I've been searching trying to find out if ANet has any recent information on their GW2 Extended Experience mobile phone app. Last article that I located was from Nov '11.  If anyone has seen anything on it please share.

Anet made no announcement and gave no words about this any time recently. All the information about it that you will find will be old stuff. My best guess is that it's one of those things that never made the cut. OR it's something that had be pushed back for an array of reasons.

I think that they said enough about the app that it's probably still being talked about, but like Bourne said: it's just a lower priority. With their game launching in a month, after however many years it ended up being in development, they have a lot of stuff to do. The main "console" that their game will be on (for now) takes waaay higher priority than a bonus bit.

But, ArenaNet/NCsoft has actually had a job listing available for a while now for a Mobile Developer, so it may just be a lack of personnel certified to handle it - although I'm genuinely not sure if that's the case or not.

Q: When you say “mobile,” what exactly does that mean?
Q: I don’t have a smart phone; will we have the same functionality on the web?
Q: Does this mean I can play Guild Wars 2 on an iPad?
Q: All this social stuff sounds cool, but what if I don’t want my guild messaging me at work?
A: Initially, we will be offering applications that will run on iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Android smart phones.
A: Yes, we will provide similar functionality for web users.
A: Well, I’ll never say never. :) However, the iPad is certainly not the same caliber of gaming machine as a PC…yet. Having said that, there are certainly aspects of gameplay, not far from the experience on the PC, that a mobile user might be able to enjoy.
A: Rest assured, we will not be doing anything that allows personal or private information to be shared, and we will provide functionality that allows you to determine who can contact you and when.

There are still 4 weeks until the official release, they might just be holding back an announcement of the app to fill a gap in the info stream between now and the release date.

Just a warning, I have seen a Mobile App appearing on Android Store that apparently gives you access to Chat and people are already reporting getting accounts locked during Beta's so make sure that you only go for the ArenaNet App when it is released

I doubt that they'll have it ready for release. I think, once the problems that arise from launch are fixed, a few months have passed, they'll start working on it.

In the job section they're hiring for a person to develope mobile apps. My guess is that they havn't been able to find someone up to the task yet.

Especially a few months for guilds to start to form, so there would be a reason for them to introduce an app centered around guilds.

I think it's important to be released right from the start. If it's as integral to the experience as they say, it needs to be considered as soon as players start in on the game for maximum impact. Otherwise I fear it will always feel like an afterthought, especially after they built it up so prominently.

I'll be pretty disappointed if it isn't available at launch time.

I don't think they ever said it was integral. It's called "extended experience" for a reason. It's extra stuff

Yeah I don't think we'll get it at release. I reckon this would be one of the things coming in at the end of the year. Not like it matters anyway! Guilds need to form and stuff, more important things to worry about!

A mobile app would be likely be developed by a separate team. This could mean that the app could be near completion, or even completely ready. With the BWE's taking centre stage (rightly so), any news of a mobile app would be held back to fill the gap before release.

Windows phone didn't exist when they announced the mobile apps. Neither did Android tablets, which is why they aren't mentioned either. I think the reason we haven't seen or heard anything is because it's just not the focus right now. Getting the actual game out is the focus. Plus I do think we will see a simultaneous mobile app release for ipad/iphone/android phones and tablets/windows 8 phones and tablets as well as have the functionality of those apps work in a browser. That's a lot of work when their focus is elsewhere.

I am hoping them mention something about the app before release. Let us know when it will be ready.

Apparently Arena.net has finally come out and answered the question.  There is no name associated with the interview, but they do answer the question.  Check out the full interview here.

But the specific Q/A is

Q: I was pretty excited about the announcement of the Mobile and Web Apps, from the blog post it seemed like a much more complex project than your traditional MMO Companion App. Will the Apps be ready for launch day?

A: For launch we won’t have any GW2 apps available for use for players. However, soon after launch we’ll be launching a robust app development program in conjunction with our community that should allow for the development of some truly spectacular GW2 app and website development. We’ll discuss this more post ship, right now we’re focused on making the release of the game the greatest it can be.
