Hi guys,

I'm a human elementalist and for me the obvious choice was tailoring.
But i'm having a bit of a hard time leveling it. :-)

It seems to me, that the amount of jute that is dropped in this game, isn't enough compared to other materials. I'm lvl 22 now, and i'm still spending my time running around in  the starting zones of different races because i need that jute for leveling my tailoring.

Tailoring is skill level 52 right now. And as you know, a minimum of skill level 75 is needed, to use the materials of the second zone, which is wool etc., as far as i remember.

To set things in contrast, in all that time i have used to farm and search the starter zones, i have managed to level jewelcrafting AND articificing to skill lvl 90+ with the ressources that i picked up while searching for jute! :-)

What i'm doing:

-I specifically go after quests/events with humanoids in it, to increase my chance to get jute. (Can't even count how many centaurs and thiefs i've killed at this point). :-)

-I'm salvaging every piece of armor i cant use, to get jute that way. I of course open all bags and containers dropped by mobs to look for jute scraps.

-The way i level tailoring, is by refining everything of course, and then discovering as much as possible to get the bonus xp from new discoveries. So im really trying to get the most xp out of every piece of jute. :-)


Anyone else having this problem with tailoring, or is it just me? And if so, can you give me some tips or point me to areas where a lot of jute drops?

TL:DR - Can't find enough jute for tailoring, even though i specifically search for humanoid mobs to kill at this point. Have excessive amounts of all other ressources. Are you experiencing the same?

Yep, it's a big hurdle in trying to learn Armorsmithing as well. I had some 100 jute from playing nearly nonstop for two days and having salvaged hundreds of times, but I gave it to my best friend for tailoring before swapping to Armorsmithing >.< The best way to get jute scraps imo is to open those little pouches from bandits etc, while salvaging any light armor they drop.

I've not really had an issue with tailoring. Though things will probably be easier when the trading post comes back up. You just sell the items you don't want & buy the stuff you do want.

If you have enough cash - go buy low level cloth items from NPCs in starting zones, then salvage.

I'm experincing the same thing. My friend noticed it, too. I haven't analyzed the reasons yet, but we both are getting way less Jute compared to the beta weekends.

I'm having this problem too (armorsmithing) - I have enough ore and fine materials, lacking in cloth.  I did 100% in Queensdale, so I though I'd be okay to outlevel the materials from there and move on... nope

I cant craft myself a set a level 20 master armor set because I have everything except jute. I am getting alot of jute now just farm queensdale between the centaur area and the bandit caves. The market not being up has put a kink in flow also.

But I think it's fine, obviously, if things aren't a bit rare, then they wouldn't hold much value at low levels.

I was coming here to post a thread about not enough Jute Scraps or if anyone found a good place to farm them. I've been chewing through them like crazy and wanted to make bags for my friends. 10 bolts is a lot for me to get per bag right now. Hope I find a good spot soon.

I've just been killing the bandits that spawn for the two events right outside Destinies Reach.

I bought cloth gloves for somewhere around 40-50 karma each.  Then I salvaged them getting 2-3 scraps per glove.  Every glove gave me scraps.

If you have money/karma you don't mind spending, buying low level cloth and using salvage kits on it is fast and easy.

just farmed bandits to get some jute to level up to 75... now I need more of the monster drop materials x_X

I haven't had a problem at all. To start, just make a human and kill the centaurs for awhile. They keep coming with very fast respawns so you can farm a decent amount of jute pretty fast. This has been by far the fastest method.

Once you're a bit higher then go to the Bandithaunt Caverns, where there is no shortage of bandits.

The Shaemoor Garrison seems like it would be a good place, but it really isn't. The centaur are way too spread out and the events that send a lot in are a lot more spaced out now. Though, if you can get in on an event then you can get a decent amount. Though, the human tutorial area is far better for that to be honest.

Also, make sure you salvage every piece of anything that looks cloth, and I don't mean just armor. I mean the random salvage items you get too.

I am on Sorrow's Furnace and this thread is funny.  I have 250 jute scraps.  A tailor was complaining about lack of jute and wanting to buy some.  I told him 30 silver for all 250 and he flipped out at me.  Offered me 2.5 silver for all of them.  Stingy tailor hobbitses!

The issue I have is the items dropping now salvage into wool scraps instead of jute most the time... probably have to level up one of my alts to get enough with the trading post borked.

If you are really hurting for Jute and you don't want to farm it up, you can buy the level 10 Apprentice hands for 56c.  You get 2-3 per salvage giving you a 'floor' of about 22 Silver per 100 Jute.  Not cheap really, but a method none the less.

Yeah, I've been struggling with this on my human ele, too. Stuck at Tailoring 52, and now I'm past Kessex Hills, so if I want any jute at all I have to go farm lowbie events or something. And even that barely nets me any - and I'm salvaging everything I find.

What I did to get past level 50 was basically to farm low level areas. But what I did was make a human alt and then just did the hearts and events involving bandits and that got me quite a lot of jute. Also what turned out to be a good leveling strategy after making my armor that I was actually going to wear, was to craft several head pieces each with a different insignia for the discover bonus. Each doesn't cost much jute and you can still get a little xp for making the components, and then after making it you can salvage it and get half your jute back. Then once I hit 50 making one complete set of armor using embroidered insignias in the discover got me up to 73, and then I only needed to make one extra head piece to hit level 75. I finally got ahead on my crafting. For me getting from 25 to 50 was agonizingly slow, but 50-75 went super quick. I did resort to buying low level armor with a lower level character to get some extra jute in the end though, but I did end up wasting a lot of jute making invisible bags before a friend suggested the headpiece strategy. But i can finally move onto wool which I've already started collecting from the higher level area drops, Here's hoping I can keep up with the new materials a little better and craft a little smarter. We'll see.

I'm just over lvl 100 Armorsmithing and never had a shortage of cloth.  My limiting factor was the random drops off mobs like the blood, claws, and totems, etc.

I salvage a lot, though.  Maybe that's where you're going wrong.  I got the majority of my cloth from salvaging.

Do u need to use expensive salvage kits or just basic ones?

I've also bought the low lvl karm gloves. Salvaged with the cheapest kit. Didn't cost me anything and it is an endless supply .

I've noticed that at lvl 22 you can only buy armour of lvl 20, nothing lower... so karma vendors will be the last solution.

Or maybe armorsmithing uses less cloth than tailoring.

Jute is really easy to get in Caledon Forest. Drop nightmare courtier on a warden, kill. Same area there is an event with waves of nightmare courtiers. Lots of jute, blood, etc. to farm.

Jute is, by far, the hardest basic resource to get:  the prices on the trading post reflect this as well.  And it makes sense, because it's a mob drop instead of something you can gather.  I can log on for a few minutes a day and chop down dozens of trees without a problem.  It also doesn't feel like grinding because I'm exploring the world and doing other things.  And, I always know those trees will be there.  With jute, you pretty much are stuck killing low level humanoid mobs, which may or may not drop anything (RNG strikes again!).  Unless you also happen to snag a few dynamic events, you're grinding:  and it feels like a grind.

The fact that every armor-making profession needs it doesn't help.  The tips in this thread are good ones, tho:
- farm the human starting area for a good long while (you can get loads of karma that way, too)
- farm the bandit-based events near the human capitol
- be sure to salvage all cloth-based items and cloth-looking salvage items

Then, when you're leveling tailor:
- be extremely conservative with your jute usage while tailoring; don't just make yourself every type of armor (like I did)
- apparently head pieces are a good, low-investment piece once you get high enough to make them
- I'll add that shoes are also not that bad since they require about as much leather as jute (and I'm swimming in leather)

Also, if you're completely against farming and have the cash to make it go quickly, you can just buy low-level cloth armor, use the Trading Post (when it's up), and buy cloth armor karma items and salvage them.

Finally, my last tip is to absolutely try to hold off on raising two different armor professions, even on alts.  The resources required are intense, and you'll probably be better off waiting until your main is a high enough level that you can solve your remaining problems with gold.

Same here, I am having problem gathering jute scrap.  I am lvl40 now still doing back to start zone just to collect more jute scraps...  I have plenty of other materials.
