I have participated in the beta quite a lot and haven't had any problem whatsoever trying to run the game apart from some network problems on Arenanet's part.

However, since the game released, I cannot seem to play more than half an hour straight before the game freezes, and crashes.
This can be either the game crashing, but the music continueing, or the music starting to stutter.

I have already downloaded the 304.48 driver in the hopes performance would be better, but to no avail.

Is my computer not strong enough for the game?

Intel Core i7 CPU 870 @2.93GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bits
4GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 560

I'm aware 32 bits W7 cannot process 4GB of RAM, but as I had no problem playing GW2 in the beta, I think the problem is not to be found there.

Help would be appreciated! :D

Edit: Crashed again and this is what the crash log says:

Spoiler

I guess that means it IS memory related. Although I'd better switch over to 64 bit, I find it weird that the game crashes so frequently, while it never did in beta.. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Someone I know is having the same problem running a GTX460 and 32bit W7.  The game will run fine, then at a random time freeze with the music still going.  He can alt/ctrl/del to shutdown the program but its annoying.

I'm not sure, but I think when the game first loaded it didn't crash, but after selecting 'autodetect graphic settings' the lockup started.  I'll ask if he can change the settings manually to determine if one of them is causing the problem.

Let me know if you find a fix - its a pain to deal with in the middle of long game sessions or pvp.

Aye, I'm crashing too, though only twice now in about 5 hours of playing. Same error message, though.

So, what I've been trying is: closing all applications I do not need: steam, windows explorer and chrome. I've been able to play a little longer than usual but eventually, it just crashes anyway. No crash log now though.

If this is a memory problem than I would be glad to accept it if it weren't for the fact I have played this very game longer than 4 hours straight with no lag or crashes at all.

You could try lowering you graphics settings. I had an identical problem with Tribes: Ascend, and putting the graphics at the 2nd lowest settings (as oppsoed to max settings, which my PC had no problems running per se) solved the problem.

Alright, will try, but it's a real shame as my computer should be able to handle this game at max settings :P
Plus, and I'm falling into repeat here, I have always played this game on higher settings without problem.

I know. It's annoying that you have to lower your settings when your PC is fully capable of actually running it with great performance.

Got to thinking. Both times I've crashed happened the moment I stepped through the portal to a new area (Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields should it matter). Might have some relevance.

Hey guys. I signed up to post this.

I've been having this issue ALL damn day and It's such a shame cause the games great. I even made a thread on MMO champ about it :

http://www.mmo-champ...03#post18151303

There are some suggestions in there I recommend you guys taking a look at - but none of them have helped me so far. What DID help was downloading the Nvida Beta drivers (Not current) and now I get around 40 minutes of play before it crashes -- Unless! and here's the weird bit - If I stay in my starting area/villiage/zone I don't crash at all. I just got back from playing for three hours straight in the same zone no crashes - when I decided to fast travel to the Human city (Still learning names of places) It crashed instantly with the same ol' 'Out of Memory' Error.

Also, I can only play like that with Humans. I made a norn and ran around their starting zones for about 20 mins before It crashed.

Just thought I'd shed some light as I've been seaching ALL day for an answer.

So, there's really no one who has an idea if this is just a temporary performance issue which is going to be resolved later? Or is it really something I'll have to deal with myself? :D

Recalling my Crashes they both were AFTER getting into a new zone (PvP, WvWvW). Might be some kind of memory leak?

I also just joined this forum to share my input on this topic as well. First, it's a relief to know I'm not the only one having his issue. I spent five hours today accepting the fact I would face crashes every 15-20 minutes OR if I reached a loading screen to get to a new area with jittery sound and all. Then I panicked and wondered if it was just my computer, but everything else is running great and my drivers are up to date.

My computer is also supposed to run the graphics on max. I have a NVIDIA GeFORCE 550 TI and even handled SWTOR with ease. The betas were no problem at all, I spent the whole time without a single crash and on high graphics, but now... now it's nearly unplayable.

I put in a bug report (which we should all do) through the client, just to make them aware. I asked in Divinity's Reach (human) if anyone else was having crashing issues and only 1 out of 10 answered positive so for a while, I wasn't quite sure what to think.

I have tried reinstalling GW2, which didn't work. Computer restarts, and now I'm defragging my computer to see if that makes a difference. I'll let you all know the results; otherwise, I can only hope ANet gets on this issue as quickly as they're working on the trading market.

wow ... kind of glad I'm not the only one with exactely the same problem since no one I asked or even my guild members encountered the same problem, like you guys I either crash completely random in the wilderness with nothing going on but it also happend when my screen gets plastered with spells and mobs (mind the fact that it doesn't occure instantly when a lot of spells / animations are flying around or a lot of mobs are getting killed [or whatever], I was able to get the swamp boss in the human area to like 5% of his hp with constant 25~fps and then the freakin' game crashed on me ... god damn) or right after the launch especially often when I teleported or used gates.
Game either goes into sound loop and I have to manually close it through the task manager or I get those 2 gw2.exe errors

*--> Crash <--*
Assertion: m_buffer && m_type == DDI_TEXTURE_CUBE
File: ..\..\..\Engine\Gr\Dx9\Dx9Tex.cpp(1098)

and the same as OP

*--> Crash <--*
Out of Memory: arena=Environment, cat=Map, allocBytes=25530900, arenaBytes=59385408, fallbackBytes=2195436, align=0

plus another variation ... (kind of saved all of these for the support ticket)

*--> Crash <--*
Out of Memory: arena=Environment, cat=Prop Packfile, allocBytes=8686244, arenaBytes=125864152, fallbackBytes=18134576, align=0

I'm having the same problem.

Intel i7 3rd Gen
GTX 660M 2Gb
8Gb RAM

My game plays at a constant 60 fps on the beta drivers and it was going fine until late in the afternoon. It used to be when a lot of stuff was going on in my screen, but now it's just happening out in the middle of the forest. It's like there's a memory dump problem that just tells your computer to go screw itself. My computer isn't overheating (stays at 64C)... I'm at a loss here.

It's horrible, especially yesterday with all those login problems ... really annoying. I expected some setbacks since my PC aint that great but it should be good enough to play GW2 with medium settings ... but since it happens to you guys who have way better specs it must be something else

Update:

Game just crashed again and got a message from Windows saying that the driver "stopped"...
Not sure what that means exactly. But it's obviously a driver related problem, which wouldn't surprise me. Thankfully, it's been rumored that an official driver release will be out early this week for Nvidia cards. Here's to hoping for a better tomorrow! Err... I mean Monday or Tuesday.

Have you guys noticed that If you leave the GW2 launcher running, it gradually consumes more memory? I'm really leaning towards a memory leak issue here.

Just wanted to reply and state that I am having similar issues, and that despite the fact that I wish none of us were experiencing this, it is heartening to know that I'm not alone.. If anyone figures out any way to remedy this problem, please let us know!

3 crashes since yesterday so far - around 10 hours of playtime but got 2 crashes in 5 min few hours ago when I was crafting... its really weird since I have got 12GB ram and I'm using 64-bit win 7 ultimate. Everytime game crash, only small window with log appear and music is still playing... well same thing as OP

After exploring Lion's arch for about an hour and a half (it's hell trying to find some of the vista's :P) without any crash at all, I finished exploring and went back to Queensdale, instantly crashing the client with the same old error. How come switching areas takes such a huge amount of memory? My graphics are quite low now and nothing except explorer is running.

I'm having the exact same issue. I crashed to the desktop 15 times yesterday and I've spend almost as much time trying to fix it as I have playing the game.
The first 12 times it crashed it went staight to the desktop and the Guild Wars box appears and tells me I've just had a major crash, and to click here to send to them with the option to put additional information in it if I'd like to.
I updated my video drivers, scanned for virus/spyware, checked internal termp, rebooted countless times, did a memory test for faulty ram, checked and saw ram running about about 75% usage while playing, re-installed, and greatly reduced the video settings. Once the video settings were reduced it no longer crashes to desktop, now it just freezes but I can cntl+alt+del out of it.

Q6600 2.4
Vista 32-bit
3G ram
460 GTX 1G

definitely something wrong with the memory dumps ... no clue if its me or the game, I hope for the latter

I'm having the exact same issue. PC specs:

Windows 7 64-bit
i5 3570-K 3.4Ghz
16GB DDR3
GeForce 9800GT (I know, I need to upgrade :P)

During beta I could play the game just fine for hours on end with most settings maxed at 1920x1200. I was actually surprised at how smooth (~40fps) and how stable it was, even with my dinosaur video card. Fast forward to the headstart, I was able to play windowed with many other windows up (2 browsers each with around 10 tabs, itunes, IM windows, etc) for around 2 hours. After the first hour or so I closed out my other windows and fullscreened the game and it continued to run stable despite getting into some heated WvW battles.

Then last night I went to play again and for some reason I started getting weird video artifacts. I dropped the settings a bit and it seemed to stop them for a while, then they came back worse than before. Suddenly my whole screen went various shades of blue and green and then went dark. A message popped up stating that the video driver had crashed and recovered and then I was able to play again. A few minutes later the same thing happened, then my screen turned into a tiny checkered pattern and the game crashed with another video driver recovery notice.

I tried installing the latest beta drivers as suggested by Anet but the issue persisted and then I started getting the "memory at 00000000 could not be read" errors. Did anyone else get video artifacting before the game crashed? Or is my video card finally giving up the ghost on top of the apparent memory leak issues? If nothing else, I guess maybe it's an excuse to finally upgrade it.

I had a few crashes yesterday.  Same as what is being described by others here.  And yeah it was a bit annoying.  The most frustrating parts for me was when it happened during a DE.  Not only do I risk being left behind (no matter how quickly I can relog), but 100% of the time I'd relog into the overflow server, where the DE isn't even happening.

They should reserve your spot in a server for a couple of minutes after you logout/crash.  So if you can get back quick, you can catch up (or get in at all if you were in WvWvW, and there's a queue).
