Anyone know more about how the general make up of these servers are going to be? Both have really cool names but I can't decide.

This is what I know about both Worlds right now. (=p, Nothing Really)

Jade Quarry
- High Population
- Might Dominate
- Ton Of Premade Guilds
- Really Cool Name



Isle Of Janthir
- WvW Competitive
- Oceanic Player Base
- Less Crowded
- Official Server Of Reddit
- Really Cool Name

Isle of Janthir is one of the Unofficial Oceanic servers. This means it will have a healthy amount of players from the Oceanic region, though the server will still be predominantly North American of course. Since Oceanics are "night watch" in WvW, looking after and capping things in NA offpeak, this usually makes them good WvW servers if you like to be winning. So, you could add these to your IoJ list:

- Oceanic playerbase
- Competitive WvW

This also might mean the Isle will be good for players that like playing at night and don't always like the lonely feeling =p.

Ya thats true, so you might want to avoid it. Those people can get a bit roudy. Right now they are hyped up to the max, but a week after, they will be pissed all over the game.

This might cause a Meme overflow which can detract from gameplay and immersion .

Reddit will obviously be a loud and obonxious community on Isle of Janthir, but also consider the Reddit population isn't that big. Plus, they've been nagging each other back and forth on what server to settle on, so half might end up here, and another half somewhere else like Darkhaven.

Jade Quarry looks like it will be a crowded realm, so as a warning there might be queue times for WvW. If you don't mind waiting 5-20 minutes (from what I've seen on BWE's) to get into WvW, then it's not a big deal.

I do like what Bael mentioned about Isle of Janthir having a good number of Oceanic players. They can serve as 'night watch' in WvW while the North Americans are sleeping or at work/school. That's a bonus to that server's success in WvW.

People keep saying this, but it was never full in any of the stress tests, only high status....  It does have a lot of guilds signed up on that site, but most of them are small in size, like 20-50 people.

If you care about this. Jade Quarry has a ton of RP guilds from Darkfall who are terribad.

i played on Jade Quarry for a couple of beta's/stress.... we didnt win WvWvW much at all... several times we didnt even own a single keep or supply camp.

They were "nagging" because they didn't want to be on the same server as 4chan, and didn't want to be on Darkhaven because everyone was going there because it sounds "cool". The fact that they were able to pull together and do this multiple times without people getting angry is testament to how solid their community is.

As for their behavior, have you been to GW2 reddit? It's a really solid community that is fun and friendly for the most part. That is ususally the case in the smaller subreddits on reddit.

As someone who has played on IoJ since BWE1, I can wholly recommend it.

We don't always win in WvW, but we do have a blast, and the community (both in and out of WvW) is as good as any other server. I saw some folks from Reddit, but they were not rowdy or obnoxious like others are hypothesizing.

Lots of old DAoC players / guilds were collecting there. Has that changed?  Heard they'd won a few WvW during one of the tests.



Also heard that Tarnished Coast was the "unofficial" RP server.


A lot of people that played on a specific server during testing may not do so at release. Our guild was on Henge of Denravi (from Beta 1) and we are moving to a different server, looking 1st for a different server name (folks in Beta 1 there were very friendly and mature, so it isn't a community issue) and 2nd, looking for more balance in WvW involvement (e.g. a little more.)

I played on Isle of Janthir since BWE1 with my guild The Guardians (if you know us & or want to join your welcome to apply)


We did very well in WvW & had a very good community.

Frankly good doesn't even begin to describe it, just about everytime I found I needed help killing a high level mob or needed a rez in WvW I got one from some random person or a guild mate.

I also ran into a decent number of Reddit people and they were very nice. I even had conversations with a few & we helped each other on a couple quests.

So I would say that IOJ should be a very good server to try out. If you don't like it the first week or so after launch you can always leave.
+ if you decide to leave within the first week or so you probably won't be charged anything as it should take several for the servers to settle down & arena.net to change it over to paid transfers.

I wouldn't worry about it. From what I've seen even most reddit users want to stay away from the reddit guild to avoid the poor community.

I reckon we've been pretty good in WvW so far. Except when Crystal Desert humiliated us during that BWE and even then towards the end we managed to rally pretty well once some of the guys initially leading us got back on. Just lack a bit of organization at times. Although now that has improved considerably.
