Anet just updated their FAQ: http://en.support.gu...etail/a_id/9184

Some impt sections:

I travel frequently. Will I be able to play Guild Wars 2?

Yes. The one-time verification system simply confirms that you have purchased the correct version of the game for your area of the world. Once that has been confirmed, you may play from any location you desire.

How does regional restriction affect my Guild Wars 2 home world?
Home Worlds

The very first time you start the game you will be asked to select your home world. Although by default we display the worlds that are hosted in your regional data center, you are free to select a home world from either region at this time. So if you are a European player who prefers to play on the North American worlds, please feel free to do so.

Can I change my home world?

Changing Home Worlds

Yes, you can change your home world. At launch players will be able to transfer freely between worlds. Once server populations have largely settled and stabilized, world transfers will be restricted to once a week and each transfer will have a variable cost in gems that will be based on the population of the world to which you wish to transfer.

Can I transfer between worlds?

Transferring between worlds

At launch players will be able to transfer between worlds freely. Once server populations have largely settled and stabilized, world transfers will be restricted to once a week and cost a variable amount of gems based on the population of the world being transferred to.

What is home world ā€œguesting?ā€

Guesting on a Home World

Sometime after the release of Guild Wars 2, we will introduce free "guesting,ā€ where players will be able to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature will be free, but guest players will not be able to enter world-versus-world battles. In addition, the Power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters.

Good to see there is indeed a solution for those who travel. Just like they said there would be...

I think people can stop complaining now that they have said they will base free transfers on how much servers are being over populated.

Just in time for that guy who was ranting here about being region locked and customer support not doing anything about it.

"will have a variable cost in gems that will be based on the population of the world to which you wish to transfer."

like this so maybe transferring to a lower pop server will be cheaper.

What hasn't been answered is whether I can change the default datacenter I get routed to. I do NOT want to get routed to European datacenters after having moved back to Malaysia, which would render the game near impossible to play with 400~600+ms
