I was researching servers to roll on and I could not find out why Crystal Desert is so populated.  I found this reddit post that shows the population of the servers on the stress tests and beta weekends and Crystal Desert was full on almost all of them.  Is their some unofficial community rolling on their?  Or some celeberity? haha

I hope people dont approach this game like other MMOs. Where all the PvP guys go to one server. sPvP is cross server and WvWvW needs the competition to be spread out to be truly successful

All my friends are forcing me to it so that's why I'm going there, not really happy about it though, as you said its full all the time, I would greatly prefer another server but I got no choice in the matter, its either that or be forever alone v_v

Lol everyone knows you always join servers with the coolest names. However if that were completely true, Darkhaven would be more full than it actually is.

They can't, the population cap stops them. This is why TL isn't telling their chosen server location publicly. If they did, many of their alliance members would be stuck outside of the server.

Crystal Desert has some awesome lore if you've played GW1. :]

Crystal Desert has been selected as the LGBT realm from gaymer.net, so theres a few hundred or so from that. I doubt it really made the realm even more full... but if you've played proudmoore in WoW you will see we can add up quick.

So does that mean that Crystal Desert will most likely be deserted when TL moves to a different server?

No, it still has a MASSIVE number of guilds that will be on it. I'm actually looking to join a different server now since it's probably going to be full on the first day.

My Guild is on that server for right now, but given the fact that its a very popular server not sure if we will stay on it, we already switch from Sea of Sorrow to this one.

There is no real reason I'm sure. Especially not just because of one silly group.  Maybe perhaps a bigger, larger community, such as MMOHut who chose the server during the betas and a few large guilds.  It was also pretty successful in WvW, so that will at least draw some people.  Go with whatever server you want,  and have fun!!

I looked at Sea of Sorrows as well but since it is an unofficial oceanic the time difference was to much...

I hear ya, I'm just looking for a really high populated server...My old WoW server was medium-high back in the day and now there are like five people on it haha, so I'm trying to avoid that...

Darkhaven is full as hell, hence why I moved from it in BWE3, hoping my mate doesn't want to go back there it was fulled of kids as well, all saying le in the starter zones, so it was annoying

Crystal Desert is name from GW1 so maybe people also picked it due to that reason.

The three big LGBT guilds already established in GW2 -- Stonewall Vanguard, Rough Trade and Gayme 0n -- are all going to Crystal Desert.

Voting hasn't closed at GayGamer, but Crystal Desert is the overwhelming favourite.  So it looks like CD will be the unofficial LGBT server.

Not to toot my server's horn, but Isle and Janthir is well populated, has many guilds, very good at WvW and is also the second most populated RP server. So it really has it all!

Hmm the numbers I were looking up must have been stale. Do we have a general consensus on which servers are going to be catering to a  more mature crowd?

i was originally going to play on crystal desert...but after the last stress test i'm not so sure. This server is too full...

On one side, it's the unofficial LGBTQ server. Rough Trade (also known as Taint) alone comes with a massive amount of members, and with a reputation that attracts other similar themed groups.

On the other side, Team Legacy is on it (or was in the Betas, no idea about their final choice), and many future PvPers still seem to not have grasped that WvWvW has a balancing system and therefor hanging out with only the successful PvPers does not create an advantage. (To be fair though, TL has a reputation to also be mature and pleasant for a PvP group, which is definitely an advantage.)
