How will this work?

I see that if you login to the official GW2 page you can go to "my account" and download the client to have it ready for when the game starts at midnight.

However, if you've already downloaded the client to play during the BWE's and have patched it accordingly, can you skip this because you already have the game downloaded from when doing the beta? Or will you need to redownload the whole game again for some reason?

I'm assuming I won't need to and that all I'd really have to worry about is maybe a patch or two.

Yes, you can patch the beta client and that'll work just fine.

Is there an -image flag like in GW1 where I can force download all the content to avoid in-game downloading?

As for the difference between the beta client we all downloaded and the launch client you can now download off the site, I highly recommend downloading and installing the launch client. Unlike the beta client, it will install formally on your hard drive like any other game, adding start menu shortcuts and a desktop icon, et cetera. Feels much more "finished."

Does that mean you have to re-download all the game files over again? Nope, just copy over the .dat file from your beta folder into the new installation folder. Once you run the shortcut to the launch client, it will read your copied beta .dat file and patch it accordingly.
