School year is almost over, wow. Cant believe how fast time is moving this year---especially with the crazy weather, one day its almost 80 and then next its in the 40's....and rain (good thing I got my herbs planted right before this last ark building weather, so I didnt have to water them).

We made it folks. Wasn't sure we would but here we are. First day of summer break! Though it doesn't feel like it. Far too cool out for the first day of summer. 60's and rain for the next week. Crazy! Ready for some warm weather!

That has become the norm due to us starting at the beginning of August or early middle August so we get out earlier unless we use emergency days. Which we didn't again this year, so out at the end of May. Of course it is different for each state. I have cousins in North Carolina who don't get out till Mid-June. That would be no fun at all...

Haven't had much rain as of late actually. Supposed to get more this weekend so we will see.

Been having fun with power issues. Past few weeks we have had random power outages to half our house. Usually the power would just kick back on after flicking off a few times but this past Saturday morning (2am) it went off and stayed off. I had to go take out the main fuses for it to turn back on. Did it again at 7:30am on Saturday and then again Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. Finally got a hold of ComEd (who I had called about ti Friday morning but they never sent anyone out) and reported our outage. Someone was out in 30 minutes to fix it. Turns out when they put our "smart" meter in they jostled a connection which caused it to become loose and thus not work. The tech also told us that the wires in our riser pipe going to our meter are pretty well dry-rotted (installed probably in 1957). So now we have to have an electrician come out to replace those and I think we will be switching the old fuse box over to a circuit breaker. On top of all that the washer isn't work. I do love living in a home! :)

lol comed. We have a LOT of the same issues here, glad my 40+ year old washing machine is still working nicely (helps that we arent daily clothes washing types, and its a HUGE XL capacity washer from when my mom had a family of 8 to wash for), cant wait until they want to come and clean out the dryer vent again (first time they did this in the 30+ years we have owned the condo and it was clean, why would it now after only 2 years need to be cleaned again???? Me'thinks the new dryers just dont remove the stuff as well as the old ones did, gee go figure.) Still would like to have my own single family house instead of having to deal with the idiotic rules and regulations they have here (and am not looking for a house in a place that has those kind of rules either--no hoa for me, no golf courses, no newly built plastic houses!)

sorry havent posted much, have been sick--am improving, but will take a while to get back to 100%

and now its June and in the 90's. bleh, allergies have been bothering me too ...but to be expected with all of the pollen, grass, mold, etc in the air now. And the dill died, cant figure out how we cant keep a weed alive (the basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, chives, etc are all doing well...just the dang dill)...ah oh well, if thats the worst thing that happens this summer I can take it.

Ya not a big fan of them but not much I can do in my current situation. Maybe once we actually own our own house I can put solar panels on to mitigate some of the electricity we need. Lord knows I would be making tons of energy right now in this sunny 90 degree weather.

So with the whole electrician thing... Long story short, the guy we were referred too is terrible at communication. He did come out and look and told me he would call me with a quote. That was over a week ago. Haven't heard back. Luckily we have another guy we know who has offered to do it for about half the cost of what the other guy had mentioned. So we will see when all of this gets done.

We did opt to go out and buy a new washer as this one appears to have a bad control board. That would be a $260 or so repair. So we went out and bought a new model that should last us for a while, plus now we get to take the washer AND dryer (which we didn't buy) with us when we eventually move out. So we essentially got a washer and dryer for the price of a washer.

Car issues are persisting with mine. Air is not working and it sounds like it is the compressor. Going to get it looked at sometime this week... If it is a compressor than no air for me as that is a $1000 repair on a car worth maybe 3-4k.

Sorry to hear you have been under the weather. Definitely no fun.

Allergens are out like crazy right now. My wife went and saw a doctor to get tested for what allergies she might have. Turns out anything outside she is allergic too... Going back this week for the food test. So could have a change in diet coming... Woo...

lol, pwnd...those are probably 2 of the longest posts you've written! I can remember when you wrote that 2 lines was too long to read.

Glad something worked out from all of that. Had car a/c issues too, but hope it was just a lack of coolant (the techs found no leaks so they just added more).

Not very sunny now...been raining for the last few days, herbs like it; hope it gets rid of some of the pollen thats in the air. Food allergies are the worst, you can never tell if something like that is in something you have eaten.....good luck with that!

lol I know, I was thinking the same thing as I was typing it. Lots going on though so I guess thus the long post.

Had the car looked at and sadly my diagnosis was correct. It is in fact the compressor failing. PepBoys quoted a new compressor at $1,400. I told them I'd have to think about it (aka nope). I called another mechanic that I have gone to for years, granted one who is down where I used to live, and he quoted me at $950. So now we decided, new to us car or repair? My uncle might have one of two cars up for sale, either a 2010 Mazda Tribute or a 2015 Mazda CX-5. I'm kind of sitting at if getting one of those doesn't work out than I'll fix the Civic. I hate car buying. Looking is fun, car buying from dealers is not.

Sunny the past few days and than lots of rain yesterday afternoon through this morning. Now it has cleared up again, for now. Supposed to rain again tonight.

Wife found out she really isn't too allergic to food, not enough to deter her from eating somethings. So that is a plus.

yeah, food allergies are (sorry for the pun) nothing to sneeze at...I have none of them either (though I DID test positive for the peanut one, which is strange since I eat peanut butter and reece all the time with no ill effects).

Not a fan of car buying either...havent done it in ....17 years and hope to not have to do it anytime in the future either! (though I have a brother who is a car salesman so that would help, if he were still close by---he moved a few years ago to portland) You could just, not have a/c, pretend its 1950 again and it has yet to be put in cars (and only then, drive that car in the winter when a/c is unnecessary :P)

I guess as we get older, writing more is just something that...happens.

My wife is slightly allergic to peanuts and she does have issues when she eats peanut butter, so it made sense.

So that was the original plan actually was to just say no ac in that car since I drive it. Problem is that the ac compressor and clutch are part of the serpentine belt, which is always spinning when the car is on. So if the clutch locks up or fails then it affects the entire serpentine belt, which would cause a lot of problems. So basically it is either get rid of the car and buy a new one or fix it. We can't leave it be... :(

Might wanna look up Oral Allergy Syndrome. My allergies are bad enough that I have the same thing. It's not a food allergy, but a cluster reaction to things that are close to what you're actually allergic too.

Also I haven't posted in this thread in forever.

Huh, hadn't heard of that before. The specialist didn't mention that and she doesn't have hay fever I don't think so I don't know if it is that. But I'm not a doctor so it totally could be.

Correct sir, you have not posted in here in forever. How the heck have ya been?

had never heard of that before either...and I have tons of allergies.

they seriously combine the a/c with another system, what engineer thought that was a good idea????

and yeah, pwnd and I have had this forum to ourselves for sometime...nice to see some others posting (yes, its not the pwnd and cosy show here--ANYONE can post here!)

Things are roughly the same for me. Work, try not to die during allergy season, work more.

I started playing bass a little while back, which has been a nice stress reliever. Still haven't figured out how to relax very well though.

It is a Honda so I guess the Japanese? I'm not sure how they are on other cars as I've never had this issue before. Might be the norm but who knows...

Relaxing is actually hard... There is always some stress in life and no way to really relax since stress likes to nag... If someone figures out a way to relax without the stresses nagging at you they could make a ton of moeny.

I never had compressor issues with my Toyota so I never looked into it. Serpentine belts generally cover everything so I guess it is quite possible that is a thing on all cars? Who knows.

Relaxing is nice, you should try it sometime.

every time I get around to 'relaxing' something majorly BAD happens....so its better for me (and just about anyone I know) to just avoid it.

cars are just getting tooo messed up, I remember when you could do most of the fixing on your car yourself, now you cant even change the tires (because of the dammmn pneumatic thingys they use to tighten them...whoa to the traveler who doesnt have an air compressor to remove those lugs!)

Seems to happen from time to time but you relax enough and all the things that could go wrong have. Then you have some relaxing time. :P

Cars are definitely harder to work on yourself now-in-days. Of course a/c stuff I wouldn't work on myself as that is a system under pressure and you have to recapture all of the coolant in regards to environmental guidelines. Tire stuff though, that is what a breaker bar is for. I have one in both cars so that in case we have to change a flat we can get the darn lugs off.
