Yay! http://www.arena.net...weekend-preview  (see under Improved Chat)

I assume they are on a toggle, but I guess we will find that out soon enough.

I am a big fan of chat bubbles... but this made me giddy:

"Players can now take their WvW battle underground in a new “mini dungeon” beneath the central map. This brand-new subterranean level is full of tricks and traps that can be used against enemy players, and is home to the aptly named Dark Room, which players will have to see (or not) to believe."

Beginning of a Darkness Falls type concept?

Actually I like everything on that page.

EDIT: Now I think about it "subtle camera shakes" on top of the fact you couldn't really even see what you were hitting as melee in large scale DE events might get annoying.  They didn't really seem to mention anything about the ability to reduce the seizure inducing fireworks display.

I like chat bubbles, because it's nice to see who is talking without having to look at the chat window. And it just looks more fun. :D

They put in chatbubbles, adapted the local chat and included a zone-wide chat. My (communication-related) dreams have come true!

I like chat bubbles. Then I can keep my eyes on the screen and what's going on while seeing what people say, instead of having to peer at the chat in the corner.

I like the chat bubbles NPC's had, I don't see this an issue with other players. I rather read the screen I focus on then a chat box glancing

I LOVE THIS. Thank you ANET

This is probably going to be my single favorite update ever for guildwars2. it was the only think I thought Anet needed to add to the game since I tried it out last BWE.

I am pretty happy about this. Rather look at the screen and person saying it than a square chat box cluttered with words. Although busy places can get annoying with the chat bubbles, but it also makes it more lively. As long as they are not pure stark white and black clouds things not matching the artsy style of the game kinda how they started out. But of course, this is ANet here, they will do fantastic.

That feature looks useful. You know, in that moments of hard action when you can't move the eyes to the chat window, you can actually SEE people chatting.

Uhg, In the name of all that is holy, PLEASE let these things be toggle-able. Particle effects and missile objects already made Dynamic events and WvW sieges difficult to follow visually. The last thing that needed to be added to colored rings all over the ground, dozens of multi-colored explosions of varying density and players, NPCs and pets darting around (seemingly) randomly was a sea of $%#$%^&% chat bubbles.

Imagine situations with twice as many players as this, all with bubbles of text popping in out...

I love how particle effects were toned down because they were deemed to distracting and obstructive to the action, but then something MORE distracting and obstructive gets added.

This is the WORST ideal i have ever heard of.. if i didnt already purchase the game.... between this and the trait changes... my god... why people would want to see chat bubbles instead of combat ill never know...

now everytime i play GW 2... it will be like unavoidable popup ads in my combat. There had better be a way to turn it off.

Chat bubbles come with an option down in the chat menu to disable them if you so choose, yup!

good now you need to fix the trait tiers... i dont like having trait systems where you are forced to take garbage to get actual usefull stuff..

im not entirely opposed to a tier system.. (would prefer it not being there) but if you are going to put one in... at least make the lower tier traits somewhat usefull.. not a bunch of useless traits like on downed or by falling abilities...

I also think with this new system the weapon specific traits should be removed/changed

I second the removal of weapon specific traits.

I see we have a everything complainer! The game is still in development, why complain about a system (tiered traits or any other addition) you haven't even used yet? Try it, see its flaws, and report your feelings to Anet. You could quit to ;)

I hope there's a way to disable player chat bubbles while keeping the NPC chat bubbles, so we can continue to read the spoken dialogues in the cities and outposts.

Colin, you're awesome.

Preventing GW2 related stress-outs in fans since 2007.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I really like all of the changes, and the Utility skill ones are fine. You get all of them eventually anyway, and it prevents players from being overwhelmed. You can have access to the third tier before level 30 by the way, I did the math based on the screenshot.

It looked like 1 skill point for the first tier, ~3-5 for the second. That means at most, you'll need to spend 20 points to get the third tier. You start getting points so early, and there are plenty of skill challenges so you'll be fine.

Why are so many people crying about Chat Bubbles. I used to worry that I would see them everywhere as-well (in the middle of combat) but honestly, who the hell is going to be chatting in the middle of combat? Especially in GW2 where combat actually needs focus and attention. I really don't think its going to be an issue.

I don't see chat bubbles hurting anything. It will help the game socially and make it much easier to see who is talking in groups. Glad to see them in.
