One thing I loved in Eden Eternal was that you did not have to chase around an area where you defeated a lot of enemies in order to loot all the corpses one at a time.

In fact, your pet did it for you. Every player got a cute little Pug early on in the game which would run up to a defeated opponent that had dropped loot. There they would fetch the loot for you and run back (or to the next corpse that had loot).

So considering that GW2 will also have tons of minis available, why not give them a convenient function of looting enemies for you? That way your little Tabby or Pug or Rytlock would run around fetching items whilst you could keep on doing what you were doing. :)

Lolol I can't imagine a Charr... even a mini Charr, running around picking up your loot! :D

But yeah the idea was also in Aion and atm I can't think of any disadvantages of this, especially as it'd be a choice to use those minis, and would only be available to select ones.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

I don't really see why you would want this. Pets shouldn't give you an advantage. It's not that hard to loot bodies (or maybe pressing F a few times is too hard for you?).

Looting doesn't add difficulty. I don't see how adding some convenience would be unfair. That's what the cash shop is partially for.

Pretty easy to solve that: just have a default one. Maybe tie it in to character creation.

Looting enemies can be difficult in WvW.

+1 to this idea (even though I want to pretend that every single thing in GW2 is totally revolutionary and original and no one has ever done anything like it before)

do said pets have their own inventory?  is it based off your inventory?

it seems pretty easy to loot already; I mean, you are already standing there

but, no reason not to post it on the official forums; someone from ArenaNet would probably see the suggestion  :)

I don't see this breaking the game. Just taking a boring system of clicking a dead body and recieving your reward.

I would think that the mini would run back and fourth to you. kinda like a loot run if you will. I would think the only down side to it would be if the programers just want us to sift through dead bodies for some reason.

Either way i wouldn't care. If they give me a loot all button i'll be happy enough. but in WvW i could see how this loot bot would be nice. i mean.. if you kill a guy in a group of 50. you may not get the chance to loot that body before you die to the next 49 people assaulting you.

There is something you can tick in the options so you automatically loot everything when you just press F over a lootable corpse. Saves a lot of time. You don't even have to stop moving to pick your stuff up like that...

It's a convenience effect attached to a vanity item; giving it some functionality and in doing so makes its presence more dynamic and interactive. :)

Personally I find it a shame that some people (like you) immediately resort to calling me lazy, just for suggesting a fun(ny) alternative to looting dead bodies. I thought the concept of a mini Rytlock picking the pockets of a defeated enemy very funny. But I guess some people just feel the need to be negative... :(

In the last stress test, having auto-loot enabled was also necessary for effective harvesting.  I harvested a half dozen nodes with it off before I realized that I hadn't actually gathered any of the materials from the nodes.  The game had treated them like loot I had available and didn't add them to my inventory because I hadn't clicked on them.

More on the original topic, I don't see ANet doing this.  If they had wanted to enable loot dropping in your inventory automatically, they would have.  Since they intentionally implemented a system where you have to approach the drop and act to pick it up, I don't see why they'd implement a more complicated system (a pet that picks up loot for you) to circumvent it.

Or maybe the thought hadn't occured to them, hence my suggestion.

Heck, you could even have it as a 'dog collar' convenience item that can be bought from the item shop. Then the item could be equipped on a mini, giving it the ability to pick up loot. Thus turning a static mini that just follows you around into a dynamic mini that runs around the area to pick up loot that's dedicated to you.

Personally I do not see it as a more complicated system as pathing scripts are already in place. So instead of a ranger pet rushing off towards a living target and 'press' combat abilities, you'd have a mini rushing off to a dead target and 'press F' :P

I don't like this idea.

I hate mini-pets. It looks awful and it is immersion-breaking. I rather remove mini-pets entirely. This suggestions suggests a mini-pet zoo which is the opposite of what I want.

I don't care if I have to press F to whip that lazy little thing every time I want it to go into looting action.

aka absolutely no change from how auto loot currently works. Under the hood it's just a different looting animation. Rather than the animation of my character bending down to loot, the mini pet runs over to the dead body then back to me carrying something.

I just want it because it would be cute.

Heh heh, I guess that could work too. Press 'F' and your mini dashes off to a corspe within range that has loot for you :P
