I already have my money worth, I think.  I already had a blast playing those 2 BWE's and stress tests, and the fun is yet to really start!

I'll also buy gems from the gem store and maybe some other merchandise if there is something I like.

If i'm still playing after a few months with minimal gem spending, then i'll be closer to my monies worth. If i'm still playing when expansions are released, of course i'll be in line for them (figuratively speaking).

Time spent isn't the important reason.  It's the amount of fun I had (which does translate somewhat in time spent, as the more fun I have, the more time I'll spend).

The sad reality is, I'm not exactly sure.

I've spent (and in the process of spending) hundreds and hundreds of dollars upgrading my computer. Sure this isn't just guild wars 2, but but about 90% of the reason I decided to do this was for guild wars 2. I have BF3, Skyrim ect.. But guild wars 2...I know I'll be playing it for years, and I know it will be my game of choice, so I want it to be enjoyable I don't want to play laggily ( yes I invented a word) on low settings for years, I want a pc that can max this game out. Unfortunately my PC right now, is from '06. So i had to get a new case, HDD, mobo, cpu, optical drive ect ect... this is a very long and hard process especially being 14 years old, money is hard to come by - and I won't have my complete rig until december. :/

But all in all I'll have my moneys worth in 1-6 months, leaning around 4 months. Only because of the money I spent on my upgrades, I know this is entirely my choice but I did it FOR guild wars 2, therefore if I don't enjoy guild wars 2 ( god forbid) it will be a waste of money, since the only other game I play seriously is TF2, and it doesn't require much.

When the game is deilvered to my doorstep and I can successfully log in and play then I will have gotten my money's worth. It's simple, if I pay for something then I expect to receive it in a timely manner. Whether or not it is a mind-blowingly awesome game that exceeds my expectations is irrelevant since I have already taken an educated guess on what the quality of the game will be based on past experience and present information.

If this game holds my attention for a couple of months or more, then I've gotten my money's worth. I liked what I saw during the BWEs, but that was a small part of the game. I have to see the rest of it to decide if this game was truly worth it. I probably won't buy any gems. If I play for a long time, I'll definitely buy the expansions.

With normal, singleplayer games I find I have my money's worth if it has a great replayability or if I play for about a month.
For FPS multiplayer games I find I have my money's worth if I still play the game 1-6 months later. And this is for €40  games.

Considering it's an mmo and I already enjoyed 2 weekends and 2 evenings with the game, I will feel I have my money's worth after about 3-4 months. I'm looking forward to the expansions and I voted I will buy them, but honestly it depends on how much time I will have at the time and the price.

Hmm, I should've added an option in the second poll for people who have spent money on Guild Wars 1 just for the sake of HoM rewards. I would think that counts as additional costs. Of course it wouldn't count for GW1 vets who played the game since before the HoM reveal, and only for the sake of playing the game.

Anyway, right now I'm pretty confident GW2 will go down as a great purchase for me in the long run. Personally I voted for the 6-12 months option because I expect to re-evaluate around the time expansions come out. In addition to the cost of the game, I built a new PC, maintain a Mumble server (not strictly for GW2), plan to buy gems, plan to buy expansions.

I suppose the cost of the novels could also be counted if people read them just to enrich their understanding of GW2's story.

I voted "if the game is what anet sold it to be" because it's the closest i could find. What i mean though is if the game is what i saw during the bwes (with less bugs obviously): other zones and races have to be the same quality of the rest which i have little doubt about.

I didnt vote the buy gems option cause i'm not sure about it yet there is a 30-40% chance i will, depending how my golds will flow in the long run.

Spent about €100 on GW1 and lasted me about 2500 days of fun.
Will spend about €100-150 on GW2 and I hope to get the same amount of fun out of it.

To be honest, I think I have already got my money's worth, since I have played GW2 for 25 hours in 2 weekends, which is close to my 30 hours on Battlefield 3, which has been out for over 8 months now. I can see myself playing a ton of GW2 and I will be buying all expansions and spending money on the gem store.

I dropped over 40 hours in the game and have not even scratched the surface. I played multiple professions and got as high as level 20, and yet to play an Asura as my main. Played wvw for 20 mins and never entered a spvp match. I played with the market, figured out multiple crafting professions and only played in 2 human zones. This all has more been like a giant tutorial for me.

I bought the standard edition , bought a razer naga and a new 24'' monitor. I will drop about 20-40$ in gems at the start and maybe just buy cosmetic items that look really silly on an asura.

So would I say I had my moneys worth? Yes because I bought it back in april and already have recovered my spendings long ago. If I dont buy gems I feel like I am playing a free game. I spent $40 in movie tickets to take people to see a 1h 40min movie. The base $60 for a game for 100's of hours of fun feels like a steal.

Just a question for the people that are calling others out as fanboys:

What I paid for the game is roughly equivalent to what I would pay to go to a live performance or a day cruise or whatever. It would keep me entertained for several hours and I would consider it money well spent. Now I have spent the same amount on a game that has literally kept me entertained for several days. Why does feeling like I have already gotten my money's worth make me a fanboy?

I'm not exactly bulking with money so for me 55 euros is something I actually can't really miss. Moving abroad in 3 days and, as some of you may know, that's not cheap. So for me to feel I haven't wasted it, I want to enjoy the game for a long time.

I also voted for, I will buy the expansions, however that only goes if I still enjoy the game when the first expansion gets released ofcourse.

i think the game was actually worth my money. See, it is just a game, not a car or something that has to last 15 years.
I paid 60 bucks for that. I have paid much more money for a dinner with my friends that lasted only a few hours. I paid much more money for the train ticket to visit my friend for a weekend. I also spent 60 bucks for alcool about 4 weeks ago. Festival tickets are not cheap also, and give me access to one funny weekend (that wasn't fun, because it was rainy...).


I have to admit, i bought the standard edition. I have my HOM points, so i can get bonus stuff. Also i will pay for gems at some point after release, if i think it is worth additional money, but i will decide that later. See, i don't know whether or not this game will be enjoyable for the next 6 months or even years. This depends also on me. My life has changed since i was 16, in school and lived in a village where there was nothing to do. Now, i am 24, live in a big city, go to the university, have a job besides that that keeps me occupied during the weekends and most evenings. Also i have many friends and people around me who keep me occupied during my free time. I can not say if there is ANY game that will keep me playing for such a long time.

I hope i will enjoy GW2 for quite a long time. If this is the case, i will probalby upgrade my account at some point (lets say 6 months after release). This means that i will buy gems and spend them for
- bank space (to the max)
- inventory bag slots (to the max)
- and 1 additional character slot.

In comparison to most single player games lately, I got my moneys worth already back in playtime from the BWEs.
In reality I will feel satisfied some time after release and think all other games are overpriced...

As for the additional costs, the cash shop doesn't appeal to me. I'm not into dyes, minis and town stuff. I won't use boosts, don't like gamble and probably don't have time to play more than the 5 char slots. So the only thing I might buy are bank tabs and I'm pretty confident I'll be able to buy them via gold to gem trading in the TP.

Just a few thoughts about this.

I don't get why people spent money on it if they are so unsure if they would enjoy it or not.  I'm talking about the people who say the game is so bad and they are sorry they bought it.  Did they just see a trailer and say "omg gonna buy!!"  If I was completely unsure of GW2 I would have never put any money on it at all.  Yes, I know their is a level of unknown with this only being beta.  My point is that from doing research about the game such as watching vids, reading about it and all that you can decide if it's worth spending money on.

I think 1-6 months is long for today's standards, but I do believe GW2 will go past that.  I think part of what will make GW2 have longevity isn't just the leveling, it's the interactivity with other players and the world.  It's on a different level than say WoW, you actually need to depend on eachother in many PvE events and you can't really piggyback off of someone more skilled than you.
Speaking of WoW, we shouldn't compare this to it because WoW locks ppl in with subscriptions.  If you wanted to drop out of WoW yet you aleady paid a monthly fee you can but you will have wasted money on a month.  Trust me, I have done this before and realized I couldn't play because of work schedule changes.

Most games last only a few months in terms of holding the average gamer's attention.  Now considering their is no sub fee for GW2, it's even more prominent that this is important because people can back out any time.   Look at games like Tera and Aeon, sure you may say they are bad examples but after the initial release rush the fanbase started to vanish.  Will GW suffer that same fate? I don't think so because I already notice the fanbase for GW2 is a lot more stable.

I voted exactly that, wanna know why? Games now-a-days that I buy for the standard price last for a very short period of time due to them being rushed or just lacking good content. I pre-ordered this game and have played though the two beta events and the stress tests, seeing the improvements between those and knowing that it'll get better for the official release, I'm happy with what I've paid for, knowing that this game will outlast any other I've paid for speaking value for money wise.

Like you with gw1, I'll most likely be playing this game for many years to come, and knowing that with the current builds, I feel I have my money's worth

I would say I already have my money's worth. With thousands of hours of playtime still to come, this is possibly the cheapest hobby and best investment ever for entertainment and fun.

I paid for the Collectors Edition, I bought a new computer (mainly for GW2, but not solely).
I know I will be playing for a few years to come (I played GW1 for 5 years, around 12k hours...). So I already know I get my money's worth. I ticked "1-6 month after launch". But I also thought about "already got my money's worth". But I didn't want that just because of the amount of moey I am putting will put into this game (gems for character slots, bag slots etc.).
To be fair, I already played around 100 hours in the beta and stresstest, so that's worth a lot compared to other bad decisions in games ;D

Once I move on to GuildWars 3. As until I move on to GW3, I will more than likely still be spending money on GW2, hence always increasing the number which makes up the total amount of "your money's worth".

I was just honest with the amount of time I usually play a new game (about a month) in order to "get my money's worth".


The reason why this is so hard, most people here are planning to play this game for 5+ years...  but obviously the "money's worth" part will come much sooner.

That's why I think so many people say "they have already gotten their money's worth"...  they know they are going to be playing this game for years already.

If a game cost 60 Euro then everything above 60 hours means it was worth it. (but planning to play this for A LOT longer )

From the boxed product - 14 hours of gameplay is what I demand from any game. If it offers any less, I consider it a bad investment, if it's any more, I consider it well spent money.

Considering that I expect atleast a few hundred hours of gameplay from this game, I am not worried.

Already played ~100 hours. Behemoth 6 man group was a spectacular battle that I have forgotten to have the same epic feeling in any MMO or RPG in general. So I can say I got monies worth but my most played game has hit to 2000 mark GW2 if as good will do the same.

Seeing as I've already spend about 70 hours playing during the betas and stress tests, I can safely say those 55 euros were well spent. As for the second poll, I do plan on buying the expansions provided Anet doesn't change their core philosophies. In the upgrades department, I've upgraded my computer in March.

The game has more to offer than virtually all (if not all) subscription based MMOs so unless you are going to put the game down within the first month then it is going to be impossible for anyone not to get their money's worth out of the game.

The game won't be perfect but I have no doubt that it will be good enough to keep me entertained for a long long time. I'm going to be spending quite a bit of cash in the gem store in order to finance future development and support of the game. It can only get better with time.
