As opposed to giving the traditional noob island, in Guild Wars Prophesies we had presearing which I thought was a very cool approach to providing isolating a starter zone for the game....

In the trailer there is a bit where we see a time lapsed animation of the new capital city of Divinity Reach (we know it's divinity reach from the official labeling on concept art), we see the city take shape over what appears to be 50-100 years as a city within a city is built.... Could this animation be part of a cut scene that bridges a player from one time to another?

We have no way of knowing, but it adds another question to my list "will there be a presSearing like area in GW2"

I could see them doing a "presearing" if they had some kind of event to make the world change, maybe some kind of invasion by the dragons minions?

Seeing also as it a new and different game it would make sense to have an area like pre to ease into, I just hope if your more experinced you would be able skip some stuff and just get into the  game....

I'm pretty sure that what you're describing is just the transition from the animated concept art to the game engine rendering.

Its just the concept art transition. It stays the same throughout the entire clip.

Would be strange if it takes 50-100 years to get off Pre-searing status, don't you reccon >_>. Other then that I indeed believe they're going to do a starter area unique to every one of the 4 races.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.

Anyways, all 5 races have different starting areas, so I doubt that ANet are going to make 5 pre-searing like areas. I'd say they'll be similar to Shing Jea/Istan.

They stated that there will be different starting areas for each race. However, it's 5, not 4. :p

Disagree.  Content you can't access later is bad.

Well, not really. Pre searing in Prophecies is actually still very active, it's like a completely different mini game. I enjoy playing my warrior I have there when I want to get away from the horrible community the rest of GW has.

I'd still rather not have a pre searing like area in GW2, though.

If there would be pre-searing before dragons invaded you wouldn't live 250 years later...

I think they should have a tutorial area, where you briefly experience what happened in those 250 years, or at least a cinematic. If not, then say, if you are human and you are "born" in Divinity's Reach- there would be a special academy for new recruits (aka in GW1 Ascalon Academy (presearing))

I preferred Nightfall's tutorial much more than the Prophecies tutorial. Proph became so redundant that I would cringe at the thought of making a new proph char because I would have to through pre-searing all over again. I think there should be a more quick transition from the tutorial to the actual game.

think logicly for a few moments...
you already said yourself a city taking shape for 50-100 years, i do realy doubt the heroes in the story gonna have a 50-100 years skip.
and the trailer doesnt proof anything yet as with all trailers not everything gonna be ingame....

I dont think there will be a Pre-Searing in GW2.

Probably just every race starting in a different location.

We have a winner. What you're describing is this and only this.

I liked the Pre-Searing community, but I feel tortured whenever I have to make a Tyrian PvE character. I wouldn't want to relive that in GW2. If I was ever to feel nostalgic while playing, I'll hop onto one of my OGW characters.

Exactly and you wouldn't want to have a completely messed up time line would you.

As per every other multi-race persistent MMO ever made. :P

Time-lapsed tutorial areas wouldn't make any sense in a persistent world, honestly. You have to remember that GW1 was totally instanced, so it was possible and convenient and made sense. The only things instanced in GW2 are going to be missions and dungeons.

I agree I think you will see the different races have different starting points

maybe a different 'pre' for each race and they all come together in a central location after an 'event'???

What I would really enjoy would not be the likes of Shing-Jea or Kamadan. I'd like to see play every Race/Prof with a fully develloped build in key events from the 250 year gap like the rise of Orr, retreating after losing a key battle, the creation of the "new" LA, Sylvari first contact... you get the point. Then you progress to character-creation and since you have "tested" each char/race can make an informed decision. You could skip it after having done it once.

Maybe they could make ''pre-searings'' in homelands of races, like a training or somthing...

I don't like the idea of having an area and never being able to come back to it. That was the problem with pre-Searing.

Maybe in an expansion we can time travel to pre searing to witness some events that are currently unknown to us.

It also fits with the concept class that was never released, the Chronomancer.

I hope there are little cutscenes and cinematics for when you start, describing what has happened and why you're there!  Well...we all know why we're there!
