Are spider pets ranged or melee? I'm looking for a spitting spider or anything that's ranged.

All Spiders and Devourers are ranged.

Spiders are full ranged and Devourers have ranged skills with a melee KD and tunnel to get away.

Spiders' range makes them quite different from every other pet. All the others are tanks to some degree, as they are all melee. This makes them almost instantly die in any fight against a boss unless you happen to keep the pet away from said boss. Spiders having a 900 range on their skills makes them far more of a damage dealer even in boss/champion situations at the cost of losing a tank.

I personally recommend having a spider as one of your terrestrial pet slots for the above situations.

In PvE spider (all ranged) is great for those champions that will slaughter your pet in melee. For solo I use bear w/ spider as back up. Spider also occasionally lays a nice poison combo field.

Agree'd. I usually run and grab me a spider pet pretty quickly. They are nice to have as part of the rotation.
