**Pet Guide & Pet Locations**

How to Tame a Pet

  • You may only tame Juvenile creatures. These creatures will be friendly rather than hostile.
  • In order to tame a new pet, just press your interact keybind (default is F), or just double click on the Juvenile creature.

List of Tameable Pets & their Location

Note : I was short on time and couldn't get to all of the locations during the stress test but I will during the next BWE. This list also includes tameable pets that we do not have access to yet. I'll update it as time goes on. (Assuming a "petopia" type site isn't put up :P)

Red Dot = Pet Location

* = Not available yet / Unknown

Thanks Coldbrew71, Altha for their contribution to the list. :)

Feel free to contribute additional Pet screenshots and/or Pet Locations.

Figures somebody else beat me to it by a couple of hours. :P
(Here's the thread I started, check the list there if anybody wants to)

Well you are more ahead than I was, so I'll just help you out with what info I have I suppose. I'll post some shots that I have some time soon or at least before the next BWE.

Yeah, if you have any screenshots of the one's that I'm missing, that'd be super helpful and I'll add them (& give you credit :P).

I am actually working on a 'petopia' type site for this very reason lol, also trying to have the pets sorted by abilities (Crippling pets, pure damage pets, condtion damage, etc) Once I get a working site I will post it on this thread

The screenshots I currently have are from a distance to the pet itself (so it wouldn't be a great reference image of what something looks like) and also just of the mini-map in the corner of my screen. Since I can't really seem to find any good high-res images of any zone maps I'll probably just take a bunch of zoomed in shots when the next BWE starts in a month and get them posted up here as soon as I can.

I mean, I can snip out the mini-map portion of them that will show the specific spot, but it might not be the most helpful because people will still need to see which particular area of a zone it's in.

If you go to the GW2 wiki and type in the location, they have some high res maps.

I know where some of the others are that you don't have an image for, but I'll need to go and check the specific spots in the next BWE so I don't mark the wrong spot on a map. I know alternate locations to some of those you have listed too, I'll get maps of them later. For now here's a few more you can add on if you'd like.

Red Moa
Plains of Ashford
View Location

Raven
Wayfarer Foothills
View Location

Lashtail AND Whiptail Devourers
Black Citadel
View Location (yes they are both right in that area. I will check it again next BWE to make sure just in case though)

Eagle
Gendarran Fields
View Location

You don't have any of the aquatic pets listed, and stalker is also missing from the terrestrial ones. Maybe some others too.

Hmm, good point! Why didn't I notice that? (about the aquatic ones anyway) :P

Well, I can provide a map for the Shark, Blue Jellyfish, and Armorfish, but the Armorfish needs more than just a map screenshot. It's hidden away at the bottom of the sewers underneath Lions Arch.

Blue Jellyfish
Lion's Arch
View Location

Shark
Kessex Hills (they seem to be in multiple parts of the huge Viathan Lake, but this spot is where I found mine)
View Location

Armorfish
Lion's Arch
A map marker alone isn't the best, just watch this video.

Nice listing, thank you for posting!

Boar
Kryta, Queensdale, Crossing Waypoint
Cross the bridge to the east and follow the road to the right. Climb the first small hill you see in front of you. The juvenile boar is up here.

Black Bear
Ascalon, Plains of Ashford, Adorea Waypoint
North of this waypoint, juvenile bears are scattered among the other black bears.

Also at Charr's Triumph?

Forest Spider
1-3 juvenile Forest Spiders can be found on a plateau with trees/forest along it's edges and an open field in the middle, the plateau is SE of the Eldvin Monastery (Brewery) in Queensdale, Kryta.

Also at Champion's Demense, Borderlands, according to guildmates.

Pig
The juvenile Pig is located in Claypool village (waypoint) in the SW portion of the Queensdale map, the one you escort the ox caravan to. The pig is inside a hog pen next to one of the houses in the walled village.

Also - Farshore Ward, on Ausura Tokk's farm, far SE section of Lion's Arch.
Also - Behind Bard, in Champion's Demense, Borderlands, according to guildmates

Salamander Drake
guildmates have charmed this drake in the Eternal Battlegrounds. Red Shard? Maybe.
I don't have more information.

Swamp Drake
in WvW, Eternal Battlegrounds
Found in eastern portion of swamplands/moat that surround the 'Green Shard' or Lowlands keep/castle, in SW section of map

*Will keep looking for maps to use or screenshot in last BWE.

A map marker alone isn't the best, just watch this video.

Thank you for the link, best video pet guides I've seen so far

My "petopia" site is about 50% of the way complete, the one thing i am sorely lacking is in-game close-ups of many of the pets, and screenshots of map locations, which i would prefer to have over a "go left past the bridge south of Divinity's Reach..." type description. if anyone has these type of pictures please let me know, also if you want to check out the site and let me know of any errors in what I have completed, the site is http://hawk-nest.weebly.com/

Very nice site, Dataeye.
I especially like the broken-out categories of types of pets.
Have only seen that in a spreadsheet until now, and not in nearly as much detail.
I'll pm you with a link to some photos and will try to help.
Would love to see the site updated and maintained over time. Best one I've seen so far.
Again, looks great and very useful, ty for sharing with GW2 players.

Thanks Altha, I was planning on making a list of what catagory each pet was for my own reference, but figured if i was going to go through all the trouble of making a list like that, might as well put it online and let everyone use it :)

I tamed a swamp drake in the eternal battlegrounds in the south east area.

Continue South East and you will get to an area where you can tame a regular wolf.

Yes - a few rangers in our guild have found them in the SW (see map image link above), will have to check the SE, too, thanks very much for the info.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but I didn't see it in the guide or in a search. I see that the pet management allows you to tame 4 pets and select 2 to use in combat. But what happens if you tame a 5th pet. Do you have to sell or dump one of the first 4 or can they be stored in bags or bank? Just wondering because if it's possible, I would find collecting all the tameable pets a fun, personal achievement.

You can tame any and all juvenile animals. Once tamed they go into your pet tab. At anytime, out of combat, you can pick 2 of your terrestrial, amphibious and equatic pets that you can call on in combat. In combat you can swap between your two active pets with a cooldown. Cooldown is increased if you swap a live pet for a dead pet.

So yes, you can "catch 'em all."

for someone new to the franchise, you might want to list the Black Widow, White Raven, Black Moa and Rainbow Jellyfish as...'only found in the Hall of Monuments' or something

i know they are not 'tameable' per se, but someone new might see someone with one, and come looking to find out where to tame it

just a thought :)

Dataeye's Hawk Nest 'petopia' site does just that, there is a HoM category.

During the final BWE coming up I will probably take some time to do just that. I'll get the best close-up screenshots I can of every pet I can, get more specific map locations of juveniles, and do my best to write up some short descriptions of what to look for, etc.

I'll be scouring the Asura and Sylvari areas for new ones too.

The site looks great by the way! This will be a big help for new Ranger players who want to collect everything.

Thanks! I will be doing that a little bit myself, but i wont be able to play much this next BWE and I have some other things I want to do when I can play. If possible I want to eventually get a zoomed in map for each pet with the location marked, and I will take all these and also make a world/zone map with all the pet locations on it so you can just search by zone if wanted

Thanks for all your support guys :)

Good Idea, the individual pets said what races can pick them on there pages, but it would be good to have a page of links. Adding this today
