Don't put so much stock into what other people play, you shouldn't play something simply because it ups the chance of you being a snowflake. Slyvari are a race that is closely related to nature and Rangers are a class that is closely related to nature, it's a natural (har har) fit.

Sylvari Ranger here! The reason I chose to be a Sylvari Ranger is simply that I liked Sylvari in the GW books. My intentions was to have a Sylvari Necromancer, but decided to switch to Ranger after playing the betas. I do think that Human will be a heavily played class as well though. As much as people like playing the odd classes, players also enjoy playing toons that resembe themselves.

My ranger will most likely be a norn or a human. Initially I thought that I'd have my mesmer and elementalist as sylvari, thief, necromancer and guardian as asura, ranger as norn, warrior and engineer as human. I won't have any charr characters.

My main will be a human thief, but I plan to make a male sylvari warrior; bark armor looks badass! I could not care less if a bunch of people are playing the same race and class as me. Dyes and transmutation stones will help you make a character that stands out from others.

I'm going to join the ranks of the Charr rangers, unless I have some kind of huge revelation during the next BWE that I absolutely hate playing ranger.
In a few months or years down the line I might do a second ranger, this time a Sylvari one but this would be at the very least my ninth character so I have a lot of time before me.

That's actually really unique, I was thinking Sylvari Engineer would be the most unplayed combo but now that I think of it, Sylvari Guardian never even crossed my mind.

Pick the race/class combo that you want, and ignore what everyone else is gonna play/say. If you really wanna play a Sylvari Ranger, you'd be stupid to let other people affect your choice. Just go with it.

I plan to make a charr ranger and probably a sylvari necro or thief.  Hopefully the players that choose to do the same won't get their panties in a bunch and make a thread about how several others picked the same combos.  

The reality is that there are 8 professions, 5 races, and A LOT of players.  There will be a lot of people running around with the same combos.  More than half of them probably plan to dye their armor black.  So original.  Get over it and try to enjoy the game!

In any case, it really shouldn't matter what other people are going to role to be honest. At the end of the day, you're going to be playing how you want to play, so why should it matter what others decide to play?

Also, my sylvari is going to be a guardian! It's been that way since we were calling the guardian "Blue Mace Lady!"

ALright to be clear , I was EXAGGERATING. Not EVERY ranger will be sylvari. I know that not even half will be. But there will be a LOT.

Also, im saying sylvari will be most popular for rangers, not necessarily that rangers will be overly popular for sylvari, although I'm guessing they will be in the lead.

I'm also not changing my main from a sylvari ranger.

I'm also not telling people who want one to change.

I can understand  why they would like to do that because the ranger is the "one with nature" profession...

I'll be playing a Sylvari Necromancer, which I hear is pretty popular. I'd much prefer if I was a special snowflake and most people didn't want to play Sylvari, but no one elses decision will affect mine! The sylvari just have such awesome lore and aesthetics that no other race can compare!

I was originally planning on a sylvari ranger back when the game was announced (5 years ago now?) even before rangers were confirmed. After seeing the sylvari concept I'm leaning towards a charr now. I really like how the charr turned out and I really dislike the way sylvari seem to lack in masculinity. The british accents also grate on me. Depending on how muscular I can make my sylvari and the customisation options I'm might end up going charr.

It shouldn't matter what other people do when creating a character, you're the one who has to play and look at it all the time.

I was wanting to make a charr ranger, actually. But I disliked the pet mechanics when I played ranger in the beta. The pet died too often to the point where I felt like I was babysitting more than anything else. And there was limited functionality. So I will not be making a ranger unless they improve the class. I will be keeping my eye open though.


My Sylvari is my main and I'm not sure what class I am rolling. But it will probably be elementalist, mesmer, or thief.

When i intended on playing a ranger i was going to roll Sylvari for the reason that it fits in with a "ranger" more than say, a Norn.

That said, most PvP players will pick Sylvari for their "entangling roots" type racial Elite. A root will be INCREDIBLY useful for a Ranger (opens up the ability to take a different Ranger elite, or stack roots).

They are loosely based on Arthurian values and culture, so yes it is a general rule. Knights of the round table and all.
