During my last few beta plays, i focused my engineer on: elixirs, pistol and shield, and endurance. They removed one of the good traits i used (which i used, and it was in the minor trait lines that i used). In the beta i usually came up on top, now i'm in the middle and sometimes second place. I usually find engineer the best class to run away with! I can use elixir S and med kit to help me flee, but if i use elixir S while i'm stunned, i still will have that adversity. I have vs people who looked like they had no idea what they were doing and it was somewhat challenging for my engineer. Thief is a major problem, they go invisible and gank me for major damage. I barely have anything to combat them. If i do catch them off guard they can easily run away, come back and kill me because my elixirs are on cooldown. I think engineer needs a buff on healing or fix the traits. There is a lot of stuff that isn't valuable in the trait lines. I have to specifically spec in certain traits to barely pvp worthy.

For pve they are fun, but i play this game for pvp. Engineer is my favorite class, however, i will have to find another class to play with now...

I mean seriously look at ranger. I fought a ranger and he pulled out a greatsword did some good damage against me. His pet can attack me even while he is stunned. He can adjust his ranger for any battle condition. Although engineer is versatile, his versatility is very weak compared to other classes. Did areneanet play with engineer? I can't enjoy any kits because they are underwhelming.

Engineers have always had something of a conditions problem. But fundamentally maybe the problem stems from the fact you're basing your entire experience of the class on using guns/elixirs, which is kind've a gimmicky build from the outset. By it's very nature you are sacrificing flexibility in favour of damage buffs and one shot defences.

dps wise, the engi is really bad. Was never so low I thing. Testes full glass canon both engi/ranger/thief, man, with the ranger I can output 6k with rapid fire, and more than 2k with normal shoot at full range. Last fight with my ranger and 2k tougness, got hit for 5.6k from 1 heartseeker... Any melee output more dps than the toolkit, and i find the leap from ranger/thief melee weapons more usefull than the magnetic shield.
the only weapon that do decent dps are the grenades now, but even with fast cast it's still hard to aim, often the 3 grenades dont hit the same person. They are better at close range but here grenades are lacking utilities like knockback.

Playing engi since be1, but have hard time to find a build that I like. Dual pistol & cond seems weak now, kits, only grenades look interesting dps wise, but are hard to manage (long traveling time + dispersion). Still, it's a fun class for pve & Wvw if you like be a grenadier.
But for sPvp, rifle still look weak when you consider most skill are close ones and compared to a ranger longbow that hit hard, toolkit is weak for a melee weapon (miss the knockback), flamethrower could be great, but skill 2 really miss to be ground targeted (the cluster arrow of thief is really better; ground target & ability to explode it earlier), never really tested the elixir gun. Only grenades look fine now.

It's just my personnal feeling, after playing engi since beta. The engi feel really behing other, the only worse could be necro that get nerfed hard since be1. Not calling nerf to other classes, but just that engi get at same level than others with all the kits.

I dunno I played alot of engi since bwe2 and I think its one of the most powerfull classes in this game. It playes like a WoW frostmage if that says something. Low dps high spike with INSANE amount of cc and survivability tools. I usually play a 2 kit one elixir build and I constantly switch between my kits and main weapon. Dont use it like its a kit, use it as extra skills that you access with 2 keystrokes. You can literally perma cc people as engi if done right.

Engineer was actually the most buffed profession prior to game release. Our turret damage was nerfed though.

I use a elixir build in sPvP with a pistol shield. I don't do insane damage, however, I can point defend really well.

We also got a couple of quality of life changes:
  • Blunderbuss now tracks the target.  This means even if your camera is facing in the wrong direction, your character will turn to face the target.  Blunderbuss now hits extremely consistently at any range.
  • You are only locked out of your weapon skills during Elixir S.  This means you'll be able to heal/use utilities while under its effects.

Since the 3-day headstart I would say i've lost only 10-15% percent of most 1vs1 situations in almost every build ive tried out. (haven't really done any major turret builds as of yet). I find the amount of control available to me just so insanely godly, I may not have the highest damage output, but through control I can nearly always come out on top or escape to fight another day.

Ive always made sure that my builds have a hp pool of 20k+ (on occasion I would take an increase in toughness and sit at 18k), The pistol/shield is a extremely powerful point defence setup. I usually ran it with the Mine, Elixir S, Elixir R, FT, Elixir U, Goggles utilities (a combo of those-not all...). I would take a build with around 60% crit focussing on condition dmg. They way I would win a fight would be to use my utilities to always push back or knock down an opponent whenever they are using obvious High dmg moves (Hundred balde warriors lolz).

I also felt a power based rifle build was strong (my latest build) for roaming.

While I may not always be top on the charts post game (what does that even mean? that you spent the most time gangbanging the enemy for easy points? I have no idea why ppl go by it), I have a fairly high win/lose ratio of games. I'll steal the enemies chieftian and swavnir kills at game start, i'll de-cap nodes.

Since the headstart I have played most proffessions, but everytime I feel they lack in comparison to the engineer in terms of control and I have never felt anywhere as versatile and able in both 1v1 and group fights.

I've been running a static discharge rifle power build with some gadgets and its amazing burst, i only have long cooldown condition removal from healing turret but since i play with friends my weakness tends to get covered.

I've run pistol/shield as well and since they nerfed the condition duration in the last stress test it takes more skill in avoiding damage to prolong the fight and let your conditions do their work, but since we have perma swiftness and vigor in combat dodging is easy work and with 409 conditions are laughable if you target the right ones.

While there are a lot of classes that have really high burst nearly all of them are easily avoided or counterable, the only one which is proving really problematic is thief with the stealth burst combo but we normally just shout when they pop on us and someone will drop a cc on them. Its a team game afterall.

I think Engineer is still quite nice to play.

sadly condition engineers have a hard time getting even up to 8 stacks of bleeds while rangers use 1 spell and have 25 stacks applied

Stop focusing so much on damage. Especially for PvP, where it doesn't matter as much as control and survivability. Our damage is not the best, but we make up for it in versatility.
