I plan on maining a Charr. They are no more evil than humans or any other race. Everyone of them has their own dark past whether it revolves around experimenting on others, revenge, war or corruption. ;)

Doesn't really matter if the community likes Charr. The devs like Charr, so we'll get that special loving.

It is odd, that most charr and most tengu were hostile towards my characters, yet my opinion of the charr and tengu are so different. I'd love to play a tengu (don't ask me why, I don't know myself) and didn't think I'd play a charr at all. Then guess what was the first character name to just pop into my head one day....a name most fitting of a charr. (sigh) So now I'm planning on a charr thief, my least liked profession with least licked race. Could be that the tengu never bombed my character's home town. Or turned a sweet little girl into a crazy woman. (Why Keiran wants to marry Gwen is beyond me.)

I have a lore fitting tengu name just in case. Course I'd like a new profession to go with the new race (I have no idea what's left to add though).

The way charrs run and the story they get is pretty neat.

But i found the asura cooler.

My Charr Ranger looks pretty badass...don't know about you guys.

Charr were my favorite race in GW1, and they will be in GW2. Plus I'm naturally attracted to beast races in all my video games. Humans-types bore me. That's why I'll stick to Asura and Charr (outside of my 1 human GW1 character remake).

Plus I really liked the Charr storyline so far. Much better than the others IMO.

I actually have a human main, but that doesn't say I don't love my alternate charr. I have two of every race planned except for norn and sylvari.

I tried a Charr in BWE2 & BWE3, but just couldn't get into it.

I will be going with a Sylvari, Asuran and Norn as my top 3 and if I roll a 4th it will be human.

One of things that anet fckd up abit is that they didnt release asura and sylvari in first BWE, for me and imo for everyone who played since the first BWE asura and sylvari will feel a bit more special than other races.

I think that the Charr as a race is unique and well designed. The reason why it is the only race which I won't (most likely) play is that I rather play as a humanoid than as a big, hairy beast. I know that some people want to have their characters as big as possible; one of my friends is a fan of that.

I guess that it comes down to what I think that looks cool. I don't necessarily think that big, monstrous characters are very cool as I am rather a fan of agility and intelligence (even if it has nothing to do with the in game preformance). I think that I can look cooler if my  character is more recognizeable and less muscly, due to which I will neither create norn male characters. I also dislike the look of most heavy armour in all games due to this mindset. I know that some people think completely differently than me, though.

Personally, I love the charr. I knew back in 2009 when I watched videos GW2 put out and they said you could play as one, that I would be one. I always loved the charr in the original guild wars, and always identified with them. They were pushed off their land by human expansion, then the humans were surprised when they pushed back? Puh-leese. Cart your broken behind across the shiverpeaks, you lost like punks, Ascalon is for the CHARR!  ;)

I just don't like playing humans, human-like races (ie norn, or in other mmos, elves, dwarves, etc), because it feels boring. I'm a human in real life, I play fantasy to not be myself. And in all mmos, I like finding the biggest most ferocious thing to play. In GW2, the charr are for me.

That's ok if everyone else wants to play a human, more food for me. ;)

Charr are a little more original than your traditional fantasy races. Humans, "elves", and "gnomes" are the most popular right now because they're the most familiar.

I have two planned for every race except charr and asura. Could always change my mind and make second asura instead of norn or human but I don't see myself playing a second charr. Nope.

I really loved the Charr attitude and personal story and general look. But unfortunately I hated how the armor I found looked on them :/

According to a poll from right after BWE3, which can be found here: http://www.guildwars...our-first-race/

Charr are the least popular race. That surprised me. I see a lot of norn hate around here, and every fantasy rpg forum has people who complain that humans are too mundane for their tastes. So I was wondering:

Are the charr really that unpopular? Or was it just the hype that had yet to die down after new races were released, or was it something else that skewed things in a less-than-accurate manner?

Personally, I really liked the sylvari and asura that weekend, but as time went on, I decided that I wanted to have my main be a charr after all.
Give back Ascalon! You thieves!

They've screwed up the running animation, gear and compared to the other zones the Charr starting area is very narrow. I also didn't like the limitation of face choices. As a slave though the Charr would be awesome.

i think they are awesome, will i make one a main??? probably not due to all the other races being so awesome aswell. issue is they were introduced so early so now everyone is buzzing over the asura and sylvaria making any pol biased really. i HATED the asura and had no intent of making one thought they were stupid little gnomes lol. but then i made an asura thief and loved their animations and how cool they looked as a thief.

so far, asura:thief, charr:engineer, sylvaria:ranger, norn:guardian. are my choices.

Any poll that I have seen, not just that one has resulted in the Norn and Charr lagging behind.

For me my least favourite changes between the Norn and the Charr pretty often. I don't dislike them, their characters just don't appeal to me as much as the other three races.

I suppose it's possible that (even if they didn't play gw1) that the Charr feel like the bad guys and people don't want to play them as a result because they think they're going to be ripping off the heads of innocents or something. Also their military attitude might be pretty polarizing.

I'm still making one though since I plan to make one of every race, so maybe things will change when I play their personal story.

Charr adventurers are gods.
Charr soldiers have crappy animations compared to the norn.
Charr scholars have shitty armours.

I'll admit that I've become less than amused with the way that much of the armors look on charr.

As a race and a culture though, I have much more appreciation for them than either the norn or sylvari.

I'm making a character for every race and playing them equally, but if for some reason I was allowed only one character, then that would be a charr.
I love animalic creatures, and more importantly, they were the enemy of GW1: and since I started playing GW1 I dreamed of playing as a charr. Now I can! :D

That poll asks what our first race will be, not what our favorite race is :P I LOVE the charr (and will be making three of them) but I dont want my main(first) character to be one as I still love to play dress up with female human/norn armor, it just doesn't look as sexy on a kitty.

Can't speak for others, but I can see why charr and norn are the least popular. Norn's have fairly awful animations, especially males. Also, while this is probably a positive for some, the fact that they are humongous in comparison to the other races is probably a turn off as well. Charr... I'm actually surprised they came in lower than norn. I think they're pretty aesthetically cool except for the fact that, again, they are a "big race", which may be a con for people. I'm not a fan of them running on all fours when not in combat, though. Asura animations are amazing and they're aesthetically pleasing. Human's are, well, humans, so they'll always be popular. Sylvari are unique and amazing aesthetically. Not shocked with the results.

I'll probably main either a Charr or a Norn. I love the heavy, ugly and battered look of Charr heavy armor. Love the starting area too and the lore.

My main will be a char I think they are awesome and bring a lot to Guild Wars 2 as far as immersion.  The Armors are great in the heavy section in the medium section I think they  need to tweak them a bit.  I think they made the armor a bit too bulky in the medium department needs to be more "form fitting" to the CHarr's Physique.   Which will probably prompt people to not choose a medium armored charr.  It's strange how looks and armor sometimes keep avatars of certain games down on population wise.  Like in Warhammer Online the elves were very unpopular because of their looks.  I would recommend ANET to tweak the medium armor a bit but other than that the CHARR are awesome my Charr ranger rocks can't wait to level him up :)

I'm torn between a charr and a norn :x. I voted norn because I just changed my mind xD. I expect I'll do that a couple of times before the headstart.

Charr are really cool, I like their pragmatic way of life, discipline, and loyalty. The armors could be better but charr was my first thought back in 2009. I love the running animation, horns and Rytlock.

Oh and Pyre Fierceshot ^^

I want to play a Charr but most of the armour I've seen looks terrible on them. Their running animation feels strange, I mean, why run on all fours if it doesn't make you any faster, it just looks ridiculous to me. Also I want to do jumping puzzles and having a Charr switch between two different running stances will make me mis-time my jumps (happened in bwe).

Like many other people I dislike how most armor looks on charr.

Heavy armor looks decent though and since I'm rolling all professions on day one, I will make a charr warrior.

Plenty of Charr love over here.

I think Charr suffer from a meh model, though. They're all hunched over and it looks like they wear skirts... and armor looks kinda messy on them.
