I'll likely be going with the 3rd or 4th most popular server.

Best of both worlds, not terribly long queues and good population during off hours.

Judging from the guild registration site people keep linking your best bet is Crystal Desert or Yak's Bend.

I'll be looking for the mid-servers as well (3-4), just so I know there's always a good population to fight against. I'm more of a solo world PVPer. Don't really care about the outcome of WvWvW. I just want to get into situations where I run into an equally-skilled PVPer and fight him 1vs1, or have to fight myself out of a 2vs1, while sneaking around the main armies. I'm pretty old school and don't really need objectives to kill people. Plus I like kiting. :D

And no, sPVP isn't the same as world PVP.

Memo to self: Avoid JQ server at all costs. Holy crap that's a lot of guilds.   Considering the number of them, I see a lot of future bitching about not being able to get all their guild/alliance members on there.

Tarnished Coast is looking at little packed with 76, but at least none of those guilds are claiming 200+ members a piece.

This is going to turn into a nightmare (more so than it already has) very quickly.

Tarnish Coast will be packed because it's the unofficial RP server. I doubt they do well in WvWvW, because most of them will do PVERP.

Not being to play with your guilds will quickly lower the population of the game. It will probably be the one thing that makes the GW2 launch stressful for most people. While I feel some guilds are being stupid and rolling to these overpopulated servers, most of them probably don't even know about server caps. After so many people make a character on a server, no one else can unless someone transfers off.

I see this "feature" being removed VERY quickly. Let people play where they want to... the transfer fee is there for a reason. Overflow servers are there for a reason too. Not being able to WvWvW with a friend just because he got the game 2 months after launch is insane. The best servers will be "full", this game strives on massive population.

How is it already a nightmare? Aren't you jumping the gun a little bit based on spurious and misleading information? It is impossible to determine what a server's population will look like after launch. And besides, JQ's population during the stress tests and beta weekends wasn't an issue. Sure there were some queues for WvW, but I bet quite a few servers will have that problem, especially if they have a PvP/WvW focused community.

Keep in mind that Jade Quarry has quite a few RP-PvP guilds as well, and many  of us are looking to make it another Unofficial RP server.

kinda sucks. ive been playing on JQ and its been fun.

A leader of guild from my Ragnarok Online alliance and one of his member is playing on Sea of Sorrow and they bringing 10-14 people there.

The person that told me to join JQ said he wants to join another server to fight this douche bag guild he was part of, but left with negative attitude.

Got a few people who hasn't decided on which servers to play.

=(... this division sucks.

Anybody who is really serious about their PvP will be there as soon as the servers open to get a spot in.

See I do not get this. I would think if you were serious about your PvP then you would want to face off against a sever such as JQ. If all of the "Good" groups of players are on one sever then the battles might become stale and boring.

These groups of guilds coming from other games should spread out and make for better battles and over all better experince for everyone.

What can we do to bribe you????

Whatever douchebag guild he's referring to, they can face off either in sPvP, or Keg Brawl... I think some of that is starting to heat up already from rival guilds within Jade Quarry.

Yak's Bend is another one I'm looking at as well.  Question is, does it have a devoted bunch of older WvW players?  Haven't figured that out yet.

Yes, I had noted that TC was listed as the unofficial RP server. One would assume that even as the 'unofficial RP server' many RP guilds may still roll elsewhere, especially if they want the WvW perks in PvE. Just depends on how well TC does in the WvW standings. (Someone's going to kill me for that line of thought, I just know it)
Still, server caps are a necessary evil. Could they have done the programming a different way so as to not need servers to begin with, which would have eliminated this issue? Maybe. Since I didn't do the coding, I have no clue (and I don't want to have a clue). I don't see the server caps going away, but they have said that they would raise them as high as they could. This is still going to lead to some larger guilds/alliances potentially having issues getting everyone in 1 place, and with the 1 transfer per week rule (which I believe is how it currently stands), people may be server hopping for the first few months before things really settle down. Of course, the fee may curb some of this since some people may feel that as long as they can play with their guild in everything else, WvW isn't worth the expense.  And of course, there are some people/guilds that just don't care about WvW. It'll work itself out.

Lol really? How is it not a nightmare? You've not seen the posts with people already griping about not being able to get all their guild members onto the server they chose? (and we haven't even hit launch yet) How about the numerous threads and sites about trying to 'pre-plan' where people/guilds/alliances are going so that they can get everyone on the right server? I wasn't talking about WvW queues, that's a common sense, bound to happen problem. I'm talking about people trying to select their home world and not being able to because its full.
My point was that people are already having issues with server caps (not just on JQ), and popular servers are going to continue to have them. As such, the boards will be inundated at launch with yet more complaints about this issue.

From what I understand it is a pretty good server. I have a group of friends who were there for all of the betas. However that group of friends is currently looking at other homeworld possibilities.

Yak's Bend does look good. It seemed pretty chill in terms of community. It did fairly well during the BWE's. And it's not home to any of the annoying large alliances that have superiority complexes who try to monopolize WvW for themselves.

If I recall correctly sPvP isn't bound by server, as you can be teamed up with ppl from any server.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

(In before 50,000 people attempt to do the same!)

The thing I hate about "advertising a server" is that all the scrubs will move there and all the pros will move off. Happened in WoW, where every Tom, Dick and Harry moved to Titch "to find moar competition" but all the pros x-fered off Horde and rolled Alliance and changed servers.

Right now JQ has a lot of publicity so every Tom, Dick and Harry are going to try and roll there while people migrate off.
Going pink Asuras, or going home. (Even the male ones)

Not everyone rolling on JQ really cares about PvP or WvW, there's also that to keep in mind. I enjoy dropping into WvW every so often, but I don't really care either way if we win or lose - makes no difference to me.

I am hoping that the whole "server full" thing isn't an issue at launch though.

I was reffering to WvW not SPvP as yes you are correct, the SPvP matches are from a global pool of players last I heard.

Yeah I'm not sure how huge Jade will be now.. I really hope it'll be okay. I'm trying my hardest to be ever so positive about it! I came from the largest Tera server and let me tell you.. It was painful. :( I'll tell you how it goes at launch!

I don't want to roll on a crowed server but MMO history has taught me that servers lose a large portion of their player base after about two months.  If I play on the perfect server at release, it will be barren in a few months.  If I play on a crowed server, in a few months the population will be perfect.

I rather take my chances on the crowed server.  I can wait two months before I WvW.

Dontain announced yesterday that he was going to Jade Quarry - that's one possible motive for a lot of people who have recently picked it.

He's got one of the bigger youtube channels for GW2.

If I were him, I wouldn't be announcing who my characters would be or where I was going, so I could game in peace... :)

I think JQ is also a potential server for mmorpg.com, along with Fort Aspenwood.  Not sure how many WvW players are in that crowd, but I'm guessing quite a few.

I'll most likely be going to Jade Quarry seeing as the DAoC community was the best I ever experienced. I find it hilarious that so many people care about making sure they're on a server with a big/well-known alliance(s). I guess it feels good to be carried/leech off strangers in WvW or something.

If possible, I would also like to know.  There seems to be no updated lists of what communities are where (for example, I thought Yak's was the Guru Hub, but it seems slightly off-base now).  It's difficult to understand how people have come to the conclusions they have.

Change 'many RP guilds' to 'a few at best.'

Also, because of the influence thing that makes it impossible for members of a guild from different servers to gain and use influence and their benefits, (which has been discussed in at least two long threads on this forum) it makes joining any guild outside of your server extremely undesirable. I don't doubt that people will do this but I have faith in people to know these harsh negatives before picking a server. Particularly because RPers tend to require researching on the internet before they can leap in.
