Hi,

I'm planning on preordering GW2 in order to get access to the beta. The only problem I have is at the moment, they only seem to be offering digital copies. I would much, much prefer to have a physical box when I buy the game. Is there anywhere you can buy the physical game (as opposed to the digital copy) at the moment, so I can get beta access and a physical copy?

Can you buy a digital copy now and they'll send you a physical copy when it's released? Or is there just no way whatsoever to get the game now and also get a physical copy without having to rebuy it at launch?

Depending on where you are, there are certain retailers that will allow you to pre-purchase a physical copy from them.

I got my digital boxed copy in-store from my local EB Games in Vancouver, BC, Canada. But it isn't the actual retail box, as far as I know, nobody knows what the actual retail box looks like. The box I got was a thin plastic box with the GW2 logo in the front, and inside was the prepurchase key.

I prepurchased my copy from game stop (collectors edition) and received a beta invite.  I was in the first beta, and the upcoming on on June 8th.  Hope this helps!

Canada? EBGames.
EU? Not Available (pre-purchases of the standard edition do not exists in EU).

All of the above are the standard edition (comes with a box on launch) and are all pre-order "pre-purchases".

There are pre purchases of the standard editionn in Eu.

Yes and no. You can buy a pre-purchase standard edition in the EU, and you will get a box with a piece of paper in it with the code. But in Europe you will not get a disc on release date... only the Collector's Edition gets a disc on release date.
Or you can wait until release date and buy the European standard edition box with the disc.

At least in North America you get a disc on release date if you pre-purchase the standard edition...

So to clarify, I'm in Europe (UK) to be precise. Is there anyway I can preorder now, get access to beta and also obtain a physical copy of ther game? It seems some people are saying different things.

Just get a digital copy. The physical pre-purchase edition for Europe is a box with a piece of paper inside. And I doubt if you purchase one whether the retailer will manage to deliver it before Monday. If you still want to go for physical check out the list of retailers.

The only way you can get a physical copy of the game in Europe is to buy the CE.

The "standard edition" in Europe is the digital edition that comes with a white DVD case with a code in it that is used to fully activate your account. In comparison, the standard edition everywhere else gets you a code (on a receipt, in an email or in a thin DVD case) now, which will temporarily activate your account, and the standard PC game box with contents and another code on release.

If you really want a box on release, your only possibility, besides the CE, is to wait for release and see what is offered.

Okay thanks, that's pretty disappointing considering some of the awesome boxed releases they had for Guild Wars 1... I guess I'll just buy the digital version...

Not like it matters because it won't have the game on, just a launcher to download it.

Remember that it is pre-purchase that gets you into the beta, not pre-ordering.

Has anyone had luck with Gamestop in recent days?  I went to Gamestop looking to pre-purchase a physical copy of the game.  I paid in full for the game, but the code they gave me was a pre-order code, not allowing me to even register with NCSoft.  Anet assures me that some Gamestop locations still have some pre-purchase codes, as opposed to pre-order codes, but I don't know which ones.  Complicating the matter further, most employees at Gamestop have no idea what the hell i'm talking about.  Any ideas?
