We are a very large community that not only runs a Guild Wars 2 guild but an outside community as well. As such we wanted to make a gesture of goodwill to those on Jade Quarry by making the Facebook page we had made for Sorrow's Furnace, which had received a good reception.

If you only have the first impressions from the thread below to go off of, you can see that we were greeted with the opposite.

We feel as though we shouldn't have to be "allowed" into a community(especially for a game that has not released yet) but accepted as part of the growing whole.

As such, we have decided to re-think our guilds home.

We wish everyone good luck on this server and look forward to hopefully getting a chance to fight with swords and magic rather than snap judgement and lashing tongues.

We did indeed. Turns out we decided to move along with a bunch of our allies. Sooooo decided to follow suit and make sure Jade Quarry got the same love

Did you do any research at all when picking JQ ? We already have an established community. You are more than welcome to join us obviously but before you start plopping down social media community sites etc maybe you should know what has already been established.

I don't see anything wrong with them adding a facebook page to the list of connections for the server.

This page is for the server itself to all go to if they please. It will have updates of PvP videos, PvE videos, Machinima/artsy videos, podcasts etc all originating from Jade Quarry.

Well, it's very nice of Tr1age to set up a Facebook page for JQ, and he does contribute quite a bit for GW2 with all the work he's done with his podcast and videos.  Seems pretty cool.

On the other end, some folks may be a bit "protective" with the JQ community site and things that are going on there... in the sense that many people have put a lot of work into it... and then to find a JQ Facebook page pop up from someone who was formerly listed as Sorrow's Furnace and had created the SF FB page, it might "seem" a bit suspiscious.  Also, JQ players may not recognize Tr1age... a lot of times our forum names are different than character names... etc. etc. and may not recognize players or guilds.

I'm sure it's a misunderstanding.

Server moves right now are common as things are shifting around left and right... we also don't know if more servers will open up.  Whole alliances are shifting servers, look at Ascension Alliance and FUBAR... so this isn't something that is uncommon and players are looking for places to call home.  JQ players should feel at least somewhat honored that folks are checking out their server and community.  I think a lot of the hard work put into the community, both in game and out of game has contributed to our server rep on some level.  We may not win every match up or whatever, but our players seem to be pretty tight with each other.

I did however, in PM, let Tr1age know of some of my "personal" concerns with server populations.... not only at launch but also with queues.  I think the queues for WvW are currently busted... but we are facing them.  Not bad now, but many of the JQers aren't even in game yet... so I'm not sure if JQ would be a good choice for guilds/alliances to consider... considering JQ has one of the higher guild counts on that one website tracking servers.  This was one of the concerns of some of the players... what would happen if we announced a server... like as a group of guilds or even as JLA... would tons of players from the forums (not saying Tr1age and his group) bandwagon and jump onto JQ.... and fill the pop up fast?  It's one of the consequences JQ is facing... since we did just that without changing servers... like some other alliances (with good reason to, so I'm not faulting them at all or looking down on them).   For some of us, it was just too rough jumping all over the place... we'd confuse our friends, our guildmates, what not.

Regardless... apologies Tr1age if the JQ community site people (myself included) are coming across in an unfriendly manner.  Again, I think for the FB page... it was just folks being protective of what was already built prior to the FB page.

By my count there were 3 servers in BWE3 that didn't hit full and even in stress tests when I looked. There is no bad place for a guild or guilds to move to or from. I personally have had little issues with queues for WvW and have even seen "Outmanned" sometimes. I'm not worried at all about people flocking to JQ even if we do have a large alliance and the Relic community.

To me this sounds like he is offering for any community and guild leaders higher access to the fan page, I'm guessing for moderation and posting privileges.  That way its more of a community page and not "our guild owns the Facebook page"

The issue wasn't the good will gesture.  The issue some people might have had was the unilateral decision to bypass currently established communities to create another.  I think the gesture is a great thing.  I do also think though, being new kids on the block, they should have popped in and shown their unity by saying at least hello to the current community and then posed their idea.

Appreciate the posts. And trust me we are trying to find "Home" as much as the next guy. We thought we had it with Sorrow's Furnace but when the Latin Alliance moved to our server we realized how difficult communication was going to be with the people around us and decided we had to go. They are a HUGE force. And even though we are multi cultured guild wise, we all speak english as our native language.

We are a community who is working on our own stuff as well. http://alttabme.com is not looking to go crazy with alliances and that stuff until we can stop theory crafting how the servers are and can get into them full time. We want to make sure our Guild Arcanix is the best it can be, and our members know each other, mesh with each other, and get to play with each other to the fullest. We are an 18+ guild with more emphasis on 25+, with players who are veteran MMO players and prefer to crack a beer and kick some ass in comfort.

But we also don't want to be the silent kid on the sideline once alliances really get started, going, HEY LOOK AT ME, PASS ME THE BALL!!!

On topic of the Facebook page: We will be using the Facebook page to promote the works of people on our server: World firsts, WvW Scores and Wins, Community Videos and Podcasts. All sorts of entertainments while we are at work jonezing for more Guild Wars 2.

So please contact me if you would like to help moderate, add posts etc, we are open to everyone being a part of it!

Hope this now makes more sense to everyone and hopefully Jade Quarry will have been the best decision we have ever made!

I do want to address this as well....

Right now, it is hard to know where the communities are, what they are, and who is in charge. Without there being a game to SEE players and guild running around, it is all a giant theory craft on who is who. So we decided to make the page with that in mind and we figured the people who have established things as well would be in contact as we opened up to incorporate them, instead of going site by site trying to find the right people.

Best course of action? Who the hell knows and who the hell cares. We are trying to improve quality of life here, so I see no harm no foul. If we are talking about egos... Well.. that is a different discussion and one our guild will not be a part of, as this is meant to be fun in the end, with the idea that a lot of hard work goes into making it that way and we respect it.

From what I've seen from JQ, they seem like a good server, with nice people. Definitely a beast in WvW... was annoying to be matched up against them like 5 times in a row over the BWE and the stress tests over the past week or so, although the matchup was very fair and fun. Was a nice reprieve not to see them on Friday or today though.
I hold them to a high standard, which is why I take offense to people taking offense to a facebook community page.

The LA players I think are going to rock Sorrow's Furnace and make them a server to contend with.... but I'm totally with you on the language thing.  I often wonder how the EU servers do it.  It's pretty impressive if you ask me.  I think your guild will get along well with most of the rest of the JQ guilds (we do have the Bronys... they scare me... a lot).

Anyhow, if no one has said so thus far... or someone probably already did... welcome to Jade Quarry!  Looking forward to meeting ya'll in game, and running along side of you in WvW.  You'll recognize me because I consistently get yelled at for either spamming www.jadequarry.com, or for using /map chat... because the "other team can hear you"... even though it's been fixed since BWE2.

I came off as defensive. From our perspective we see someone we haven't heard of or

Hmmm...you gotta be from Stormbluff then.  It seems it is always JQ, SB and someone else in the pairing.  Always a tough and enjoyable fight with them.

Some of us (mostly me, myself, and I)... are theorizing that the server pop cap that prevents players from joining a server will "lighten" up once the server is no longer Full.  We, err, some of us experienced this during BWE1, BWE2, and ST2 and ST3... where once the server was no longer full, players could get in... even if it meant waiting a few hours... like four.  Our guild decided that we'll tough it out come launch... and hope to God that whomever took vacation time won't be sitting around ALL day waiting to get a shot to just log in, and designate JQ as their server.  It's a risk, it's a pain, and it's a major hurdle we're willing to face.... and as a guild, it's a step decided together, more or less, or at least for those who post on our guild site (me, myself, and I).

WvW queues are going to be a whole other issue.  I honestly think ANet limited the pop caps for the WvW Maps since BWE3.  I still need to count nameplates from SS I took...  kinda irked that we had so few players ST5...when normally we have a lot more.  Maybe it was just me, or whatever.  Regardless, I hope they can raise the cap to at least 166/server/map.

I have no problem with someone trying to encapsulate everything that happens on the server I play in; on the other hand, I have a problem with someone attesting his dominion over the entire server. As long as you don't cross that line, I think it's a great idea for an info-dump that will thrive not just because of one person, but because of the community. Calling it "official," though, just sounds like you're treading that line, which I absolutely don't think you intend to do, but it's not "official." Good luck, and it looks like you're doing a fine job already.

Updates on servers and their communities isn't really PvP discussion, so I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. Seems like this is something that belongs more on your guild's website. Especially given the response and drama created. Inter-guild or server drama is not the kind of thing we're going to allow on these forums. Keep it on facebook if you'd like to do that kind of thing.
