Hey guys I found a pretty cool video on Rangers.. seems to be like this guy found an OP build Check it out

I fail to see what he's talking about by being OP...sure he is providing a lot of buffs and conditons but he's not One Shotting people or stun locking or anything like that, he takes quite awhile to kill anything, which gives players enough time to heal, call friends or get the heck out of dodge.  This seems like the standard spirit build with axe warhorn.  Not at all OP or exploitative.

Dont worry, all weapons are viable.. the longbow damage is still good.. Guess most ppl just prefer not using it.. I never liked the whole "snipe" gameplay thats why i personaly dont use longbow.. But i think its perfect for ppl who wanna stay at range and just nuke

Ive no doubt that longbow is viable, I was just wanting to see some videos about it. I do wonder however if the shortbow still does crappy damage or not. If they upped its damage I could even consider using it myself just so I dont get dodged alot.

This video is a Structured PvP PuG match on the Forest of Nifhel.

Playing a burst build, role i took in this match was harrasing, slowing down and killing enemy players to give my team more freedom to cap points. Build info can be found in this post in another thread:

Just a question. Why do you skill Sharpen "?Blades?"? You got a trait that gives you that at 75% health!

I played a ranger and never got the multishot skill/ability/attack. That a longbow or shortbow attack?
Only got to lvl 27, maybe it was a lvl 80 attack?

There are no "lvl 80 attacks", what are you talking about?

Hey the main reason I took it was just to add a little more damage to my combo as I also have the bleed on crit trait, and I was focusing on using multi-hit attacks it meant I could get pretty reasonable stacks with very little effort, the utility simply let me make the most out of the two traits. In other videos you will see me using a condition removal signet and a stability signet.
I'm thinking in the future of changing that utility up again to "Muddy Terrain" to have another skill which I can use to counter large groups and get the most out of barrage. Frost spirit is also something I want to test out, see how it works with the multi hit attacks.

And another new video just uploaded today:

New vid for you all to over analyze, but first I'll dissect it myself.  This vid is in no way to say "hey look at me I'm awesome" because quite honestly, I felt like I made far more mistakes than anything else.  Just for fun, if you have any questions about the skills/build I used, I am more than happy to answer, I went through quite a few iterations during the weekend as I learned the class and learned what my enemies were doing.

Firstly, I am brand new to video editing.  I literally purchased PowerDirector 10 last night, and then spent about 2 hours putting together these clips from BWE2 and adding transitions, slow effects, and audio.  Sorry about quality, the Fraps clips were pristine so not sure why I lost so much.

As for the video content... The screenshots were filler :)  Just some armor I got from the pvp chests, my highest scoring spvp match (265), build and stats.  I hope you enjoy.

The first fight against the Ele, I completely sucked up.  No idea why I swapped out my lynx, I think it was because the Ele kept moving.  Then I tried to barrage the tornado... I laugh every time I see that.  I also kept missing with my Muddy Terrain and Entangle.  In my opinion I played horribly.

Second fight against the Guardian I feel is the best of the 3.  Muddy Terrain and Entangle worked perfectly.  My lynx started being stupid and not attacking so that's why I swapped pets.  I hit QZ way to early.

Third fight against the Thief is my personal favorite, despite having wasted my muddy terrain and entangle again.  I thought for sure I had lost. :)

I was wondering what the mystery attack "multishot" was and thought maybe its something you could feat for that opens up once you hit lvl 80.

You honestly coulda done much better on all those fights, you didnt even try to kite you just stood there. Thief fight was the closest you ahd to kiting, I think you should kick entangle for RaO, adds speed, stability, damage, you might get better use out of that until they buff entangles health.

If I could dedicate a video to you Spearhawk, I would lol.
I'll give you the fact that I could of done much better.  In my post I stated that I was playing horribly in those fights, but I would suggest you rewatch the vid, because I was never standing still more than a second.  I attempted to kite the thief, but I could not shake em, so despite my attempts I would say it was the worst kiting, the only time I got space was with point blank.

I actually felt Entangle was pretty strong, when it worked correctly.  Quite frequently it seemed to fail entirely, however it did work perfectly against the guardian, as well as the Immobilize at Creation from Muddy Terrain.  RaO would be a much better choice for 1v1, however these were the minority of my fights.  The majority of my matches I ran with a dps guardian, and had I been using RaO, we would not have won as often as we did because RaO does not contribute to the team effort.  Entangle is an excellent control skill, and if the enemy is not paying attention they can be snared for a very long time.  That combined with Muddy Terrain allowed me to snare 3-4 people at a time on several occasions for 10-15 seconds which is a pretty significant amount of time in the middle of a fight.

Totally agree with you,hes fighting one not so skilled mesmer and guardian that is attacking his pet all the time ,and he still fails at delivering quick and merciful end to guardians struggle....

Dont take offense, wasnt trying to be insulting. Was just stating that you could have done better, you seem to know what you're doing but you didnt play to your best, atleast thats how I feel. As for kiting I didnt mean just standing still, I meant you stayed like in the 400 range with most of your fights instead of trying to get more range and that caused you to take alot of unnecessary damage. I do agree that entangle can be good for group control but its so weak atm that 1 aoe destroys the vines, and imo your team would benefiet from RaO more simply because you kill your targets faster and thats 1 less enemy to deal with. Mind you atm entangle is probably fine since alot of newbs dont know to attack it but like you seen in that fight with the thief, he got out of entangle almost instantly. I am selfish tho, I will build my ranger for dps king, not interested in being control or helping the team with my skills. My only goal is to kill my target in the quickest most efficient way possible. Ill help my team through that.

Shortbow IS worth using!  You won't see big numbers like a GS ranger but the pressure and versatility of the SB is hard to beat.  It's a great skirmish weapon with loads of conditions and built in tools to help you kite.  The greatest thing about SB is that you can build for it and make it super strong with condition damage and duration or take it as is and just build up power or crit or go BM for a strong pet and it will still be very strong.

I don't know how many times in sPvP I went up against a LB or GS ranger and lol'd while perma kiting while nickle and diming their health away.  With both LB and GS you have only 1 realy way of escaping if things go bad, with SB you have 3.

To be fair, that 1 way to escape with LB hits for like 3k and knocks back pretty far, but the way you make shortbow sound Id really like to see a video of a skilled shortbow ranger doing good condition damage. Ive never seen a LB ranger lose to a shortbow but its beta so maybe neither were skilled. Everyone says shortbows damage sucks, why do you think or say its good?

You and me both, there hasn't been a good SB video yet.

The problem with people saying SB damage sucks is that it sort of does when compared to LB and GS. I'm not disputing that - SBs power comes from the pressure you can put on people through conditions.  2 sources of bleeds, poisons (to reduce healing) stun to interupt or just creat distance and a short cooldown cripple as well as quick shot that you can use while running away from the bad guys.

Would I like to see the damage numbers for each shot increase on SB?  Yes I would, just so the people with narrow views on what constitutes damage would be satsified by seeing big shiny numbers.  I think increasing conc shots damage would be good so it could be our one spike nuke on the SB.  Otherwise the niche of short bow being our pressure/condition damage weapon seems to do a pretty great job at it.

Against LB all you need to do is keep a mental timer on their knockback shot and either make sure you have End for a dodge (remember slight cast time on KBS), interupt it with conc shot, or have a pet that can disable the ranger long enough for you to pick yourself up and get back in the fight.  Wolf with a knockdown and fear was usually enough for me to get back in their face with the pressure.

SB has it's flaws, no doubt but so does LB, GS and all of the other weapons.  But the theme of the SB, lots of conditions, high mobility, versatile weapon is VERY strong if played right.

LBs only flaw seems to be its arrows being very dodgeable, I agree about your choice in pet good sir, wolves are amazing in both real life and the game. I planned on having a wolf myself, and a bear for defensive purposes. Here is how I look at it, with LB I imagine myself straight up nuking targets like a sniper from a concealed position. Shortbow makes me imagine my ranger flippign and dodging around with agility while getting off quick if not less precise shots meant to wound over kill. I can just imagine dodging around and shooting arrows into a target wittling them down. Its not a bad style and one I could get used to but Id like to see it in action first and used to its fullest before I commit to it.

Sadly every melee ranger seems beant on GS atm, but dont worry, Ive seen older videos of sword/warhorn and sword/dagger and the damage is fine, its not as heavy as GS but its swifter and allows more evasive skills.

I seen a video on the guardian forums that showed him attacking dummies, and then he went to the npc class section and started killing them off. He fought a warrior, killed it easily. Fought a thief next, was killing it easily till thief stealthed and then used that rediculous spinning dagger elite that does insane damage, it hit him twice for a total of 5300 and he used shelter to block it and gained 25 stacks of might, then got hit 2 times after shelter ended for another 5300 before thief died O_o. Then he fought a ranger, and this fight he didnt have shelter but the ranger did 10k+ damage with rapid fire alone, Ive seen a player do 9.3k this last bwe but nothing higher than that.

How high have you guys gotten rapid fire to hit for.

I don't know why but for some reason I think some of the skills NPC use are way out of context of what a player can achieve.

Hey Ranger friends.

I have been putting up tournament matches slowly on my youtube channel

https://www.youtube....25Jbxowg/videos

I'm playing with Team Paradigm now, so for the last BWE we did tournaments all day Sunday.  These were my first experiences in actual tournament play, so you can see as we go on the teamwork gets tighter and I make less sloppy errors, but regardless we won every match pretty handily.  (Also notice the progression of awesomeness in my reward chest gear.)  Eventually I'll get all 21 matches up, there were a few against some decent opponents like Team Legacy.  Feel free to comment the videos or discuss them wherever.  I'm always looking for constructive feedback.

featuring only tournament play i cut together a few clips that showcase the power of both GS and S&D ranger

i personally prefer S&D as the spirits give huge group bonuses but GS is a lot of fun too as it offers great burst potential

long story short here's the vid:
