I'm interested myself in Thief but can't try it out yet because I'm having only one day headstart. I like that profession because it's sneaky style which I'm in to.
I also made poll to seperate site because I didn't find out how to make poll to this forum. I would really appreciate if you could vote your profession because it would be so cool to see which professions people like to play as their first one!
You can find poll from here.

I think your point is very true because I was sure that Warrior will get many votes since almost in every forum where people is telling what profession they will play most of forum users say they are playing Warrior. And it's interesting that only one have voted for Warrior.

I think myself that Warrior or Guardian is most played. Not sure about least played though.

All but one of their stealth skills last only 3 seconds (4 if traited). You might have 3 of these if you build for it. Even then, they have either a huge opportunity cost through Initiative or are on relatively long cooldowns. Also, with the movement speed being so low, you can't sneak past anything while stealthed (you'll reappear before managing to get past). It's basically only useful for setting up a backstab or running away.
Without a shortbow, Thieves are also slower than many of the other professions, in large part due to their not having any real triggerable swiftness. (2s swiftness on dodge trait doesn't count IMO.)
Thieves are more acrobatic/teleport-y than anything else.

So I guess my pick is then Warrior.
Even though Hunter also seems very nice... but I'm not sure about him because I have never really liked multitasking with pets.

It's great, switching between the different attunements for dps, healing, cc etc!
I use a staff and drop aoe fire dps then if a warrior starts chasing me you can switch to earth, drop some cc, change to water, heal up, then drop the water cc, then back to fire hit him with some more damage, switch to electricity hit up speed boost then drop the electricity cc.
It's awesome.

Overall, I think I have more fun with the Guardian, but I'm dead afraid that later in the game the class might be forced to be the group healer / buffbot and I certainly don't want to do that.
Warrior will never be asked for such, but on the other hand it gets somewhat boring to play.

May I ask why you think that Warrior will get boring to play?

Yes, Guardians/Warriors/Thieves are everywhere in PVP. Figures because they are really OP right now and probably up for hard nerfs.

Now - I am still not 100% certain it is the right one for me. Sometimes I have silly mesmer (just seems interesting) and necromancer (just like the entire concept of condition galore - the complete thief opposite) dreams though...

Maybe I'm just too used to GW1 where a char could have hundreds of builds, but having played Warrior since BWE1 it got kind of boring as we don't have that many choices.
Once you used all the viable builds extensively it kind of gets repetitive.

And Guardian doesn't?

Plus my main in GW1 was a necro, this has a different feel but I still really like the class.

I was supposed to be a Warrior at launch, but fell in love with the Mesmer and surprised myself by enjoying Thief since last weekend.
