I guess I get so perplexed when able-bodied players, who can often complete some types of content way faster than I can, start whining about skills that don't interfere with their ability to do things. Stop being jealous babies and get a mesmer friend or do the jump.

Yes, it is fair.

You are the one factor that is unfair in this example.
You feel in constant competition with the players around you. You get so green with envy that you can't stand the idea that somewhere someone struggles less than you because he chose to play the game differently by playing another profession than you. You feel like he should not be able to do something you can't, even though that is the sole purpose of different professions. They do different things differently, to increase choice and diversity and consequently fun. Instead of learning to jump better you want to cripple someone elses experience.
How is that fair?

And where does it end? Should all professions use the same weapons and skills to make battles fairer? Otherwise someone else could be able to kill the boss faster than you, run faster than you, have more health and armor than you and look better than you.

The PvE game is a NOT a competition. YOU make it one in your head. Don't try to change the playing experience for all of us because you can't control your emotions.
What the hell are you talking about, guy?

Read the thread. I'm the Mesmer and Engineer feeling guilty, not the one feeling jealous.Your whole hyperbole is also nonsense.

I'm so confused, why does it matter? It's just a jumping puzzle and it doesn't make the entire thing easier.

What I'm really wondering is why isn't thief shadowstep (Infiltrator's arrow for example) working :(

I believe they call it "Class diversity".

I'm sure there'll be other aspects of the game where some classes have an "easier" time of it.

Just look at Melee vs Range/AoE if you want a great example.

The classes can't and shouldn't be identical in ability to each other.   They'll have strengths and weaknesses.  This is as it should be :)

Just make those and other skills work like Blink in PvE, shouldn't be hard to code.

ArenaNet should do the exact opposite and make blink/shadowstep type skills work like jump shot.

This would also be acceptable. The only reason I can think that it isn't already like this is because A) it would be too hard to code or... B ) it would open up bugs/glitches where people were teleporting into areas you aren't supposed to be able to teleport into.

It seems like right now the game just checks if it is possible to walk to a location before teleporting you there, and if it isn't possible the teleport fails (except for mesmer portal). This is why the blink spells fail to teleport over gaps. Engineer's jump shot doesn't ever make the engineer disappear from the physics engine, so if he runs into a wall or something he can't go through then we will just fall like normal from the air. Mesmer's portal doesn't have to check because the mesmer has to actually get to both location A and B in order to set up the portals, ensuring they aren't used to access an inaccessible area.

While I feel it would be best if teleports could cross gaps (it would be better even in the general game, not just for jumping puzzles), I'm not sure if the programming time or other resources it would take to implement this is worth it (otherwise why didn't Anet make it like this already?).

Easy fix, don't take away the ability's just give similar one's to all the other professions.

Amusingly good idea. This would also open opportunity for more intricate jumping puzzle that require these abilities.

Oh Jesus in Heaven, how embarrassing. You are a good person for pointing that out, thank you. Don't cuss though, that is not polite.

I have zero plans to play and engineer or mesmer, and these skills don't bother me in the least. I fail to see what the big deal is.

Seriously some ppl need to QQ less and enjoy their own chosen professions. No, my main isn't an engineer or mesmer (it's an ele), so my ride the lightning isn't too reliable as it's easy to go over, but should I start whining about an ability another profession has? give me a break; this is just a game in the end.

IRL people who have certain skills are better at some posts while others are better at other jobs. If you want that ability, just create a character who is one of them. Also this isn't the main focus of the game, so taking an extra minute to complete an non-core task isn't the end of the world. If you keep falling off a cliff it might be that you're simply doing it wrong, regardless of profession.

If you then come crying that you want it while still being another class... then sorry but all I have left to say is 'grow up'.

That's how ANet made the classes distinct and each has a unique flavor. if all do the same things with differently-named skills it'd be boring as hell.
