Ok, from the recent interview - I have read that a lot of people do not want to do the escort event - fine - but what events would you like to see? I'm just curious

I can imagine one where you come across NPC's in the forest who have been attacked - they have someone dieing and you have to track down the attackers, defeat them, and bring back something to save the NPC's. - If you fail, the NPC dies, and when you return to the nearest town, or outpost the shops are closed for a day of morning. If you succeed - there's a celebration going on.

What ideas do you have??

I'd just about rule out fedex quests for events, because they hinge on one character carrying an item for success.  Hence the "escort" equivalent where everyone can participate.

1.
Siege of a town/castle - have to hold out until the re-enforcements arrive.

Posted Image

2. Stealing some secret document from the enemy camp, revealing where the next attack will come, so that the town can prepare. Have to run back and warn the town without getting captured.

A tornado approaching a small village, and you have to build anchors to keep it from getting sucked in. Stuff like that thrills me.

Here's the thing... GW1 included just about every major genre of quest that exists: siege defense, protect the NPC, gather X trophies, etc.  I expect to see more of the same in GW2.  The only key difference is that now they will chain together differently depending on how the previous step resolves.

As for the context of each event, it does not matter much to me.  Saving a baby Asura from marauding undead is roughly the same as saving a Krytan statesman against a fringe sect of Charr.

Thats awesome.  Somebody should make a book/film of this, I'd read/watch it.

Anyway I'd LOVE Fort. A style battles.  I loved the dynamic of that, especially defending.  Repelling intruders at the gates and taking to the battlements etc.

Engaging in war with a non-character race that lasts days or perhaps weeks and changes the world for an equal amount of time.

But its not gonna happen

Event trigger: Players have let too many Hydra's breed.

An NPC gets dragged into some bushes. If you follow, you'll see a gang of Inquest Asura have tied him up and are pulling him away somewhere. Following them, you find the NPC strung up in the middle of a field.

The Asura start herding Hydra toward a pair of machines on either side of the guy. If you let them fill the machines with a pair, the machines grow the hydra to epic proportions, and release them simultaneously. Seeing the helpless NPC immediately, both charge toward it at high speed, and collide.

Then we have to get up on the Hydra's back.

I would like to be part of non-combat events, like seeing the the Queen of Kryta grant knighthood to another player with a "noble" background. Or witness a debate in senate chambers about important laws in Divinty's Reach.

Maybe participate by letting us steer these events in some minor fashion. Perhaps have the Senator be persuaded by Karma.

Champions Online had open missions which were sort of like what ArenaNet describes their events. Surrounding players will participate in tasks that advance the event as they are completed, and after they are done, a robust boss will spawn. It would be the same event on an internal.

For example, there is an open mission downtown called "A Bullet Bound For Biselle". The mayor of Millennium City is holding a rally, and Viper, a crime syndicate, has planned to assassinate him as he is making his speech.

Your first task would be to take out the Viper snipers hiding on the rooftops of the buildings. Once you defeat a certain amount, your next task is to use an identifier device to hound out Viper agents disguised as citizens. Once that is done, the big boss comes out, and the citizens and the mayor are brought to safety as everyone deals with that boss.

The only failure is when time runs out and the boss is still alive. The game then puts up a timer telling when the event starts again.

Other events require you to do things that not always include fighting mobs, but a boss is always the finale.

they should have an event that starts when your a really bad player.. like let's say your faceplanting all over the map

then you might see a bush rustle.. little things here and there

then all of a sudden it's dead quiet and all the mobs disappear.. bears come from 360 degrees and it shows your characters legs quiver

Humm, I'm fine with everything that would interest a young, naive Sylvari. :D

But since a lot of the events we have been told about so far are about driving back/defending against enemies or even setting up a beachhead on the shores of Orr... I'm hoping that we'll get events that chain together to create something that feels like you're participating in a (maybe minor) war.

Quote

If you take part in an event chain where you storm the beaches of Orr, clearing out enemy defenses and creating a location for troops to set up a forward base in enemy territory, it will really happen! You and other players will wipe out the enemy, destroy their defensive structures, clear a path for the troops to land, and watch them build a command center while you defend them. You’ll see mortars and catapults being built, watch golems carry in supplies, and witness troops begin the assault on the Orrian mainland. Should the players fail in these events, these chains can be pushed back in other directions, but the events will truly have an effect on the game world and make a lasting difference for as long as the players choose to participate in them.
This quote from the last blog post really gets my hopes up. That sounds a lot like we'll be able to participate in assaults (even if we can't initiate those ourselves) and as long as we try to push on they will continue somehow.

Plus the golems + mortars sound a lot like Asura & Charr cooperation. And I guess then the other three races are close by. The free races maybe get sick of being defending and decide to strike back together?

I want to see some events that extend across the entire world.  Not just events that can happen anywhere in the world, but that the actual chain itself snakes its way around the entire globe.

They're probably going to do something like that with the dragons.  Every three or two months a new dragon arises depending on the final number, and players all over the world have to work together in a series of events to beat it back into hibernation for a year.

Also:

Drinking contests-> dance/karaoke contests -> Bar fights.

Save the Damsel in Distress who ends up being a monster in disguise.

Help someone move to a new house across the street.
(beginner quest that helps you learn picking up items and object related skills.)

Dodgeball.

An event that mocks the idea of GW mounts and involves a NPC's attempt to ride a Centaur.

Events where you have to pick a side in a fight, even though both sides have a legitimate claim to being right.  (Might force Players to take sides against each other in an event.)

Beach volleyball.

nothing particular. i hope for non-combat parts of an event or event chain, because many events we hear about are territorial skirmishes. there is nothing wrong with that, but it could get boring if too many of them follow the same schema: assault, capture and hold, attack next outpost etc, kill evil mob, hold main base...

well i'd love to see some big assault on an enemy base in gw2, but it shouldn't get old too soon. we never really had something like this in gw1, though.

fortunately, anet seem to have a good framework and toolset to add more events in later expansions and content updates before you've seen all live events.

Here is what Id like to see...

While strolling along or standing still ground under your feet shakes and a ground opens up... you fall trough to find yourself in a cave filled with adorable little puppies... who turn out to be Demons, with glowing eyes and everything that will attack you in waves hoping to feast on your tender flesh =)

Seriously tho... pretty much regardless what we come up with, it wont be as good or as well integrated into the game as events Devs (distinguished professions) will.

I think the main problem with such ideas is that players need to log off from time to time. It's very hard to stage a part time war that pauses when you log off and resumes when you log on.

Treasure Hunter:
"A drunken dwarf (or a human, asura, norn, whatever) is in the inn. He's telling stories about a treasure. He gives you clues that you have to follow in order to find a map, a key, a chest... and the fastest players are rewarded. Each week/month a new story could appear somewhere."

Preparing a party:
"A noble is going to celebrate a party and needs some elements which players can look for (beer, wine, meat, fireworks...). He'll give great rewards for these items. It can happen every week/month somewhere."
