I noticed the starter item/armor piece you get while picking your profession are pretty unique looking. Thieves get headbands and hoods, Guardians get spaulders,  Mesmers get cool masks, so on and so forth.

Though I have a habit in other games of trashing my starter clothing once I get some decent drops, I caught myself wanting to do the same thing in GW2 untill I had a look of the other armor sets in game and realized, whoa, I better bank this unique looking hood and maybe transmute it down the road, because nothing else really looks like it.

How many of you will be banking your unique starter item and perhaps mix and matching it up with other gear and armor sets down the road as you get higher level? Especially once you unlock more dye colors people could become creative and make a unique look using the transmutation stones. Anet did a great job making nice looking armor even at low levels.

So what’s your plan? Bank the armor or trash it?

totally banking the profession unique starter pieces, who knows if there are any more just like them. The rest of the set I could care less, I have HoM armor for that

I don't think I was in love with my Sylvari Elementalist starting armor but I will definitely have to take all this into consideration now since this game has the transmutation feature. Good topic to discuss.

My male human elementalist armour is nothing special, though I'm going to make a female necro as well, and her starter armour is pretty awesome!

My 'starting' armor will be heritage anyway :D I may keep any particularly cool unique starter parts though.

If you want to check if your computer will run GW2, check here.

If you find out you can't and need to think about upgrading or building another, check here.

I'll keep my profession hats just in case there isn't another way to get the same skin later.

Can you transmutate items which are soulbound to other characters? I tried to give my necromancer's face paint to my mesmer, but it didn't work. I guess there's always the possibility I didn't use the transmutation stone properly...

Depends on the profession.  Some I will save some I will just let go.  The necro mask I love and a few others here and there.

I'll keep the profession-specific piece(mesmer mask, necro face-paint, etc...), but I won't be saving the rest of it. It's fugly, and can be re-acquired from other sources in the game. :)

What? On all the characters I've played seriously so far, I've found the starter armor dropping from enemies. Even class specific items.

Edit, now that I think about it, don't remember finding any of the other class specific items, though...

It depends on how the HOM armors look like on my main.  I might junk the starter armor if the one from HOM is better.  So we will see.

The Ranger starter armor felt kinda 'meh' on my female Sylvari, so I'll probably overwrite it with my heritage armor. The Guardian starter armor had a pretty cool set of shoulders you could choose (with the glowing symbol) so I'll probably keep those :)

i'll definitely keep my mesmer's mask.

their masks always reminded me of the scorpion clan from the legend of the five rings rpg / ccg.

The "normal" starter class armor like the spaulders, helmets or hoods weren't soulbound, at least not in the beta. Maybe the face paint is something special?

Vendors all over the place sell basic gear that has the same skin as the beginner gear but for level 5s or 10s or something.

I'll be banking my thief personal story hood. That's for sure.

We are talking about the stuff you get from personal story, from the first question, I think.

That thief hood is definitely hard to come by. All I ever saw in-game were masks. I ended up transmuting the stats from a mask onto my hood.

I doubt I'll stick with them...

In particular I'm not fond of the mask that Thieves get, or the gem that elementalists get. I don't really like things that obscure my characters face.

Hoods and hats I can deal with somewhat, but masks or floating gems are a big turn off.

I'll see what the armor from the HoM from GW1 looks like actually on a body then decide.

Might just keep the eyepatch or lenses from Engineer. Might use them to transmute later on... The rest, I'll make a bonfire with it :D

I really liked the female elementalist start armor in the BWE's, but I wonder if they will change them for launch? I remember months ago, the  starter armors were different, more plain, and the armors would change (for humans) depending on whether they were a street rat, commoner or noble.

One of my friends was using a mesmer mask on another class like warrior, so i guess there's no point in banking it, unless you fill up all 5 of your character slots and can't create a new one to get the item.

I wish my Ranger could have a skirt like the Mesmer instead of the all the stupid-looking cloak-dresses that Medium armor has.

I am considering waiting to make classes that start off with potentially unique stuff like Engineer and Thief until after all armour is known. I know you can get some of it again later (engineer monocle) in which case I would then choose (and bank) something I had no way of getting later.

i would like to be able to trash it, meaning that there should be a possibility to acquire it again after i've thrown it away.

i don't see any reason why it should be starters unique gear, that would only makes it for the player more problematic.
