As long as the Mystic Forge Stones are just convience, and there isn't any "0.0001%-chance-to-obtain"-stuff in there, I'm fine with it.

Good concept, if executed properly.

I think it's a pretty interesting mechanic and nice way of getting rid of unwanted stuff, sort of like a Nicholas the Traveler who doesn't need very specific items.  What confuses me is how the djinn inside the forge ended up being imprisoned and why it's still willing to give players gifts :P

Dunno, we have Salvage Kits for crafting material. Who knows what will the Forge give.

I wonder if this will affect the prices for salvaged material on the marketplace.

A player with a salvagable item now has two choices when it comes to refining it. You can salvage and then use or sell the materials on the market, or now you can go to a mystic forge and toss it in.

If the mystic forge rewards are better then the profit from salvaging, then salvaged materials will go up in price because there are now less quantity of materials floating around the market, because people are using an alternative method.

Keep in mind the one factor we can't debate yet is the rewards. It could justify the costs (or not)

Rewards or not people love to gamble and this is a gambling mechanic. I for one cant wait to empty my bags and go brone on the mystic slot machine woot lions arch has become vegas

Still likely going to vendor and salvage because I enjoy having surpluses of crafting goods and playing the market. Nevertheless, a good idea implemented for the reasons stated previously on inflation.

I digg. I normally don't go higher than 2-3 alts (although GW2 might change that..) I normally turn my only character into a pack-rat carrying and keeping things "I might need" someday as I always hated dropping things or selling them to a vender for low cash. I was pretty pleased about this. The only thing that is like "oh, rats" is that I'll have to travel to L.A. to do it. Even then that's not to big of a deal as you can easily teleport and use asura portals. So I'm pretty stoked. It will help keep the economy in servers and Tyria up too I believe.

First thought? Fun gold sink. I love that they put it in the middle of LA where a lot of player traffic is. I probably won't use it until I have enough money to not care about it, because as most people now, playing the lottery benefits far less people than it benefits. Still, for people with 50 stacks of *insert GW2 equivalent of ectos*, this is a nice little mechanic.

Definitely will use it until I realize just how quickly I am throwing gold into a bottomless hole with nothing to show of it.

Clearly everybody is design to be a squad leader right?
Squad Leader = Costly
Squad Leaders = paid for by guilds

I hope to play WvW with my guild(s) and I hope we become a presence in that field.  However what about people who are in smaller guilds?

Do squad leaders have to accept anyone who joins?

We could be talking about broken dynamics if things fall the wrong way.

Besides I was thinking more about this weekend than actual release.

Neutral. I'm a crafter so don't see myself using it. Except in the BWE, maybe, I won't be crafting in the BWE.

I loved the "Mystic forge" mechanic in Sword of the New World (Granada espade).

It was basically a well in which people could come and drop the gold. The amount of gold in the well was unknown for players, but once the goal was "capped" the well would return a big summ of it to the player that dropped the gold part that capped it - basically making it a big lottery game. Once a specific gold summ dropped it gave players chest with random item - so they didnt drop the gold for nothing.

Would like if Mystic forge would function like that - accumulate resources and items dropped by players and eventually exploding with christmas gifts for the lucky one.

Not a big fan of this kind of random thing knowing my dice, only ever get crap and a long nose. *boo*  But it could be something to pass the time when I'm done levelling my crafting though :)

If you toss in an Asura wearing full plate out comes a Guild Wars 2 collectable keychain.

I can see it as a good way to get rid of crafted items that accumulate as you level up, assuming those items won't sell on the market for a fair price or to a merchant for a decent amount.

Shove a female human mesmer in wearing high level dungeon armor and get town lingerie. :P

I'll probably toss some vendor trash in and see what happens, then maybe an unneeded blue item to see if the output is better. If not I won't even bother with the thing.

Yep I hope the cash shop item is not a must-have item but more like a critical-chance booster.

You never need to use the mystic forge Black Lion Trading company (gem store) item, nope! You can just throw your extra items in the Mystic Forge and try and get lucky and get something better in return. Think of it almost like a bonus crafting profession of awesome, that everyone gets and can use in Lion's Arch.

I'd suggest you try it out this weekend, it's pretty fun :)

Look forward to seeing you all in game in just a few short days!

meh, travelling to LA just for that .01% you get something great (.5% chance that you even want it).

Another way to keep personal funds low and prevent inflation.

They keep sinking gold like this and WvW is going to be really short on squad leaders.

can you explain what bein a squad leader has to do with how much gold you have?

I'll be curious to know the types of stuff that one can acquire from this.  Also, any idea if this stuff is going to be bind on pick-up?  It seems like it would be more worth it to sell the junk items for coins in order to save up to buy gems (to purchase other store items).

Regardless, i can definitely see it becoming an addiction within an addiction.  ;)
