gaining levels as a result), it just simply will not be enough to get past.  After dying hundreds of times, you will eventually get there...but would it really be worth it at that point?

Me and my guild Atop Beacon's Perch have been extensively researching and experimenting with the theory of "escort running".  A runner using party-wide speed boosts and protection skills can theoretically escort players past mobs and to zone portals.  If this theory is proven true through experimentation that we will conduct in the upcoming BWE's, then players will be able to hire the services of an "escort runner" to take them to these high level areas quickly and efficiently.  You can pm me if you want to learn more about this.

After completing the starter area, do the following.
  • Go to your major city.
  • Take the Asura Gate to Lion's Arch.
  • Run through Lion's Arch and enter the zone portal into Bloodtide Coast.
  • Run through Bloodtide Coast and enter the zone portal into Sparkfly Fen.
  • Run through Sparkfly Fen and enter the zone portal into Orr.
And bam, you are in Orr

Not intended to change the subject, but I think someone finding all the waypoints and Points of Interest without gaining unnecessary experience would be a bit more interesting.  They'd certainly end up gaining several levels from the combined experience, but as another poster has noted, specific high-level areas can generally be gotten to relatively quickly.  Roaming zone to zone to zone while dodging bads would be a much more exhausting marathon!

Sure, unless there is some item needed to enter the zone. Or if there is one zone ent that has enemy mobs sitting at it. Then you're SOL.

This is possible b/c you'll keep dying but you can rez at any waypoint. Once you run out of money (and you will quickly), you'll be able to rez at those waypoints for free.

Though you'd lvl up from finding the places (like mentioned above). I suppose that is a problem.

No, but do your research and you will see that this is how it will work.

It will not be possible unless they open up Bloodtide Coast, Sparkfly Fen, and some of the Orrian areas in the next BWE...which is extremely unlikely.

You will have to wait for release...and even then...you won't beat me there :P

When you run out of money, only the closest unlocked waypoint to your corpse is able to be traveled to for free.  You can't choose to travel to ANY unlocked waypoint for free, only the closest one that you have unlocked.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit that they introduce some sort of "infusion" to prevent low level players from accessing those zones. Something like you must enchant your armor because the air will transform you into a Thrall.

It's pretty easy to run through areas in this game without drawing aggro so it might be possible.

I hope they don't have an infusion mechanic. I think it's a good challenge, similar to the Droks Run in Prophecies. It was a cool community topic to talk about, theorycraft around, etc. It had no impact on the game overall in my opinion but it was just a fun side thing. Should be open in GW2.

Should be hard but doable if you can manage to avoid mobs, points of interest, and most of the waypoints.  Sounds like a fun challenge.

I loathe artificial gating of content. Prophecies was great in that regard, the other expansions sucked in that regard.

I'd be extremely disappointed if they level gated the high level zones. I think armor repair alone should be discouraging enough.

First one to make it to Orr as the lowest level wins - loser must publicy announce their defeat on the forums. Challenge Accepted?

Oh I'm going to love the seeing the equivalent of Lvl2 in Hell's Precipice in GW2. Since you get XP for discovering, you would have to stay away from waypoints and towns as best as you can, which is very risky, because if you die on your way to Arah, you would have to start all over again or wait for someone to revive you. I'm looking forward to it.
