I can confirm that these 'when killed/shattered' traits did not trigger from overwriting. I did extensive testing on golems with it. I use these traits in pretty much all builds I try to make.

Perhaps they only trigger from certain clones.
I tested the staff #2 clone. The "on death" cripple did apply when the clone was overwritten.

Well I've tested the Sword and Scepter clones in BWE3 and the stress test (one each), so that leaves Greatsword clones ... I don't see why the clones from that one weapon wouldn't operate the same.

I could see why Scepter wouldn't apply these traits on re-summoning, considering they are one-weapon clone factories.

Shame that they don't, though. Would give Scepter a great niche.

I think you misread what i said (my fault) so let me clarify ...

If you overwrite your scepter clones, the one that is overwritten (i.e. dies) does activate clone-on-death traits. This was the same with sword clones when I tested it with them.

Apparently, Hahn tested it with Staff clones to the same effect, they do trigger.

Reviewed video from last Thursday's stress test. This was with a scepter:

Thanks for the post, Hahn.
It does a good job of highlightning that with these traits you can change scepter's auto-attack from simple (generates a clone) to generates a clone while making another clone die applying X conditions in an AOE around it.

Interesting.. I see the potential but.. Dunno. Be decent for PvE, maybe, but I think people may be moving around a bit much to rely on this for any real effect in PvP.

True enough. I will be the first to admit that I found the clone-on-death traits most effective against melee opponents.
  • They are trying to be in your face so it is trivial to get clones in their face regardless of the weapon you're using
  • Their melee attacks innately cleave so they very easily cleave illusions resulting in conditions in their face
After that I found it more effective to use sword clones than other clones due to them constantly being in your opponent's face.

The least effective use was ranged clones versus ranged opponents but there were plenty of times we'd be at close to medium range and that made the clone-on-death still useful.
