Once you use a dye, you have access to it in your dye page indefinitely. So I think that's perfectly reasonable.

right -- i was thinking more of giving the dye to your alts or selling it -- and i wasnt trying to say its unreasonable, just that the stuff you gather will be needed and worth some money -- i plan on making regular gathering routes for some of the more used items -- a robust economy is great for any mmo

Indeed it is.
I think I'm going to start precluding all my posts with "I'm not saying anything about you or what you know, but."
I figured that since we're still in Beta and forums are generally for the sake of information, it's good to supply it where possible. A lot of people don't know how the dye system works, so I figured I'd throw it out there since it was relevant to what you said. Everyone here takes it personally.
I should have precluded this with the same thing, you didn't get as defensive, or offensive, as most people seem to.
I also probably should have left out the unreasonable part as that did sound like I was assuming your intention from your post, but it was more of a "I saw a lot of people complaining about the huge numbers they saw for those recipes lately, so I'll go ahead and say it" thing.
Here's to keeping the economy strong (and hoping there aren't people with lots of money buying tons of gold through gems to unbalance it in their favor).

Those dyes are uncommon dyes from the spectrum of the color labeled, therefore red would cover red, pink, vermillion, etc, yellow covering yellow, goldenrod, jasmine, and etc. for the other colors you can make unidentified for. and those dyes were what made me think, "if i want to change crafting disciplines do i lose all knowledge on that character like wow?"

No, you still keep everything you have gained through each crafting profession. But you can only have 2 active crafts at any one time, the only hindrance there's a silver/gold fee (which will depend on the level the craft) attached to switching between the professions.
