We have had this thing I call "border-less windows" for a long time.

Now, I never play GW1 so don't judge me if that's how it has been.

I find the Black Borders in GW2 distracting and messy.

I mean I feel like I'm playing in a wonky resolution, usually we try NOT

to have any black borders at all cost, so I dunno.

And they especially don't look good in videos and pictures.

I don't have any black borders , maybe it's just you're settings?

I've not really paid attention to it at all, and it didn't bother me when I was playing as I usually focus towards the center of the screen. However now that you mention it, I went to check some videos and I must say that I do not really see the purpose of it either.

I'm just afraid that now you mentioned it, it will be like "Once you see it, it can't be unseen"...

I don't quite get what you are going on about.
The only "black borders" I've seen are on loading screens with the concept art.

I only saw it when my fiancé pointed it out, i liked it. Its an extra effect going towards the painted aesthetic they wanted i guess. I don't notice it at all though to be honest.

It's build-in, it's not something with the resolution or settings.

I also dislike that, i hope they add an option to disable it and allow us to zoom out the camera more.

o.0 what the hell...

I have never noticed that before! i've played in the past two BWE's and the past three stress tests, and i've only just now seen this?
weird...

Anyway, i think they are kinda nice, it goes very well with the artistic style of the entire game. It's like your screen is just one painting of many in the gallery of Guild Wars 2.

It would be nice if the borders were optional.

But I don't really think it messes up the feel of the game. The game looks a lot like a watercolor painting in many ways. It's amazingly beautiful artwork. The border is sort of like a little frame around the painting.

Doesn't bother me. The only thing that somewhat bothers me is when the screen gets all flashy because I have a certain effect on me. I like the effects, just not all the time. I'd like to be able to toggle them off every once in awhile.

They don't bother me at all. The effect is so slight I find it hard to believe that anyone can find them intrusive, but I guess different things bother and irritate different people.

I agree, on both points.

I also like the borders! In my opinion it adds to the artistic feeling of the game.  Though I can see how it might bother some people. Maybe ANET will make it optional? (Don't remove the border though! I like it.)

That isn't just a border, it is also an indicator.  It turns red for combat.  Not sure in what situations though.

When I'm hurt they get higher and red, and when I'm down too. x_x In those cases they are distracting, but I don't notice them while playing normally. I like them tho. (Except when I'm down)

I've noticed it, I say leave them in! The black bars on the side feel completely useless but I guess they tried without them and it looked strange having only borders on top and bottm, I don't know, just guessing.

It doesn't bother me one bit as I am too busy focusing on the action, in- or close the center of the screen.

It adds to the artistic feel to it, its beautiful....
It does not bother me at all either, infact I love the look.
I guess it would be nice though to have a option I guess to disable it though, ^_^ for people who dont like it.
But really its such a small thing, I say get used to it.

I noticed the borders during the first BWE and I dislike them.  They're distracting.  I wish there was an option to hide them.

although I really do not notice them, I thought the borders were to indicate your current status/effect in-game

so, I would suppose black would indicate everything is fine and dandy  :)

I love the borders, they give the game a incredible amount of character. It's like they're the frame for an ever moving concept art painting.
