Mod edit and response from Colin:

View PostColin Johanson, on 20 August 2012 - 03:15 PM, said:

Just want to jump on this before it gets out of hand. Pretty much nothing in this post is factually correct, I'm not sure where this information came from but flat out: it's misinformed at best and a lot of it totally false.

We'll absolutely have a GM team that helps support the game at live, the rest of it is partially incorrect information or just plain wrong. You'll start seeing information about our post-ship plans shortly (as early as today on some press sites) but it'll come from developers specifically.

See you in game on Thursday!

Keep this in mind before reacting.

Some stuff from Gamescom that I think hasn't been posted yet:
http://forum.ptrealm....php?f=78&t=581
or for the English translation:
http://www.teamquitt...hp?f=55&t=30601

Quote

1. The accounts will have a system authenticator (digital and possibly physical) similar to WoW - official information will come out next week.

2. In case of account hacking the account may be restored to their prior state before the intrusion.

3. There will be live in-game support (similar to WoW) through tool that we already use to report BUGS, we will be able to contact a GM in real time.

4. The end-game is not 100% completed, there is much work to do, but ANET is not expecting the the end-game to be reachable quickly, they are now focused on the release, if all goes well they will move on to work at 100% in the endgame (DiabloIII nostalgia??).

PS - They are aware of the disaster of Diablo with the end-game and ensured that will not happen to GW2, after the release team will jump all just work in end-game.

5. Are being explored new methods of PvP, GvG is confirmed to return to GW2, but said they could not disclose much more.

6. New merchandise will be launched on 28/08/2012, including Dragon T-Shirts.

Endgame is not ready? I expect massive backlash, even if they are indeed right and everything will be playing 100% before anyone reaches it...

No end-game = no fun.

Even if they promise it "soon", that "soon" will never come.

I've been a fan of GW since the original game before the expansions. If there is one thing I can commend on arenanet, it would definitely be their reliability with their game. The in game chat didn't have any gold spammers whatsoever, even if there were they would get banned almost immediately. That, in itself is enough to prove to me that they are dedicated enough to ensure that the game will not disappoint. If anything, arenanet is no blizzard, I'm not worried even a little.

Yay for authenticator :D
But it scares me that the endgame is not really finished Oo I would have thought they wouldn't underestimate the race to the endgame that some people are planning to do... When they get to the end of the game and there is ... nothing - it will be a PR desaster for Guild Wars 2! I don't want it to get bad press just because they didn't think anyone would be so quick to reach it :(
I'm scared now...

I wonder how correct that statement actually is.
Did the representative from ArenaNet actually say: "End-game is not ready"? Or was it more like: "We will work on more end-game after release"?

I think the reason for the end game not being complete is that they are increasing it. They started off basically saying there was no end game, but rather the entire game was end game. They have taken a lot of flack from the general gaming community for this as most people want end game content. Being Anet, I think they are giving us what we want and adding more end game. They basically added end game content in prophecies after the fact also (UW and FOW). I don't think this is a problem, so much as a boon. It's Anet listening to the desires of the community. That's a good thing.

No end game? you mean the whole game isn't ready, as, according to themselves the whole game is endgame ;). I am not bothered, I will be taking my time to 100% the map before I even look at end game dungeons, then there are the lower dungeons, wvw... sPvP if I start getting bored, oh, and crafting.. legendary weapons...

Yes, it does sound like some guy, misinterpreting what he heard,
I'm glad to hear about authenticators (well, they were already announced weren't they? so no news here?) but let's not jump to conclusions about this 'game not finished' thing.

I doubt that they've not finished endgame more likely it was lost in translation and they actually said something like "We will be adding more endgame in the future"

No end game at the start should be perfectly fine except you know there are going to be some sad *s who reach level 80 in a week or less... But Anet shouldn't care about them anyway they only ruined their own experience : /

Indeed, that sounds much more likely. Too bad it will most likely damage marketing unless it gets fixed fast.

Authenticators and new merchandise -> Sweet! New methods of PvP is  awesome as well^^
I hope the part on endgame is a bit of a misinterpretation.

Also, it's gamescom, not con.

This information can't be correct....end game not finished by launch? Then it's not ready is it?

I wouldn't worry too much myself. Even if it takes them two more weeks after release to finish end-game, I won't bother since I don't want to rush to lvl 80 anyway. And besides, knowing how perfectionists they are, end-game probably just needs some polish and tweaks nothing major.

Even if people are going to be 80 in a few days, there will be sooooo much that they still need to do to actually reach endgame content. Being the Max level does not mean that you have to play the endgame content because there is nothing else to do....

People seem to forget that GW2 is NOT like the other MMOs. Level means "nothing" in this game. It's just helpful to be level 80 because of the traits and skills you unlocked. Whereas in other games once you reached max level everything below it becomes meaningless.

I agree. I'm personally quite sure they didn't mean "There is no endgame...", but just meant that they're still working on perfecting it and will continue to do so/add more after release. Either way, like you, I'm not bothered, since I'll be taking my sweet time to enjoy the ride (5 times) before I start demanding things to do at level cap.

Endgame can't be finished in a newly started mmo. There will a lot balancing patches after launch which influence endgame. Personally I don't care about endgame since I'll enjoy wvw or sPvP until the rest is done.

The "source" is a forum? One that has been translated from Portuguese to English no less. Not like there is any room for interpretation issues there or anything....

I looked closer at the two links posted. This information is coming from a Portuguese fan who visited Gamescon. He spoke, in Portuguese with a native French speaking community rep. So the path of information is kinda round-about, and may have mistakes due to language barriers. Take it with a grain of salt....

Can't believe it took this many posts for someone to say that. I wouldn't even call this a "source" as much as I would call it forum heresay.

I still don't get this militant mindset toward players that want to reach max level as fast as they can. Why so negative toward these players? How could them reaching level 80 long before you have any affect on your play experience? I wish someone would explain this.

On Topic:
Yes, Anet has added "end-game" content after various releases many times. UW and FOW were not available when Prophecies was released. Urgoz and The Deep were not available when Factions was released. DOA was not ready when Nightfall was released. In all of these cases everything turned out fine. Hopefully this is a misunderstanding due to translation errors but even if it isn't I think Anet will come through. They always have! :)
