It's great to see such an interest in RoS, and what it stands for!
I really hope that all of you who are still hesitant to join, will give it a try. Keep in mind that if it feels empty, you have free server changes in the beginning.
Im looking forward to meeting all of you, and hopefully on RoS! ;)

I've heard from a friend of mine that RoS was pretty high populated in BWE3, where this just the Spanish ones or might it have a decent population already?

I think there were lots of spanish people in RoS back then, but there will be plenty of English in RoS now because most Spanish have already moved on to Barukh Bay.

We're up to 20 servers now, it's looking very promising.

I bet a lot of people will like the idea of an international english server.

Twenty guilds, though I'm not sure if the three Spanish ones intend to move on to the Spanish world or stick around RoS: http://www.gw2guilds...ruins-of-surmia

It's possibly premature to call this a success - we'll see that come launch - but it's certainly very promising, yes..

Well it is an unofficial international english server. So it covers anyone who can speak english, not just people who speak it as a first language. They might want to stay just to have a more varied community or they might stick around for nostalgia or loyalty reasons.

Most of the guilds in that list have english as at least their secondary language. So I wouldn't be concerned.

No, it won't, so far Desolation has a lot of randoms.
So far what we've reached with Ruins of Surmia is Organized groups, there will ofcourse be more Randoms later on, but Desolation, it won't.

PS: I think we have achieved our goal of populating Ruins of Surmia, the rest will come on its own.

Actually, reading it I'm not sure if 'unofficial international english server' comes across as being a bit jingoistic - maybe 'unofficial international english-speaking server' would be better, though perhaps I'm being overly pedantic. Doesn't really matter providing people don't get the wrong impression.

I think the fact that there are 2 unofficial UK servers listed creates enough context to make the difference clear in people's minds. Although arguably those servers already have international English-speaking communities as well hehe. The nationality tags are dominated by Europe and International more than UK.

Personally I wouldn't mind if Ruins of Surmia (which is looking increasingly likely for me!) had a more Central and Eastern European population since it would be more convenient (timezone-wise) for me to play with them.

Seems fitting that all the displaced guildless folks make a home on 'ruins of Surmia'
and possibly form a fresh guild from people of all nationalities
Brings to mind wayfarers and refugees, finding a shared home :D

Thus i put forth to call the server guild 'Outlanders'

We kinda already set up a guild like that ;) PM me or Gabudan for more info if you're interested in that.

That never occurred to me so I don't think that is something we should be worried about. I think the majority of people will understand what is meant when they see the word international.

I think it would be in our best interest for the server to get a good balanced spread of timezones. Just so WvW never ends up getting too empty. "Don't put all your eggs in the one basket" as they say. Plus I'm living in Ireland so that comment makes me a little sad just when I found a server I really liked the look of. I hope the server stays balanced.

Honestly, I don't think anyone should worry about being in a different timezone when we're all from Europe. It's not like we're spread 6 hours apart from each other.

I'm Irish too, as it happens. I can't imagine there'll be any real problems with timezones on the European servers - a two or even three hour difference isn't that big a deal.

Re: the concerns of it seeming jingoistic to call it the 'international English server': I really wouldn't worry. That thought never crossed my mind. I think most people should understand from the context that it's intended to mark a server intended for anyone who wants to go speak English, rather than a bunch of British expatriates, amusing an image as that is. :)

I am taking sides with Felonius here. It would surely be (even*) more welcoming if the server would be declared the "unofficial international english-speaking server". It probably isn't difficult to change that or is it? And it would probably attract more people...

Old news, already discussed in multiple threads. They moved to Baruch Bay (new official ES server).

Will we be able to change servers during todays stress test?

If it's possible I might move to Ruins of Surmia and get a feel for the place, maybe we could meet up too.

I've heard people say that if you delete your charcters you can pick a new server, I don't know if it holds any truth.
