Just like the title says. I don't see anyone talking about Dagger/Focus builds really and my friends who are elementalists are pretty much going Dagger/Dagger or Staff. Am I missing something?

I really like the condition removal skill and the 4 second invulnerability skill under Earth Attunement. I haven't used the Projectile invulnerability skills much but i think they would have their purpose. Also there are Chills, Knockdowns, Flame walls and flame shields as Focus skills that I think are really fun to use.

Is there any reason why I don't see people talking about this combo that I am missing?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

not as much burst as d/d or s/d...i think that build is not a burst build, more like...idk between dmg and defence

It seems like a balanced choice.

As we hear every time from the developers "Guild Wars 2: Play it your Way"

If that's what you enjoy, go ahead. I just think that Focus should be paired with Scepter, but play what you want :P

I just really like the way the Dagger plays in main hand. I enjoy using those skills a lot. I think the off hand Focus gives me some more versatility and possibly survivability while having to stay in close range for dagger. I will have to see how it goes as I level up. I will most likely be using each weapon at some point over my Elementalists life. Thanks for replies.

For solo PvE'ing, I really enjoyed this combo as well! It definitely has that tanky, in-your-face feel to it. It was really great for confined spaces that brought you up against multiple mobs.

Yes! I played this combo as a newb ele and I could solo any Veteran without a problem, not to mention multi enemies. You can daze them, reflect them, absorb stuff, cause bleeding, vulnerability, then change to fire and nuke the sh!t out of them all, while having Fire Shield on xD.
Then if it's a really long fight use Shock Aura to stay at distance, then use some Utilities to spice it up.
I just love this combo. And yes, what ANET said: GW2: Play it YOUR way.

Most of the time my choices in Traits are weird for some people but I'm happy that I took some time to figure out a build and not just copy paste from Build Generators.

I've been running around with a pair of daggers all throughout BWE3 and the 2nd Stress test, but I'll be looking to test out D+F when the game goes live as I'd like to go for a build that can dish out decent damage (non-burst) while having good survivability.

I just wish the Fire Attunement of Focus wasn't so underwhelming. Really? Fiery Aura? 5th skill? :|

Eldaran:

Focus offhand is like having 2 extra Cantrips at half the cooldown (even better with the -20% recharge Trait)
I haven't been testing many defensive builds; for the moment I've just wanted to get a benchmark of what Ele can do if you go full power
(Reason being it's always easier to scale back than forward)

Dagger Mainhand has strong Fire/Water, but really bad Earth/Air
Focus will make up for Earth, but I feel like air will only be used by you when you go to revive / stomp someone

Obviously I'd have to see the full build before I could comment further

Fire Aura really does a lot of damage against multi foes,I never killed foes 1 by 1 but dealing damage to multi at once. That's the only way to survive since some can really dish out big damage, especially if you're an underlevel in a higher lvl content (talking about lvl 10's in lvl 14-15 content where aggroing more then 1 monster can be fatal. I didn't have any problems with Fire Aura being the 5th one tbh

Lightning Whip is the highest damaging auto attack that the elementalist has (remember, it hits twice in one whip). And Shocking Aura is really good.

Earth you mainly use for the immobilize.

the way i see it, your only 'real' dmg skill would be burning speed, and nothing to add more dmg rly, all the rest would be more for defence but they are in high CDs, your enemy might have the time to down you because you didn't burst fast enough or don't have as much real self support staff would give you once your CDs are down. Try it, i could be wrong. not like i played..QQ YOU LUCKY BASTRDS!!

but if you get all 3 fire lines hit the enemy isn't it better than lightning whip?
