Anyone else worried about clipping issues? I have a feeling Long Hair models are going to clip with most suits/armor. Which is a little unfortunate for me because i normally choose long hair models ^_^"... might just have to "tuff" it out :x

Well, in any game, no matter how hard developers try, there will always be some small margin of clipping issues. Animating a model is hard :( even for some of the most experienced animators.

Personally, I'm not too worried about it. And I'm a 3D Animator myself :P

Though, that could explain why I give them slack.

I'll probably just end up toughing it out in the long run. It wont be game breaking for me. And hopefully battle stances will help out with the clipping ^_^"

I admit I'm not a big fan of clipping, but know that it's hard to avoid it 100%. I like long hair too. My solution is to get armor that clips the least, and then it's less noticeable.

Depends on how they animate hair. I doubt it's finished.

Not worried about it, i've dealt with clipping for so long it doesn't bother me anymore - unless of course you're wearing a full helmet that covers your entire head and yet your hair is still coming out, that would be annoying.

Btw, I'm diggin' your new avatar Krazz

In Tera they solve the long hair clipping issue (for females at least) by changing the hairdo when wearing certain armor which would otherwise make the hair clip. I would like to see something like that in Guild Wars 2, but then as an option (in the settings somewhere) instead of it being mandatory.

would be cool if we could have the option to use variety of hairstyles based on a chosen hair length, and can be changed via the Hero Screen anytime we're out of combat.

The only time I've actually seen clipping was with the Norn models.

That did not amuse me. Why even pick a hair then when they ultimately pick your hair for you? Lazy "fix" that invalidates the option in the first place.

What? And lose the chance to sell you a haircut in the cash shop?

I'm worried not about hair - armor clipping, but about clipping issues between armor parts. I have no screenshots but for example when human / female / gardian wear scale torso armor and chainmail legs then we see "air" (empty place) between parts. It's not big (like belt or so) but it really!

This has occured in every single game that I've played. It is unfortunate since because of this you have to avoid long hairstyles, which I would like to use on some of my female chars. I tested the human character generator and I found out that there really aren't very long hairstyles there. Perhaps Arenanet has tried to avoid this issue.

I can understand that it might be hard to fix this problem as I often find it suprising how complex the most simple things are in the computer world. What they could do to make this less annoying? Allow hair makeovers so that people can change to a shorter hairstyle when their armour causes these problems. It is rather obvious that they'd have this option in the gem shop for some kind of fee, but I'd much rather have it as a barber shop in game. Changing the hairstyle shouldn't cost all that much. They could put a more advanced options like changing the haircolour or facial features to the gem shop.

It used to bother me, but since I know that it's not just my character whose hair will clip and everyone knows that's an issue with long hair, I've mostly gotten over it.

Such a classic issue, I am willing to overlook a certain amount of clipping in any game. However, this has plagued the gaming industry forever... Hair that disappears when you wear a hat/helm, one of my biggest gaming pet-peeves in existence.

Anet is famous for armor clipping some they addressed some they didn't (female mesmers were infamous for clipping).  :(

I noticed that my torso armour clipped straight through the top of my shoulder armour as a male human warrior, something I haven't seen in an mmo before. Hair in gw2 seems to have at least a rudimentary form of physics applied to it, you can see it clearly when spinning your character in the creator. I wonder how difficult it would be to adapt it so that hair lies on top of armour.

Armour clipping issues with customizable elements of character personalisations are so low on a developer's list of priorities that they might never be even discussed... never mind being addressed or fixed.

Depends on how it is done but the more dynamic it is the more resources it will need both for your and other characters on the screen - not a problem in a single player third person game (think Blades of Time) but could quickly get silly in a MMO.

Hell some of the old guild wars armors have had bugs for years, that have been reported and ignored, like the 1k luxon armor top for female warriors. The polygons in the abdomen don't look like they've been properly connected to each other and it causes the torso to glow in dim areas of the game and breaks the shadow up into an ugly blob. That was reported numerous times over the years and totally ignored by Anet.

Don't expect any armor/hair clipping issues to be resolved in gw2 at all.

Agreed. Better a few clippings than ANet falling for obvious quick fixes. Quick fixes would tell that they aren't even trying anymore.

This would be great. Like they disable some haircuts while wearing a helmet. i hope they polish these things. hopefully before launch

It was either them or the Charr males that I saw it on frequently, hands constantly going into their hips/thighs in the cut scenes or when just standing around in game and they start doing the idle animation swaying

Yeah wasn't pink on my machine but you can obviously see the problem instantly and it would have taken all of 10 min or so to fix if its just unlinked points on the mesh. Same with an outstanding graphics bug in Kodesh Bazaar. There is a blantantly misplaced polygon, visible from one side on the back staircase by the skill trainer, that you can't miss, just cutting diagonally through like 3 or 4 steps that isn't supposed to be there. It's been reported multiple times and would again take a few minutes for any 3d artist to fix yet has been ignored since Nightfall was released.

Don't expect any fixes at all. Quick would be better then none IMO. At least that would show they did care, compared to these outstanding year old problems that have never been fixed at all.

This kind of thing makes sense as you'd be tucking your hair into your helm anyway. :)

Since the beginnings of time in MMO-land there hath been clipping

and yea, the gods of MMO-land hath decreed that this shall be the fruit of all concept artists: THY CHILDREN'S HAIR SHALL NOT LOOK GOOD.

and verily this shall also be the case with tails.

and with that the gods retreated and were not heard from again.

It was pretty noticeable with my Charr character. The tail would just go through the characters jacket. Pretty immersion breaking, but a minor complaint in my opinion.

I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the Charr models. Although I suppose that's one of the things that'll come with the territory of making a beast-like model for people to play.

To me, that's rather small. Hair clipping through helmets? Not so cool.

I agree. I purchased the http://wiki.guildwar...ingmaster's_Hat with my gems during the beta and found my norn's long hair replaced by an odd wig, which I didn't care for. I get that clipping can't be avoided 100% but the hair/armor thing is probably what bothers me the most. I have no actual suggestion or remedy for this situation (because I'm not an artist), but that's how I feel about it nevertheless.

I do.

Create a separate hairstyle for those hairs that need it with a domed shape where the hat sits so there is no hair clipping through the hat/helmet. That won't be done though because, you know, it's work and not quick work.
