Very excited to hear a more vocal game. Really adds to the immersion factor.

That's pretty cheap actually. Tickets for crappy local conventions in my home country cost about 5-7 euros. So that's wow awesomely cheap.

so two things:
What is a "dye channel"? is it like the dye slots we have, where you can combine any 4 dyes togethor in a window?
we once again have to obtain dyes.

There are now 3 dye-able areas on armor/clothes.
And yes, it's normal to have to buy/obtain dyes. Duh, not like we'll get them for free >.>
Wouldn't be surprised if you can craft them.

ohhhhhh, so for example:
You've got an elementalists robe; its got a lining, the main fabric, and perhaps so intricate details. The new dye setup would let you pick a colour for each?

I'm thinking that's correct. They said there will be an upcoming blog post about it, so you can figure it out for sure then.

Debated for what reason, exactly? I don't really see a point to restricting certain professions to only being played by certain races.

Essentially - how I see that was that the debate was over "shall we split skill names and in turn professions or shall we have all skills and all professions available to all races, forcing to go around lore a bit or to change according to lore a bit?" - they took the later.

Because there are professions that could be unique and work only for 1 race. Asuran Golemancer, charr engineer, norn storyteller, human dervish, sylvari... arbolmancer? Some racial skills may have sprung from the idea of unique classes per race. Its a fairly standard thing to do in most MMOs and does have its pluses and minuses, they went with all available for balance and fairness.

I'm willing to bet the parents of the little girl who asked the first question were hoping her cuteness would melt through ArenaNet's resolve to remain stoic on the release date and you held firm! lol
