You know what I don't like? That lately a lot of their contests involve failbook, I'm sorry "facebook" and twitter. I boycott such social networks and I know mayn people who the same. On the other hand I would like to take part in such activities but I can't because that would force me to betry my own principles.

I hope they use their official forums for things like this, as soon as they are up, I'm sick of this social network fad.

That's possibly due to parents not being allowed to spank their kids in most area's. Or Parents giving their kids cell phones and other crap because it's trendy. It's the generation S for spoiled. I'll even bet the complainers had a kindigarden graduation cerimony.

Heaven forbid, these people go outside and mow the effing lawn for a dollar, in 105 degree tempature like I had to as a kid.

Blizzard have done things like this as well, and in some cases the item has turned out to be something quite unique that a lot of people would have liked to have the chance at getting. I can understand why people are disgruntled over it, since they're basically doing a limited run item that most people can't have even if they want it simply because they don't live in the right place. It might just be an aesthetic item but GW2 is all about aesthetics which actually makes it even more significant...

Also bear in mind that there are some people who play MMOs with a completionist attitude and things like this kinda kill the fun for them.

Of course this might be something that will just end up in the gem store later anyway, in which case no big deal. I think most people would be fine with it if this were the scenario.

I hope that when the official forums finally open up that they will migrate some of their online presence/events over there.  

While for a company Facebook/Twitter allows them to conveniently reign a majority of their fan base into certain areas.  There is still a large majority that probably don't even touch anything but the game and never even think of visiting such sites.  So I have to agree.

No, if you follow ANet style of giving in-game items out during GW1 special events, these items are probably very valuable and probably can't be obtained anyway else in game and would probably cost tons of gold later on.  But I could be wrong, if they buck that trend.

Anyway, who cares, that is PvE right?

I wouldn't be worried if most of these people were teens or around at my age. But i see a lot grown up man too sharing the same idea.

Indeed, when I was in-game I found people to be generally friendly and helpful. Map speech was quite a fun read, unlike the area channels of many other games ...

In my experience people who are playing the PVE in a "completionist" way, usualy play the auction house too and gold isn't realy a huge problem for them.

Some just want it to be rich in game and sell it for a bunch of money later on, when the games older and stuff. If its a mini or a weapon, i hope its soulbound and if its a t-shirt or figurine i don't give a flying horse crap about it. XD

Ah...those people who have these "limited-edition" items (i.e. in GW1, these were rare mini-pets), that can't be obtained anymore in the game, can sell them for lots and lots of gold.  That was what happened in GW1, I won't be surprised at all if the same thing is happening in GW2.  All because they were in the right place at the right time.

Is that fair?  Maybe, maybe not, but it is PvE afterall.  If some guy who plays less than you but has a 100 times your wealth in the game, you should not complain right?

Yeah but i think we can tell the same about almost every MMO out there, It has always been there and probably will always be there. I just don't see the reason to complain about it now.

That's the problem with the spoiled vocal minority. They're louder than the grateful or impartial.

And to top it off: Those that don't get it whine that they didn't get it. Those that do get it whine that it wasn't what they wanted. EVERYBODY WINS!

Obviously not everybody thinks like that.  For example, some people intend to power level to 80 as fast as they can while others just want to play through the game casually.  PvE is competitive to some people which is why they complain when ANet gives such a big edge to people who are simply there at the right place and at the right time.

This thread, however, can also be perceived as a form of whine about other people who whine.

To be honest i am not worried about my in-game experience with these people. I just hope that Anet is fully aware that these people are only the vocal minority and they won't start to change their philosophy for the complainers like.

It's the mentality "I'm spoiled. I want everything, everything. If I don't have that something that HE or SHE has, it's unfair or it's overpowered because I don't have it and I want it. I want it now, now, now! *insert spoiled baby cry*" It's not just in video games tho, you see it often in real life too. The scariest thing is that it's not just kids that act like that. I guess it's like that when you grow up having everything you ever wanted and then you step into the "real world" where you don't have everything you want and then it's constant QQ.

My first though about the special item was also "Oh they are lucky to get that item, I wonder what it will look like."    Cuz let's be realistic... one "special" equipment skin is pretty much irrelevant when you will have like...100 other skins to choose (if it is even an equipment piece that they will get). I'd ignore those comments to begin with, but it's sad that people from Anet have to lay their eyes on that pile of...rubbish.

Of course we can look at it like that. However this has been in my mind for a while now, this FB post was what actualy made me make this thread. And i don't think talking about this topic does anything bad for the community or for the game. At least i hope so. I just wanted to calm ymself down that what i saw on FB isn't the norm this community is heading to.

Yes i feel sorry for Anet too. I also admire their stamina that they actualy try to calm and answer some people in the comments.
