Tarnish Coast will be packed because it's the unofficial RP server. I doubt they do well in WvWvW, because most of them will do PVERP.
Not being to play with your guilds will quickly lower the population of the game. It will probably be the one thing that makes the GW2 launch stressful for most people. While I feel some guilds are being stupid and rolling to these overpopulated servers, most of them probably don't even know about server caps. After so many people make a character on a server, no one else can unless someone transfers off.
I see this "feature" being removed VERY quickly. Let people play where they want to... the transfer fee is there for a reason. Overflow servers are there for a reason too. Not being able to WvWvW with a friend just because he got the game 2 months after launch is insane. The best servers will be "full", this game strives on massive population.
Yes, I had noted that TC was listed as the unofficial RP server. One would assume that even as the 'unofficial RP server' many RP guilds may still roll elsewhere, especially if they want the WvW perks in PvE. Just depends on how well TC does in the WvW standings. (Someone's going to kill me for that line of thought, I just know it)
Still, server caps are a necessary evil. Could they have done the programming a different way so as to not need servers to begin with, which would have eliminated this issue? Maybe. Since I didn't do the coding, I have no clue (and I don't want to have a clue). I don't see the server caps going away, but they have said that they would raise them as high as they could. This is still going to lead to some larger guilds/alliances potentially having issues getting everyone in 1 place, and with the 1 transfer per week rule (which I believe is how it currently stands), people may be server hopping for the first few months before things really settle down. Of course, the fee may curb some of this since some people may feel that as long as they can play with their guild in everything else, WvW isn't worth the expense. And of course, there are some people/guilds that just don't care about WvW. It'll work itself out.
How is it already a nightmare? Aren't you jumping the gun a little bit based on spurious and misleading information? It is impossible to determine what a server's population will look like after launch. And besides, JQ's population during the stress tests and beta weekends wasn't an issue. Sure there were some queues for WvW, but I bet quite a few servers will have that problem, especially if they have a PvP/WvW focused community.
Lol really? How is it not a nightmare? You've not seen the posts with people already griping about not being able to get all their guild members onto the server they chose? (and we haven't even hit launch yet) How about the numerous threads and sites about trying to 'pre-plan' where people/guilds/alliances are going so that they can get everyone on the right server? I wasn't talking about WvW queues, that's a common sense, bound to happen problem. I'm talking about people trying to select their home world and not being able to because its full.
My point was that people are already having issues with server caps (not just on JQ), and popular servers are going to continue to have them. As such, the boards will be inundated at launch with yet more complaints about this issue.
