So even though we got the enigmatic "For now, there's no walking in GW2", which could mean it can come later, I'd like to just keep the spirit alive that many of us feel having the option to walk is a simple yet profound thing to have in an MMO.

It's one of the things that was severely lacking in Guild Wars Classic, and I feel strongly if the animation / mechanic exists as a condition (like it does in GW1), it'd be great to just have the ability to choose to walk as well.

^ Discussion in the Q/A thread
http://www.guildwars...line-t5241.html
^ Interview that suggested "Nay, thou shall not have walk!" and made me a sad panda.
http://www.guildwars...king-t3923.html
^Older toggle walking thread I should have bumped instead of starting my own :( *guilt*

Instances where walking is important (feel free to add to the list):
•*Roleplay: how can you charm that snazzy Elementalist without a savvy strut to the bar?
• PvP: Nothing says "You got served" like walking up to your downed foe's helpless, limp body and delivering the Final Blow
• Precarious Balancing: Because you know, Norn are kinda tall and can't skitter across ledges the way Asura can.
• Instilling Fear in the Enemy: I'm sure you've played Bayonetta. There's something special about cat-walking with pistols towards the bad-guys.
• Taking time to relax in a beautiful environment/Explore an environment. -Amannelle  (Who doesn't like long walks on the beach / forest? I know I do!)
• Pride: Cuz then I cant be sad if my toon is faster than me in real life ~ bglasner319 (This was too funny not to add)
• Everybody loves feature-length Machinima! The lack of walking could severely hinder all of our future Steven Spielberg's.

Yea, I hope they include it one time or another.
In other MMO's I tend to use it as well every now and then, especially since I don't have to group with all those rushy people. :)

/signed! :D Please ANet, you make such breathtaking places, and I would love to be able to just casually stroll through them, observing things as they go by. To just have the freedom to go for a walk and explore really adds a calming feel to the game at times. I mean, sure, Tyria is in grave danger from the dragons, but even Lord of the Rings and Star Wars had time for leisure, and if we can do activities for fun, why not be able to just walk around for fun too? :) Please please pllleeeeeease? :D

Very nice examples. ;)

Ability to walk is essential for immersion. One of the things amongst the ability to jump that I was missing in the original Guild Wars.

I'd like for the walk to take place in cities/towns/villages which are not being raided/attacked or part of instanced storyline quests with a fight/battle ahead.

There should be also a text command ( /blablabla) to replace running with walking, for the roleplaying/movie purposes.

A 'fast walk' can be roughly 2/3 as fast as 'running', and there is no reason to run in the towns, since they won't be too large anyway (for the same reason I'd ban jumping in cities/towns/villages, which are not part of raid/fight/battle at the moment ... it just ruins your day-to-day immersion).

This is a bit much. All we really want is a run/walk toggle. Hahah

I know many players will never get the point of it but I like to slow down sometimes. It's such a simple thing, I can't see why they wouldn't do it.

Walking is important to me.  Your implementation would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

The stupid thing is. I alrdy saw a Asura with a blue-ish robe walk in the trailer. And i saw "player" asura's running in that same shot. so i assume that is an NPC! So it's alrdy in the game basically! All they have to do is give the option to players.. /sigh!

I'm pretty sure walking is already in it. I saw the vids like the races one. In the Black citadel some charr were walking Also in rata sum some Asura were walking i think they're NPCs but Oh well

by range of movement as said in a Intwrview I think walking, Running, Jogging, Jumping and Dodging is what they meant

Just because I don't think it'd take too long to implement (they need different animations for slow hexes, right?) and it's clear a lot of people want it (myself not included; I don't care one way or the other).

I wouldn't expect it on release, but it should be on the shortlist of cosmetic improvements.

@Crow Clown: that's completely correct, they have walking animations in for at least NPCs already.

Because a lot of quests in GW1 that involved escorting/following an NPC had the NPC walk or jog at some awkward speed that wasn't available to players. Also, if you're in a group and part of your team is snared, busy with drops, opening a chest, raising minions, or doing something to that effect, you'll get a similar situation.

Running > waiting > running > waiting is annoying to me, basically.

Absolutely need the option to walk. I'm trying to convert a number of Lord of The Rings fans and other role playing friends to Guild Wars 2 fans and the lack of a walking option is going to stop them in their tracks, no matter how cool everything else is. We need a way to be people in-game, and not just action figures.
