We have the same problem here sometimes. Though this was a very mild summer...

Yea, luckily this summer wasn't awful. They're saying we won't get much snow this winter, either. But when we don't get snow we usually get -30F weather and freezing rain, which is much worse than snow and kills the power lines much more efficiently.

Everything I have been hearing has been predicting that we will get pounded with snow this year. What is your source because I want that instead.

If you think about it, North America is basically trying to kill humanity. It doesn't like being lived on. Asia gets hit by more natural disasters just by size but the US is # 2 on the natural disaster list. Our land hates us. Or really it hates our stuff. They hit Asia more, but they hit us harder.

The east coast gets smashed by hurricanes yearly and has these wonderful ice storms (no northerners, when we get winter weather that locks down our cities it isn't because of snow). The north gets blizzards and, as we have seen recently, every once and a while a hurricane swings by to say "screw you guys." The central states practically have standing tornadoes and dust storms. The west coast is trying to fall off the continental shelf. The deep south gets insane heat waves and the further south you go on the continent the closer you get to "Montezuma's Revenge."

AMERICA! The land that actively tries to kill you monthly.

Also, the land of the tornado. You haven't seen a tornado till you have seen an American tornado. Strongest, most badass tornadoes in the world. (fact)

Meanwhile I sit in the rhine valley where nothing dangerous ever happens, not even floods and we have a temperate climate all year long, in recent years even during the winter. *sips soft drink*

I am one that like global warming and would not dislike less snow. I can't say that I have ever experienced a flood, really bad storm that would be even close to a tornado etc. I have experienced rarely blizzards, but generally not dangerous if you have lots of clothes and don't get lost. Finally people in the northern Europe are used to it and I can proudly say my country is not dependent on Russia natural gas. That is one reason I am for nuclear power stations. I want that every country should be self sufficient regarding energy well as much as possible at least.

Of course you would like global warming as you don't have to deal with it's problems up in the north. I'm on the other hand less than pleased that the potentially deadly tiger mosquitoes from asia are starting to migrate into my home area. As if normal mosquitoes weren't annoyning enough.

Besides I have to admit I miss the old winters with 80cm of snow and more for several weeks. Nowadays it's barely 10cm for maybe 1-2 weeks in the entire winter.

Tornadoes man. My boss is from Denmark and when we were out in Texas recently he was all "I hope we see a tornado!" Everyone from the states was staring at him like he was a moron. It was actually pretty amusing when he saw his first real dirt devil and though a tornado was starting.

Had a tornado come through here (Raleigh NC) a few years ago and we don't really get them much at all. Sirens went off, everyone's cell phone started screaming, and suddenly hail. Tornado sirens are creepy man. Always makes me think of Silent Hill.

Seriously I HATE winter. Someone asked what COMPUTER game do you play currently? Well NOTHING! I enjoy warm(for Septemeber weather it is warm) weather though mornings tend to get cold already.

Oh I do play games but since warm weather not computer games. I play board games like 7 Wonders with Leaders expansion and the worlds most popular(and expensive I believe) card collection game Magic The Gathering.

Mosquitoes? That is not my expertise, but I think they are more a threat in tropical zones like Thailand, Philippines and the list goes on and they like warm and wet. Germany climate is still far from that and no you don't have so much rainy, moisture as Tropical environment.

There is substance vs Malaria and that or tigers are not the worst threat in Asia that I want to visit in 2015.

Seriously we have had 2-3 harsh winters in row now... I could use a real MILD winter like when people talked a lot about global warming. Global warming.

I would be more worried that there EXIST some theories that climate change might also be the cause of extreme weather. You can have warmth record in summer and still very cold winter weather. Finally everyone does not live in safe Germany. USA might face the "perfect storm" and if that comes it is horrible. However I would nor loose my sleep over this. There are so many theories, but I am convince global warming exist and Finland had its warmth record in the recent years.

Have you heard Chicago's tornado sirens? Eerie as all get out. They are nothing to joke around about, that is for sure. We would have all looked at him like he was an idiot as well for wanting to see one. I don't ever want to see one again. Screw that.

Weird. Wonder why they have a different siren than everyone else. Most places just use the air raid siren seeing as "get yo ass underground" is the response to both.

I think it has to do with the range of sound it hits. People may hear higher or lower frequencies better, plus it is not something you hear normally so it makes you take notice.

I wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't already a problem over here. The rhine valley actually has subtropical climate during the summer months in recent years, no joke. The area is very swampy due to the rhine not going in a straight line but actually making curves. They made it artificially straight in the 19th century, but the old river bends still remain as wetlands with very calm water. Perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes I can tell you.
And those asian mosquitos that are starting to breed here, often carry stuff like malaria and west nile virus. So far there has been no reported case of any of those diseases being transmitted, but I'd say it's only a matter of time. Luckily we are prepared for it.

That said I know it's probably one of the safest places on earth I life in and I'm glad that's the case because I don't plan to move anywhere else. I really wouldn't want to trade the beautiful and peaceful scenery, the great infrastructure, the countless historical sights or the kind hearted people for anything, not even a great job offer.

Work bought me a pretty awesome jacket to wear for the winter, speaking of cold weather. I don't even mind that it has the company logo on it since it's so nice. Fleece liner zips out and can be a jacket by itself.

It needs to get cold and stay cold soon.

I think someone mentioned cookies.....sorry takes time for messages to get to me here---we are building that arc since we have had 3x the amount of rain we normally get in one year, one of the coldest years on record, one of the snowiest years on record, one of the coldest high temperatures in september recorded here....lots of records going on this year and we have a few more months to add to all of that (gee pwnd do we really want more snow????)

was in Finland in April, have a friend who lives just north of Helsinki, she mentioned that they had had so little snow that she wasnt able to do her favorite winter activity: cross country skiiiiiiing (hope I got enough 'i's in that)....I said we should have sent some of ours to her.

Dont mind to cooler temps, didnt really care we had only a few days in the 90s and none over 100....not a fan of below 0 (f) temps and snow past my waist.

oh and my village (we arent even a town :( ) has....a McD (the burgerking closed), a few gas stations and a grocery store, oh yes, and a starbucks....thats all you get for 23K people (and tons of them are old folks too--got 2 retirement communities, one behind us and the other down the street--at least they are usually quiet neighbors!)

and the food talk: made fajitas for dinner with homemade salsa and homemade guacamole

I just have to get from my apartment to my car and then from my car to the school to stay warm. So I have a nice fleece too. But I had to buy it myself... :(

Has been cooler here. Then today, 80's. What?

So you're not one of those people that runs out to the car to turn it on and run the heater then run back in the house so it's ready when you leave?

Good.

Aha ok I did not know about the situation in Rhine valley... keep hopes up that the Germans do not do same thing what happened in Florida USA. In Florida USA Pythons are more or less a problem but that problem originally started with import of Pythons. Pythons generally do not eat adults since they can not swallow them(unless really huge Python) but domestic animals and children could be eaten and there cases where adults have been killed but not eaten. Anyway result of Python death is rare. Anacondas have even wider mouth so they might easier swallow an adult human.

Germany is without doubt nice I have met many Germany tourists during my travel and generally I have liked the Germans.

I hate so much the winter so I took totally break from playing computer games during summer. Now this weekend I have started playing Neverwinter MMO again after more then 4 months break.

Hell no, with gas over $3 a gallon I'm not leaving my car running longer than I have too. Plus my car has heated seats. So there's that.
