There are horses, they just haven't been shown in-game (yet). But they've been mentioned in the books and, I think, in NPC chatter.

There is one horse in Tyria, it's owned by King Thorn.

Pretty cool looking I think.

I noticed an interesting thing on the centaurs the other day:

Some of them have what appear to be saddles with spikes (lets just say you dont want to sit on them). Now, what would be the purpose of having such a sign of defiance if another race didnt use such saddles to ride?

Could be armour, but still, a valid observation. There was also the princess dolls in Tixx's laboratory attempting to ride the Ventari dolls, which implies that there was enough of a concept of riding that they were going to attempt it.

Are Asura small enough to be wielded in a single hand of the Norn or Charr? Because one of those riding a centaur effectively gives one  rider 10+ (hand x2, shoulder, head) weapon hardpoints (counting the centaur). That would totally be a valid military tactic.

Could a centaur carry a norn or charr? Even if they could, might adding an asura as well be the midget that breaks the centaur's back?

Besides, if you want multiple weapon hardpoints, just pile multiple asura directly onto the centaur - or build a golem.

Do we see toilets in the game?
Does it mean humans in Tyria do not use toilets or something?

There are just some things, many many things in fact, that are deemed insignificant or irrelevant to the game and simply phased out of conscious content rendering; they are "there", just never "noticed".

Horses in Tyria are simply not important enough to be rendered.

Then there's the other point -
If Anet includes horse models/mobs/interactables, the question would inevitably come up "why can't we ride them?"
It already does even when there's no horse in visual existence in the game to remind players.

But from this, I'd deduce that Anet has no wish to entertain such requests for now.

Humans and one would assume many of what we consider 'normal' animals are alien to Tyria, being transpanted from another world. We don't know in what numbers each specicies came to Tyria or if they were sustainable(both genetically and economically). Horses quite possibly came, but not in suffecient numbers to ensure their survival, especially in light of perhaps hardier and native pack animals(Dolyaks). More economic alternatives(Doylaks, Waypoints), limited numbers, relegation to status symbols, coupled with every known human civilization(the only ones assumed to know/need horses) either falling, disppearing, or on the ropes, could have spelled their doom. This would explain historical examples and knowledge of horses and also why they don't seem to exist in any meaningful fashion in Tyria the continent at least.

Or lazy coders.

Nothing implies to any degree that the 'normal' animals are alien to Tyria. We do know, however, horses exist in Tyria (we have dozens of sources for this). They just aren't shown in-game.

It would have to be a large (bigger than our average horse) horse to carry a norn considering norn are much bigger than humans

maybe horses were common but with the discovery of map travel they became obsolete and just faded into obscurity soon after?
*side note* map travel has to be learned in the quest in gw 1 map travel inventor it was possibly a skill not every one had.... well ummmm unless... Mauban was a bit.... lets say slow
