When I attempt to run Gw2.exe (even as administrator) I get the following error.

*--> Crash <--*
Assertion: compressedBytes <= outputBytes
File: ..\..\..\Services\Compress\CmpApi.cpp(111)
App: Gw2.exe

Build: 14415

With the option to send it to Arenanet. This happens almost instantly when I run it. I already have the large update from the other day and was just running to check it. I'm running Windows 7.

Help would be appreciated thanks!

I am getting the same message when I try and run the client as well. It loaded a minute ago with no issues after patching it while I was at work.

Hahah wow. Good luck trying to fix this one. As soon as you open the launcher my game crashes. Can't fix the problem if you can't update.

Yup! This is the latest crash of the hour. I am sooo glad I paid to play the Beta. :rolleyes:

Anyway, from my limited knowledge of Java (I'm more of a .Net/SAP programmer), the error:

Assertion: compressedBytes <= outputBytes

Refers to errors when uncompressing a compressed file. So basically, it appears some dofus at ArenaNet put up a botched update file that was not "zipped" correctly.

So when the Java code fires to unzip the file, the output bytes don't match up and... BOOM!!! Instant forum nerd rage! :mad:

All we can do is spam ArenaNet with crash log reports and wait until a new update file is released. :(

Wish i read this the thread before deleting my gw2 files. Though as the guy above says.. It would be hard to fix it with a patch since we can't even launch it.

Downloading a new client beckons. Though i'll hang off until arena net say something!

Thank you for your insight so once again this is on their end not ours

I'm having the same issue. I'm thinking perhaps wait until tomorrow and see if it is an issue on there end?
I have a backup client from yesterday which is minus a really tiny update, and it seemed to be after a tiny update this morning that this problem arose. So I'm thinking that they (once again) uploaded a faulty update...

Spam Arenanet with crash logs, tweets, facebook posts and emails until they fix what they broke!

Java? The error is coming from a cpp file. I assume it was C++ unless they are wrapping java in there. And that error, particularly in a conditional check, could come from a trashed pointer or even un-initialized pointer if you have your compiler preferences set to assert on those warnings.

Anways, when you first launch the client and you get the rectangle screen briefly that says "downloading files X" that's where the binaries are coming from that the patcher is using. In this case, whichever binary includes the  CmpApi.cpp is the broken one.

Tomorrow someone will fix it, when you start the client it will download the new dlls, and the patcher will start up as usual.

We have 1 day and 15 hours. Thats quite a lot of time.
There was a similar issue with a download from the client yesterday (multiple in fact I think) but all of them were resolved after a couple of hours.

I strongly suggest that people just wait until tomorrow and then launch the .exe again. Don't go doing anything drastic like redownloading the entire client, you're just wasting your data on something that is most likely a server-side issue and will be fixed.

Yeah, I hadn't been experiencing any of the crash issues that have popped up this week but this one just hit me. Opened up my client to check for an update and it began downloading something, refreshed itself and re-launched, then I started getting the error. It just happens as soon as you open the client.

I won't do anything about re-installing until maybe late afternoon/evening tomorrow. Hopefully they'll fix it by then. All we can really do is wait.
